Atari Inc. and Obsidian Entertainment are pleased to announce a closed public beta test for Neverwinter Nights™ 2 for PC. Neverwinter Nights™ 2 is an extensive role-playing game that employs a rich single-player experience, a toolset for creating custom adventures, as well as a multiplayer component where adventurers can team up and explore the world of Faerun as a team! This sequel to the original award-winning Neverwinter Nights takes advantage of the new “3.5 edition” DUNGEONS & DRAGONS® rule set while also utilizing an astonishing new 3D graphics engine. Neverwinter Nights 2 is set in the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Forgotten Realms® universe created by Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS)

This beta test will comprise the multiplayer game mode only, the purpose of which is to get your feedback on game tuning and balance, hardware compatibility testing, and also general functionality testing. Please remember that if you are selected for this beta test you will be under a strict non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which means you cannot discuss the product outside of our dedicated private beta forum at www.ataricommunity.com.

At the present time, we are without our www.betatests.net site; therefore sign-ups will be handled a little differently for Neverwinter Nights 2. In order to sign up for the beta, please visit the below URL and be sure to fill out all of the required information.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to making a good game greater!

If I am not selected for beta-testing for both the toolset and the multiplayer game, I will surely wither away like the remains of a festering fleshwound!

Well I probably messed up my app when I read it the first time I thought it was asking how much time we could put toward the test so I put 1-20 and I proably put in more like 2,000 hours with the three games and the mod creation. good luck to whom ever gets to break it.

"more than" covers the 128MB folks. If you have 128MB (which is what's needed) and you entered less than 128MB you will be filtered out and not meet minimum specs. Ahem.

BetaTestAdmin

I take it this is in reference to Video RAM?

Because if it's system RAM 128 is not enough to run the game. :)

I'm just asking the moderator people if it's ok first. I can just use the unmasked variant of my main email if it's ok with them. Also could the page people add a note that "More than 128MB" also means "128MB"

Agamemnus
08-09-2006, 01:39 PM
Only BTA, really.

It might take a few weeks for them to start the betatests. Depending on the structure of the betatests, they may or may not be able to easily add in late comers and/or waiting list people.

BetaTestAdmin
08-09-2006, 02:53 PM
If you have 128MB on your Vid card, then just put Greater than 128 :)

Can't change the sign-up form now. It's a bit too late.

Orion3T
08-09-2006, 03:30 PM
Shortly after filling out my sign-up form I bought a new system directly aimed at NWN2 and its hefty requirements.

1. Do the specifications we fill in on the signup affect our chances of being selected (assuming we meet the required but are short of recommended of course)?

2. If yes above, is there any way to change my application or inform the appropriate person of my new system specs?

I have other valid email addresses to send extra apps, but don't want to send 2 applications unless it is ok with admin. Any advice/help much appreciated, thanks.

P.S. This is in relation to Toolset beta, not Multiplayer beta if it matters.

Thanks for that info Daehawk. I thought they had clocked AMDs well past the 3Ghz mark.

Oh well :)

And no, anything under that will NOT be thrown out.

Also, say hello to your "automated registration picking bot" (yes, I have to read through tens of thousands of "Why I should be selected" entries :) )

Currently the fastest amd processor I have seen is the fx-62 with a clock cycle of 2.8 ghz. Most of amd's processors are slower than intel's. However amd's processor out perform intel's pentium 4 and pentium D, but not the new conroes. Amd uses a slower clock cycle but they can do more within that clock cycle. Intel's processor do less but are faster.

Amd had to switch naming schemes because of business. Thats why you see amd athlon 64 3800+ instead of amd 64 2.0 ghz. They were losing business because most people buying PCs think of performance in terms of speed. Most people never question how much can be done within in a certain clock cycle. So speed can be rather deceptive sometimes.

By the way I am really looking forward to the release of nwn2. It will give me something to do in my apartment while at Auburn.

Um just so everyone knows. Their are CPU clocked above 3 ghz. In fact I know they have clocked some as 3.8 ghz.(intel) You also for get dual CPU motherboards like the one I am building. Which can easily clock around 6 ghz so don't be idiots and let the people who design video games and computers talk. Bye bye now. ;)

I believe we were talking about AMD processors :)

The_Seventh
08-29-2006, 09:19 PM
Yes. But thats over priced sh*t anyway. I got one in my laptop. While I admit for what it is and the ability to run a 64b windows I love it. But it runs to hot. Way to hot. While and intel runs cooler. Once AMD gets their chips to run cooler I might begin to consider them better chips.

Yes there are but that was not pertinent to the topic of discussion. I was talking about AMD processors not intel processors.

