View Full Version : 2007 GT-500 would be sweet - GT-H too?

How many people here want the 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-500 included in the game? It would be really neat to race the 67 versus the 07 ... 40 years of tradition. And, even neater, it could be in the Shelby showroom since Shelby actually was behind the car.
http://www.stangsunleashed.com/plugins/p17_image_gallery/images/453.jpg
It wouldn't really take a lot of modification for the dev's to the Mustang GT to get it to look like the GT-500. It has some minor front fascia differences, different rocker panels, some differences in the rear end of the car, and a few minor interior differences. The big difference is under the hood where a 5.4L supercharged V8 cranks out 500 bhp.
Also, it would be pretty cool if they would include some Hertz Rental Agencies in the game. I know for a fact that there are Hertz Rental Agencies on Oahu because I I've applied to rent Mustang GT-Hs there. If they could include that - that would rock, actually. Then we could rent Shelby GT-H's :) Now, I understand this might be a pipe dream and it takes a lot of work to add anything to the game. However, it would be really neat.
That would be amazing. Those are made by Shelby also.
http://www.motortrend.com/auto_shows/coverage/new_york/112_06nyas_03z+2006_ford_mustang_shelby_gt350h+top_view.jpg
That car would have 325 hp and an automatic transmission. (Carrol Shelby did some minor mods to the 4.6L). It would require minor differences on the interior and exterior too. So if you want these cars, vote yes in th poll. I think it would make the game that much sweeter. It would be very cool to have these two higher powered Mustangs in the game because otherwise Mustangs would just be starter cars. It's clear that the GT-500 is not a starter car as it will run with Corvettes and Vipers. I also want to see some Camaros in the game -- but that was a poll for another post.
While I'm thinking about it, the ability to auction your ride online would be pretty cool also. What gave me that idea is the fact that the GT-H is actually being auctioned off to the public as a collector car. It would be really neat to see a few of them out on the street like that, just like in real life. Maybe these cars wouldn't even need to be released with the release of the game. I've heard that a limited number of cars would be released on a timeframe determined by the dev's. Maybe the GT-H could be one of those limited run cars.
Of course, this is just a dream post. But, it's okay to dream, right? That seems to be the entire premise of the game. Taking what was once a dream and converting it into a virtual reality.

They would be excellent cars in the game, but their will be a lot of Stangs in there already. With a game of only so many cars, there has to be variety.

Well, there are three Mustangs at the moment. I just find it a bit odd that they chose the GT over the GT-500 as the GT-500 has more pedigree than the GT. I like the GT, heck, my family owns one (not an 05). But, it seems like the GT-500 is more in line with the game in some respects.
I guess I'm not too worried. They can always add them to an expansion pack.
Id like to see it in TDU, but most likly will be DLC. Nice car though
And isnt the orignal GT-500 in the game already?

Yeah, the original 67 GT-500 is in the game. There's a new 07 with a 5.4L supercharged V8 making 500hp.

Wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. A simple yes or no would have been fine -- hence why I have a poll on the top. In case you didn't know it already, a lot of people like Mustangs and Shelbys so if you don't, that's too bad.

Shelby just slapped his name on the new GT500. It was really developed by SVT.
The GT-H just pays tribute to the old Hertz rental car. Unlike the '07 GT500, this one is actually built in Shelby's factory. They should be available to buy in 3-5 years.

That is not true. Shelby did not just slap his name on it. He had a lot of input on the car.

Shelby Approves
Ford is calling the car a unique collaboration between the legend Carroll Shelby and the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT). "I've worked with the SVT guys for several years now," says Shelby. "And I know they have the guts, the talent and the passion to deliver the best performance Mustangs ever."
Shelby, who built the legendary Shelby Mustangs and Shelby Cobras in the 1960s, served as a senior advisor to the "Dream Team" that was assembled inside the Ford Motor Company to develop and build the 2005 Ford GT supercar.
"Carroll Shelby is truly a living automotive legend, a Ford performance legend," says Phil Martens, Ford group vice president of Product Creation. "It's a dream come true to be able to put the Shelby name on a Mustang again."
It says right in that edmunds.com article that Shelby had a lot of collaboration. It's cool if you want to post information, but at least get your information right.

Shelby served as an advisor. He may have had major input, but the real credit does go to SVT. They are the ones who build the cars.
"The Ford Special Vehicle Team brought high performance back to Mustang in 1993. After 12 years, with nearly 80,000 high-performance Mustangs on the streets and total SVT vehicle production nearing 145,000, SVT is primed for growth with the GT500 serving as the foundation for other performance Mustang projects.
By bringing together Shelby and Ford SVT, the company’s commitment to performance becomes as powerful as at any time in its history – including the famed “Total Performance” days of the 1960s. From the Ford GT supercar, the GT500, to a rejuvenated Ford Racing Performance Parts program, performance and racing can drive innovation and add luster to Ford’s proud brand heritage.
“SVT will remain the leader in performance vehicle engineering,” says Thai-Tang. “It will continue to build new, innovative products using advanced processes that will not only provide great enjoyment to the dedicated driving enthusiast, but that also will provide great benefit to other Ford products and Ford Motor Company itself.”
The Ford Shelby GT500 will be built at the Ford-Mazda joint venture, AutoAlliance International, in Flat Rock, Mich."
Being Shelby advised the building of it, and being Ford's SVT team being the place where it's built, I would most definately say Shelby got his name on it for just advising it. That and the GT500 name is most likely a licensed name under him.

If you read there, they're not selling Shelby GT-H -- they are auctioning a few as exclusives.
The only car that is being SOLD is the Shelby GT (no H). It's the same car as the Shelby GT-H but it won't be offerd in the traditional black and gold. It's a similar car, but the body treatment is slightly different, and so are the colors offered.

