'71 Challenger Convertible.

Whatever Challenger is in the game will probably be my most driven car. All the classics will make their way into my garage... I'll probably get one super car for serious high end racing. I'll probably get the Saleen S7 TT for that. I'll get at least one bike for kicks as well.

The hate all of a sudden...

Not all Japanese cars are bad. Whats your reasoning against them?

It has to do with Globalisation; basically every company now, as a result of Japanese efficiency, is forfeiting individuality and uniqueness in their products to achieve economics of scale, similar to the Japanese.

Basically, we're being forced to drive cars virtually identical to each other. For instance, a Chrysler Crossfire is just an old generation SLK with a different skin. Given that Chrysler is able to put some imagination into the exterior skin to try and differentiate it, the Japanese never really have got this skill down pat. We'll ignore the SLK interior still present in the Crossfire.

For instance, a Lexus GS430 looks extremely similar to the Toyota Camry.

Globalisation isn't always a positive thing and anybody here who attempted to argue it was, would be foolish. Basically, the Japanese who put little thought and imagination into their vehicles and dominating the market primarily due to their build quality and reliability, which has long been the justification people have made in buying those types of cars. The Japanese are very good at taking one car and repackaging it.

How bad is has it gotten? I was driving in traffic in a Mercedes SLK230 and every single car around me (8 of them) were either Toyotas, Hondas or Subarus. Each as forgettable as the other.

Toyota is now the largest car manufacturer in the world, which I see as a negative thing. With so many automotive mergers happening and the big three in deep trouble back at home, I don't believe it too far-fetched to imagine a future where there are only Japanese cars for sale to the consumer. Cars that, whilst reliable, look too similar to each other and lack a passion, depth and individuality you find in other cars.

Hence, my hatred for Japanese cars.

Whilst Toyota sell quite a few 'whitegoods on wheels' Down Under, Lexus has not achieved the market penetration it has in the USA. Mercedes dominates the local luxury market followed closely by BMW. Our locally built Ford Territory outsells the RX350, Kluger and Prado.

Now, why would I ever want to go a RX7 when I could easily grab a 190E Cosworth for the same amount, probably even cheaper? Plenty of fast options over Japanese cars that don't need constant engine rebuilds (rotaries). Actually, I'd probably go a C36 or C43 AMG, which would be more economical I reckon.

Only site I could find for performance statistics on the RX7 (1993-1995) indicate a 0-100km/h (0-60) time of 5.9 seconds.

The above is just my opinion of Japanese cars and the global automotive industry in general, it isn't anything more. You're welcome to argue my opinion, but you won't sway my opinion either way.

Globalisation killed the car industry.

Yeah, I mean the NSX-R with only 300Bhp must have obviously sucked hard ass to end up beating the Viper on the Nordschliefe.

Yeah so the lesser priced Corvette Z06 isnt better:rolleyes:

KoenigViper
08-04-2006, 10:15 AM
1) That's not the point. You said Japan couldn't build anything to beat the Chevrolet, Viper, and Ford GT. In the early 90's, the '92 NSX-R could whip a Corvette and a Viper's tail.

Of course, I see all fairness in comparing a brand new Corvette with an out-of-production vehicle, but if you still want to play that game.

Corvette C5 Z06
Ferrari 360 CS
Honda NSX-R
7'56 was their lap times.

Cars with at least 100Hp more.

The point was that Japan has made cars that can beat American domestics. Give the NSX-R a twisty track, and I'm sure the Z06 will have more than enough trouble trying to get away.

Cameron H
08-04-2006, 10:32 AM
I see your point, and I do have to admit, they do make SOME good STOCK cars, but I HATE it when people get honda accords, etc. and put them into little fart cannons. The only japanese cars are the only ones that are DIFFERENT, like the Honda S2000, the NSX, the um.....you get what I mean. The cars that arent all like the Honda Accord, and the Nissan Sentra. They are just turning into the same car, thats why in general I dont like japanese cars.

KoenigViper
08-04-2006, 10:49 AM
Now that I agree with. That is annoying. Here though, the kids get cars like brand new Jettas, GTIs, and then ruin that German engineering with fart cans. Why would you put a fart can on a Golf GTI!?

Cameron H

yer wat is up with ricing ze all mighty german automobilez. Wat i hate the most are the f**n fart cannons they put on accords. Soon they will be turning mercs, and bmws into big fat fart boxes. The only ricing part i only like is the custom wheels, that is all. we need to get back to the 'gone in sixty seconds' and the 'Gumballs'.

My biggest vice with the NSX is the interior is so small I hit my head on the ceiling. ;) But other than the NSX and the Skyline, Japanese car's just don't make the cut.... That and you have to rev them through the clouds just to get some decent torque numbers... I'd take an early 90's Porsche for 30k over either any day, even if it wasn't quite as fast.

How much did an NSX GT-R cost back in the day anyway?

Ugh - it's pathetic. In my day, we ran our 70's muscle cars with open headers if we wanted to make some noise. We spent our time competing over what cam we had, which carbs we were running, and the gear ratios in our trannies. Don't any of you kids still appreciate the pure simplicity and raw power of an old Chevy 350 engine? Everyone's running ricers these days or some other import. I remember when ground effects were the flames shooting out of open headers. Now GET OFF MY LAWN!!! LOL! ;)

Regardless, here's my list of cars I can't wait to drive in TDU, and will be gracing my garage(s) at the earlies opportunity:

1963 Corvette Stingray (as if there was any question) :D
'67 Camaro
'70 Firebird
Dodge Challenger

...and after watching the Top Gear episode, I'll admit I may need to add the Koenigsegg to the list (and maybe even the Aston Martin DB9) ;)

Now if only they'd add a Buell to the list of motorcycles, I'd be all set, since it's the closest thing I'll get to a Harley in this game. Otherwise, I'll have to settle for a Ducati. ;)

I'm not American. However, I like American cars irrespective of their build quality and their inability to survive Australian conditions. Point is, American cars have something Japanese cars will never have, individuality, passion and depth. If you prefer a Toyota Corolla over a Dodge Viper that's your perogative.

Ha you make me laugh...yes the germans did make the first, car but the americans mass produced first....no american cars dont have the worlds best quailty, and yes japanese cars do. I wasnt dissing the build quality of the japanese automobile...just the looks...and mostly performance...yes they did have the few good cars....NSX being one of them. Yes the germans do make great cars...but with so much technology....something is certain to go wrong...my uncle has a BMW....its gorgeous....but with all its technology...i cant trust it. i'd say, alot of american cars are looking good, for instance the mustang, the corvette, viper, alot of muscle cars....

but what you say about technology: i know (treu my dad) someone with a bmw x5 and it was only just out of the guaranty (don't know time or distance) and then it had alot of trouble....but thats bmw..

alot of mercedes and audi and even volkswagen cars are really reliable...
for instance the taxi mercedes(e class) drive like 500.000 km (litteraly) and is then sold to a private owner, and he/she drives alot with it after that, so that pretty much makes those cars really good.

and japanese cars: really reliable, but about it has no heart: what do you expect, in japan there is no room for a heart (imagine living in a little house, 2-3 small rooms, only one floor, they produce alot, cheap, and good, but the heart, thats nearly impossible, for the price and the reliability.

my personall favorite cars are:
-mercedes clk gtr roadster
-mercedes slr
-mercedes clk dtm amg

and yes, im a mercedes fan, as we have 2 (ones gone to some paint shop, 2 years ago,  still not back)
