View Full Version : Are there any known bugs in the scenery importer?

Particularly, I want to know if, using the version 13 download from my site, it is possible to make 100% working scrolling signs and 100% working billboards or not. If it is not, what is missing?

Yes there are some bugs. The billboard have setting the wrong texture name and you cannot change it because the textbox goes disabled. I have discovered it by using tweak importer. So the billboard is working by using enable on the texture name box to let me to refer on any bitmap file from Textures rather than 'UseAdTexture', because of the UV co-ords.

Scrolling text sign is working on your latest version.

Other things I would like to see on new importer version:
1. Allow entering of object name text in the scenery window itself
2. Enable using "icon numbers" (1,2,3 etc) instead of specifying height and width in the icon textures window
3. Include a viewer to view the object (with texture) before the ovl files are created
4. Include saving of effect points in the SID files itself
5. Add option to give theme prefix (this will be automatically included before the internal name of all the objects)
6. Add settings dialog where you can specify the path in which rct3 is installed (this should prevent the bug where the importer sometimes creates the files in C:\)
7. Sort ascending/decending on the OVL list (Scenery Manager) - cos in the game are sorted in ascending of A-Z.

Scrolling textures have quite funny UV co-ord as it is not the same like other normal co-ords. but it is fixable by rearrage the co-ord.

I am using version 13 and I noticed that if I select one cooler go back and cheek it says one cooler but if I select two colors and go back it says three colors and if I select 3 colors and go back it says no colors.

What values are required for the billboard for the texture name and texture style?
Also, what is special about the UV coordinates for scrolling signs? Is it something I could make the importer calculate for you?

Billboard required any texture style but best on SIOpaque. Like I have already said, Texture Name should use any bitmap you have import in the Textures List. Don't use the 'UseAdTexture' cos it is not the way how it is working because there will be no UV co-ord on billboard if without true textures. The bitmap wont take over because you have selected the texture flags to replace on it but need to have the UV co-ord.
So this version is not working because of the greyish disable boxes, only working for Extended's mod importer by Potter.

There is more scrolling text bug too. It is little like billboard bug. When you select scrolling sign on the texture flags, it will label 'SIOpaqueUnLit' automatic in the Texture name which it is wrong and it will not working in the game. It is suppose be in the Texture Style Name. Texture name is just like normal, use the any bitmap from Textures.

UV Co-ord bug in the scrolling text will coming up with reference pictures. (To explain clearly what I mean)

haven't tried it out yet.

It seems that scrolling text sign have no problem with UV co-ord but it got mirrored but I can revise it. Maybe my last test got something wrong. So no worries about that, only thing is SIOpaqueUnLit should be in Texture Style Name.

hmm since summer started and school is finally over i went back to making scenary, now i allready made the object and since vodhin posted the icon grid i just couldnt refuse trying it out....the item showed up with the icon in the game but...it crashed...i checked my thm folder and when i clicked on the item there was nothing inside the folder nothing i tried it with both the one from your site and the one potter posted same thing for both is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?

EDIT: now none of my objects will show up i wonder whats going on...all my saved thm files from my preview set, they wont even work anymore NOOOO!!!!! :'(

EDIT AGAIN: nvm i fixed it, i hate it when you mix the ovl files with something completely different....

I don't know if it's something you can fix in the importer or not Jonwil, but the scrolling sign will be upside down with the current importer. It's not hard to fix, just rotating the sign mesh, but maybe there's something you can change to keep from having to do that.

I made a working terrain block once. I was actual think of trying something after my neon light set lift hill expansion was done if I come arose any problems I will let you know.

There also is how the bottom of my object becomes my front.
