View Full Version : Totally confused
The importer is messing up on me again, no idea why. Did the exact same process as before (when it worked like 2 days ago :|), and I've already redone the model and texture 2 times over. What's going wrong? I try to save the common.ovl and it crashes on me.

I've noticed you have to do things in a certain order. I can't recall exactly what that is right now, but THIS (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486388&highlight=custom+scenery+help) is what I follow.

Did you make sure you re-started the importer after you added the previous object? If find if I don't, it crashes.

I always do the icon refernce, text strings and create and add the object then. I found out if I don't save after this, it is likely to crash - so never add several objects at once. Hope this helps.

I do a whole group of objects at once, especially if they use the same textures.
I make the OVL files for the objects first, using the File > Save Scenery File option between each one so I can easily reload to make changes or if it crashes.
The crash is probably a texture problem: square image (128x128 eg) and 8 bit color depth (indexed or optimized pallet if that is available to you). I bet it's the texture (unless you just forgot to not leave blanks in the mesh options). Right click the texture file in it's file folder and choose properties and look over everything....
Oh! Here's one: No extra textures allowed: if the texture isn't assigned to a mesh, then that texture must be deleted before saving the OVL.

It's got recolourable pallete thingy on it. Indexed of course. The root mesh is left as is (not used) and and the texture is assigned. The .scn saves ok, just not the ovl.
I havn't done anything else before this in the importer.
Rctmaniac, it'd be nice if you read the first post :) :noob:

Do you get the 8pbb message? If so, try the following:
Open the texture in MS paint, save it under a new name (""2.bmp) will do, but make sure you save it as a 256 colours bmp.
I have a problem with some GIMP textures, that were indexed, correctly sized and saved as bmps. After doing the above though it worked fine - GIMP seems to save sime files simply in a 16 colour bmp format, which isn't accepted by the importer.
Nope no texture message (I know what you mean though) just a crash.

sorry :)
Well, I figured it out it was the model so this problem is now fix'd. Close this, if needed.

but what was wrong with the model? any clue here? it might help others...
I messed up a face really badly, by deleting an edge. I got it fixed (Somehow) without using undo (Not sure why o.O) but I think that it wasn't completely fixed. Still the error hidding in there somewhere.
