Hi all :)
Just got my new user name and all that stuff.
Old one failed to work most of the time. I know not why.
Anyway...here's some questions for ya :)

What's this thing I see about "red server"?
Im here for MOO3 advice. Is red server for a different game?

Been playing MOO3 for about a week (offline)
Still feelin green behind me ears.

In the ship yard window, when I get a design confirmed
and press the auto build button......where's that ship going to
show up? I assume one of my planets (if able) will take that
ship into it's reserve forces? But Im never sure which planet
to check on.

Assuming I have a reasonably ballanced main budget, and a few
planets that are starting to develop......does it take a lot of turns
before a transport ship can be built? Say maybe Lancer Transport System
Ship? During practice it seemed that I had to check on a few of my planets
and make sure the millitary spending slider was not off.
I figure otherwize that planet cannot draw off the main budget
for it's local needs?

Thanks for reading my questions :)

Welcome / welcome back!

I've not heard of a "red server", what's that all about? Probably not MoO anyway;)

The autobuild button does not do what you think it does. When you come to design a ship you can pick the mission type (LR, SR, IF etc), whether it's a system ship, space ship or orbital and then the size. Once you've selected that if you click on the auto build button the game will create a ship design based on your choices. You can then make changes should you want (remove/add weapons, slow down system speed etc). You then give the ship a name and confirm the design.

On the turn you design the ship no ships will be automatically queued up for the planets to build. You can go through the planets individually and queue them up if you want or you can let the AI do it for you automatically from the next turn, whenever a planet has a free slot in it's queue (and assuming it has a big enough shipyard for the design) it may choose to build your new ship design. The AI will want to build ships that take between 2 and 4 turns to be built at that planet, if it takes too long the viceroy will decide to build troops (or a smaller ship) instead. If it only takes 1 turn the AI will look for a larger ship to build if one is available.

I'm afraid I'm not sure about your transport question. But I would seriously consider the wisdom of building system transport ships, and I'm not sure the Lancer hull is big enough to fit a troop pod on...

Troop ships should be smaller than colony ships (assuming one or two troop pods on the ship) so if your planets can build colony ships they should be able to spit out transports quite quickly.

does it take a lot of turns
before a transport ship can be built? Say maybe Lancer Transport System
Ship?

The game at start has a Troop ship already in it's build list. The starting ship designs are:
Colony (Lt. Cruiser Hull size Starship) biggest hull size at game start available.
Eagle Long Range (Frigate Starship) early attack vessel
Hawk Defender (Frigate System Ship) early System defense vessel (cannot leave system no Warp engines.)
Troop Transport (Frigate Starship) Carries 1 Corp of Ground Units (Infantry, etc.) has 1 Troop Pod at game start.
Scout (Cutter Starship) lightly armed Early Recon.

You can not build a Lancer System Transport.
1. Transport Pods do not fit on Lancer hull sizes.
2. Transports are Starships and work in both interstellar and interplanetary space ( you can remove the Warp drive for more hull space but...it doesn't really help you)

As for build time, que a troop ship up on your Home planet and see how long it takes. That of course is dependant upon how much AU you give the Military Build Que (MBQ) to use per turn.

Ther are some excellent Stickied threads here in Startegy/Gameplay Forums that address many aspects of the game. Check them out.

Hi Guys :)
Much thanks to both of you, for long and thoughtful posts :)
I am learning more by the hour. Going back and forth between
the game itself and various sources of information. I'll use your
posts as a guide and also check out some sticky's. What you say
sounds right. I did a lot of reading last night, and a lot of things
are beginning to fit together. Thanks for your help :)

yep, the only thing less useful than a System Troop Transport is a Troop Transport Orbital. ;)

and, welcome aboard, Doctor!

i disagree pedexing, i one built a colony orbital when really green thinking it would act as some sort of orbiting city.

MH did it work?!!

i don't see why it wouldn't! it just wouldn't be able to land anywhere!

i wonder if there would be any way to see the race of the colonists... that doesn't show up in the combat screen, does it?

i feel an experiment coming on!

:haha: Well, something needs to colonize those moons!

That's no moon. It's a space station...

as far as i remember it just kind of sat there. probably with a LOT of hair dressers and such like (lol HG2G reference) wondering if they were there yet.

hmmm. idea. ceate some colony orbitals. make the planet starve and raise taxes so you lose control of said planet. then try somehow to drop the orbitals onto it - possibly by autocolonisation or "send colony button" if you had no other colony ships....

vary pointless. but fun.

Perhaps you don't have to wait for the planet to starve. Eventually all the population will be killed by a virus spread by unhygenic telephone handsets...

Oh dear,...I seem to have started an experiment.
Grins happily :reading:

It's because they sent all their phone sanitizers off to die on some far-off planet.

Edit: Oops... I see the Wagz already referenced them... I'm always too late. :p
Ignore this post....