You Can Take My Word On This ...Mr. Carroll Shelby had Some Imput On the New Shelby Mustangs But All Of That Input Was Considered "Cosmetic And Interior Opinion" We Had Been Developing An "SVT Mustang" Since Day One And The Shelby Name Was Added To That Car Shortly After The "Petunia" Project" ( The Modern Day Shelby Cobra Concept That Was Built By Ford and Roush Industry's For The Auto Show Circuit)

i totally agree with that shelby-man. i grew up a Ford fan, and my father has a 2005 Mustang v6. and he's done a nice job dressing it up.
List includes:
Hood pins (non functional)
hood scoop (non functional)
Classic Mustang Horse badge on the front quarter panel behind the front wheels
Classic MUSTANG lettering on the trunk
smoke'd center section between tail lights
chrome tail-light trim.
rear side window covers (he's looking for ones with holes to replace the ones he has now, as they are solid and creating a larger 'Blind-Spot')
i'll try to get a few pics, and show them.

It's clear that some people on the forum don't like the car, and that is their right. Cars of this nature have pretty passionate people supporting or refuting them. It likely isn't worth key strokes to try and persuade the "haters" that it's one of the best bang-for-buck ratio cars on the road. In any case, here's my take on Top Gear's analysis:
The car makes in excess of 500 hp. Top Gear probably got a car with a delaminating air filter. A bunch of the early prototypes that Ford sent to press events had them. Supercharged cars are really sensitive to delamination. It isn't some BS that ricers made up either. It's the truth.
Top Gear is such a bad source anyway - they are entertaining for sure, but they have a HUGE bias and love British cars above all else. You can't deny that. I like / love British cars too, but they aren't the best. We own two Jaguars so I have to love British cars - we also own a Mustang GT, but I don't think they're the best cars ever ..
Edmunds.com tested a Ford Shelby GT-500 that suffered from a delaminating air filter and after they changed it to the proper one, it made in excess of 500 horsepower. I know it sounds funny that an improper air filter can make you lose a ton of horsepower, but supercharged cars are extra sensitive because they rely on forcing more air into the engine.

I'd love to see the GT-500 in the game, and I'm not even a fan of Fords (or the new Mustangs for that matter). Even if it's just a matter of tuning the Mustang with Shelby rather than Ford (like you do to get a Saleen) I wish we could get them.

thats a great idea.
Options for the Mustang:
FORD (stage 1 - 3)
SALEEN (S281 3valve/supercharged/extreme)
SHELBY (GT-H/GT500/GT500KR)
or maybe throw in a Roush Stage 3 'Stang in there somewhere. :D

....The car makes in excess of 500 hp.
Well shame on Ford/Shelby for sending out sub-standard cars to the press when they knwo the cars will be minced and picked apart. Don't get me wrong but i don't hate Mustangs. Top Gear loved the Ford GT except for its reliability, so i don't think they are that biased. But they are the biggest and oldest car show in the UK (and i think even the world too) and the most respected also. Sure the TV show is manily for entertainment but alot of what they say on there ties in with the articles in the magazine too.

WakkaSSj3: Who is your favorite Roush-Fenway driver? I have to go with Matt Kenseth because he grew up less than 30 miles away from where I live. I've met him in person and he's a very humble, very down-to-earth guy. I think my second favorite at this point is probably Carl Edwards just because of his back-flip ..

They're called pre-production units for a reason. It's not uncommon for preproduction cars to have horrendous gap tolerances either. It's part of the territory. Ford was aware of the issue, but with delaminating air filters, you can't tell if they do it unless you actually test the car. A delminating air filter looks the same as one that doesn't. Here is an explanation that I found in an edmunds.com article a while back - he says it better than I could:
You see, the air filter we inspected the first time looked fine because the delamination problem isn't visible. SVT Engineering Manager Bill Woebkenberg later explained that the problem isn't obvious because it doesn't occur until there's significant flow through the filter, which causes its pleats to flutter. According to Woebkenberg, the affected filters create an unequal distribution of air through the engine's mass airflow meter. This causes the meter to tell the engine control computer that too much air is reaching the engine, which causes conservative fuel and spark delivery and reduces power.
It really isn't uncommon at all for manufacturers to switch suppliers right before production because the bean counters (Accountants) tell them that their project is over budget. Rumor has it that's exactly what happened here.
As for the Ford GT, reliability issues? Are you kidding me? What issues? I also find it funny that anybody would have fault with the reliability of the Ford GT anyway - I can gurantee you that the Viper, GT, and Corvette are in the shop MUCH less than any Ferrari, Lamborghini or Masterati. It goes back to how Ford won LeMans in 1967. Ferrari had an extremely small displacement, precise high-revving, high horsepower motor. Ford had a big lazy, HUGE V8 with tremendous torque output. It goes back to the tortoise and the hare. Ford easily won LeMans with its big, lazy, but reliable V8.
It's my understanding that Jeremy Clarkson owns a Ford GT and loved it - except he installed an aftermarket alarm system and then BLAMED FORD for its problems. How can Ford be at fault for an AFTERMARKET alarm system?
And Clarkson called the Ford GT an understeering pig with lots of power. Anything American can't handle well to him. He says the Corvette has a buggy suspension. He's biased against American cars, it's not a secret.
The only reason he liked the 60s Ford GTs is because they were essentially a European body and chassis. It was loosely based on Eric Broadley's Lola GT. Nobody discredits American horsepower, but to Clarkson, we can't build a car that handles or looks good.

I am a huge Ford fan driven them all my life, but more mustangs wouldn't make this game any greater, or do any greater thing for this game. Maybe if they bring in the new Camaro, and Challenger they could, but not just the mustang alone, make it more of a New car pack. Get meh?
