I've heard some good and some bad stuff about it. So its it really worth it?

No, it's cheaper, but also gives you worse gas milage. And most cars aren't designed ot run it... in that case it could mess your car up pretty bad. Definately not worth it in my opinion.

If your car is designed to run on gasoline and you run it on ethanol, you can do damage to your motor. A 10-15% blend of ethanol mixed with unleaded won't harm your engine. 85% ethanol is a different story. And, the person who posted about the fact that ethanol gives you worse mileage is telling the truth. It has a lower flashpoint, so that makes sense.

e85 will run on any car reguardless if it was made for it or not. Many people are proving it daily. The only thing it may burn out are the cats, but thats it. Thats only because when it burns, it burns hotter.

Its just the cars designed to run on it can switch the computer around to burn it better. They are called Flex cars.

But as for the worse gas mileage, hes right. On avg its consumes about 20% more. So if you see E85 it better be cheaper by 20%+ ;) Also you will have less power in your ride. To me its not worth it yet. With all the crazy people I need every little HP I can get

But note if you get a flex vehicle you dont lose that much MPG or HP ;) I guess thats a bonus for spending 30k for a vehicle. For me no car payment is worth the little bet more I have to spend in gass ;)

Most FFV vehicles aren't really that much more expensive than their regular gasoline counterparts. Ford made a lot of Taurus's with the 3L Vulcan as Flex Fuel Vehicles and they were within $1000 of the regular model according to this guy I go to church with who owns one.

becuase they suck lol

I guess GM does too then since they are pushing "Go Green, Go Yellow" ....

ethanol is much cleaner and easier on your engine than normal gasoline but its not as good in the performance side of things.

Ethanol does tend to act like a detergent, so it helps keep the fuel system clean. One other advantage is that your fuel lines will never freeze during the winter since alcohol absorbs water. (No more need for Stabil!) But, keep in mind, we're talking the 10-15% blend here - not E85. E85 requires modifications to your engine. If it didn't, then you wouldn't need fuel flex engines ...

As I said above, the flex engines just burn it better without much loss to your numbers. Because the computer can tell it has to ramp up the a/f ratio for one, among other things.

E85 is fine for cars, many people in the plain states use it. I have ran 2 tanks of e85 in my 95 explorer. It had a huge hit on performance and required my engine to idle a little higher, but no harm done and burned just fine. But only burn it with vehicals that can take reg gas anyways, not prem ;)

Cars use more E85 because it is denser than gasoline. Same reason that alcohol fuel dragsters use 4-8 gallons of fuel per 1/4 mile run, depending on class, where as gas dragsters use 1-2.
