If you go to K D Busch Gardens is just an hour away, so you can hit two parks. Oh, moving to Amusement Parks and Industry...

As a stockholder in Cedar Fair, since CF just purchased the Paramount parks, I'm hoping you'll choose to go to Kings Dominion to help me make some money! :D

As someone who's been to both Kings Dominion and Hershey, I really like 'em both -- I don't think you could go wrong with either one. If you like wood coasters, I'd suggest Hershey. If you like steel, you're better off at Kings Dominion.

If you haven't been to either park, and have to choose only one, I think I'd do HersheyPark first. Which park is closer? I tend to agree that it's a fool's errand to try and do PKD and BGW on the same day, especially if you don't have annual passes. First off, your total single person park admissions will set you back something like $100. HersheyPark has not one, but three GCI coasters, counting Lightning Racer as two, as well as Stormrunner and a B&M inverted called Great Bear. PKD has some good coasters too, but in my mind, Hershey is better. I am speaking from experience, having done HP, SFA, PKD, and BGW all in one trip, along with Carowinds and SFoG.

Oh, I should mention that at the end of September, I'll be going to Disney World for a week and in the middle driving over to BGTampa for a day trip. However, they close at 6 PM that day and I'll easily make it back to WDW in time to catch Wishes inside the Magic Kingdom. I have also spent time inside Cedar Point and PKI on the same day, but I have annual passes to both. Also, on a trip in 2003, we actually spent time in SF Worlds of Adventure, Kennywood (drive by visit, long enough to ride Racer, Jack Rabbit, Thunderbolt, and Phantom's Revenge) and made it to Hershey in time to get into the park for their last hour for free. Again, if there isn't special pricing or you have annual passes to one or more park, that kind of thing gets real expensive.

You spent time at Cedar Point and Kings Island on the same day? isnt that close to a 7-8 hour drive between CP and PKI?

It's actually about a 3.5 - 4 hour drive to get to PKI from Cedar Point. A lead-foot could probably do it in about 3.

I'm not going to put down any parks, but Hershey beats KD in coasters, water rides, operations, and atmosphere. ...plus Storm Runner is better than Volcano, Hypersonic, and IJ:Turd coaster put together.

We were staying at The Breakers, so we were already on point. We opened the park, got a quick ride on Magnum, checked out and drove. We got to PKI around 4 or 5, well actually the hotel across the street, and PKI closed at 10.

Olmec, what criteria do you use to rate parks? I'm curious... most people I know would rate BGE several heads above PKD, including myself. I'm not trying to change your opinion, (after all, we all have one) but I would like to know why PKD rates higher than BGE in your view?

It's only 200 miles, or about the same as Miami to Orlando.

NOT Environment. BGW has been getting the award for best themed park for years. The Themeing is outstanding. Disney standards. And to my knoledge, and visits to PKD. PKD has no themeing really. Except for Volcano and Tomb Raider. :downcast:

PKD's theming is on the upswing.... Scooby Doo and the Haunted Mansion is excellently themed, as is the kid's area. Tomb Raider: Firefall is gorgeous as well. But I must agree, for environment and atmosphere, I'd rather be at BGW. (It's won most beautiful park award 16 years in a row now.)

The one thing I would point out is calling DarKastle just another 3D ride is calling Spiderman at IOA just another 3D ride. They're heads and shoulders above anything similar out there.

You're right, Olmec, about PKD having more rides... and if you don't care for theming, just the rides, PKD is going to be your choice. But don't discount the quality of the rides at BGW. All of their coasters are outstanding examples of their kind.

Again, nothing wrong with anyone's opinion. I know I hit both parks when I come up there every year. My preference is BGW, but that's just my preference.

Squid, if you're doing parks in the mid-Atlantic, you have no excuse to not do both PKD and BGW or even if you can work it out, all 4, HersheyPark, SFA, PKD, and BGW.

Squid2

I may pass on SFA on future vacations. I really was not impressed by that park. It made me realize what a wonderful gem SFoG is. But PKD and BGW are wonderful parks, and I'll always hit them if I can.

Next year's vacation is going to be special, so there's doubt that PKD will be on that trip. But it will be in future ones.
