Whenever an amusement park accident occurs, it makes global headlines, and a bunch of people start calling for legislation to make the rides safer.
Well, USA Today had an article that put things in a better perspective.
You can read the article here: Perspective, Please (http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/2006-07-31-vanderkam-edit_x.htm)
I found some of the 2002 statistics to be very interesting.
For example, did you know that, in 2002, 20 times more people died from hot tap water than died from amusement park rides? 176 times as many people died from drowning in a bathtub. Even venomous spiders claimed 5 times as many people as amusement park rides.
This article, and the statistics with it, help to confirm what I've said before about media blowing amusement park incidents out of proportion. I'm glad to see one newspaper finally acknowledging it.