Maybe you should read my post before your make a reply to it.;)

Oh another thing having dual processors at this point is not going to do you a whole lot of good. Most applications will not take advantage of 2 processors unless the application is written to take advantage of multiple processors. Also to note older dual core processors from AMD and Intel are not virtualized. This means that the operating system sees multiple physical processors. (If a processor is virtualized you will see only 1 processor) However I am not sure about the new conroes or the new amd x2 with the AM2 socket. I think with the AM2 all AMD did was add a new memory controller.

Things are changing though, there are now more and more programs coming out that take advantage of dual core processors. Anyone considering having 2 single core processors will probably be better off with a dual core processor.

The_Seventh
08-31-2006, 01:08 AM
Um. I didn't mean dual cores. (dual core is really a joke because on lot of them you have less threads to run appilcations) I ment dual CPU. And my animation programs run them :). But back to the Topic of NWN. Any idea on when sign ups will close and they will start choosing testers?

Additionally, do we receive a mail when we have been added to the private forums? Anyone already have access to these?

I am sitting here awaiting my beta forum acceptance with great anticipation!

When I got the NWN2 beta invite I almost made water in my pants.

Then I did.

Now, I wait for betatestadmin to connect my account to the NWN2 MP beta forum.

Then I may make water again.

sadly my inbox remains empty - so i ask those of you selected - TEST THE HECK OUT IT! That way you can help the folks at Atari and Obsidian deliver a polished product to those of us waiting to get our hands on it...

All you testers out there.. keep a pen and paper handy, write down every thing you can when something seems not write, and try and make it happen again, the devs need to be able to reproduce the error to fix it, not some vague description of what you think happened but you missed cause you just scored a 200+ crit on a dragon.

No mail yet, despite being one of the first to register for beta. Well when 10,000 people apply your chances are slim.

I don't think registeration date has anything to do with it or familiarity with the game or beta testing for that matter. I mean, I registered it the day it was announced, have followed development of NWN and NWN2 both, basically live on NWN2 forums and I have beta testing experience from multiple games and I still didn't get into either of betas.

Note: I've no issues about not getting into beta. I pointed the above just to those people who might feel angry for not getting into the beta. Sure, I'd be happier if I had got in but then again, it's only a few months until the game is released and then I get to play a finished product. Oh and I suppose this way I won't suffer any spoilers which is a plus too - gotta find the bright side in everything. :)

Edit: Oops, and congratulations to all those who got in - forgot to write that, duh.

Thanks BTA! Got my mail today as well! Looking forward to joining the game with everyone! :jumpclap:

As for a character I usually like to play severeal styles (melee fighter/barb, ranged weaponsmaster, spell-user, rogue/assassin type). I like to see how the game changes for each one...

Also, I got a question I seem to have missed: for how long will the beta run? Given that the game is originally scheduled to release in late October, I'm guessing somewhere near 1 month... right?

nightcleaver

I'll be a bard, definitely. Maybe a bard/ranger... I'll have to check out the prestige classes, though. I hope I don't have to wait too long to get started! Maybe a weekend game or two

By the way - anyone know how long the beta test will be?

A_S

I think I'm going for a spellsword using Warlock...probably Warlock 6 / Rogue 4 / Fighter 4 / (some prestige class with 1/1 BAB progression) 6.

Hello all. Got the email yesterday and signed up. Also excited to be here as this is my first beta.

As for character choice, depending on how it's set up I was thinking of having a char for each class at least, and any combos I'd want to test. No sense doing things half hearted.

Hi everyone,

Glad to be by your side to beta test what should be a really great game.

I think my character will be taken from a caster class, as I've encountered an huge number of bugs in every single one spell of the first nwn.

I hope we will help a lot to adjust them as much as possible ... and that so we will be able to have a released game less buggued than the first one.

(English is not my natural language, so please excuse the lack of quality in my expression).

When this thing kicks off, will we be able to create play groups with a DM? IIRC, there will be no DM client with NWN2 at the beginiing, but I want to ask anyway.

If no DM, can we just create regular play groups? I used to be in a weekly game and I'd love to do it again with a beta test group. That group in NWN was together for over a year and it was one of the best D&D experiences I have ever had.

My PnP D&D campaign (I just got home) is going to end soon, so I am going play the beta test to take up the void when the group dissipates.

Hi Selene! **Waves**

I'll probably try out a sorcy first. Looking for spells and love in all the wrong places...

Then I'm most interested in trying out the classes that have new 3.5 functionality. There's bound to be bugs there.

I'm betting that Obsidian will be hosting several servers that we can join and try out. We'll be able to party up and play. You're probably not going to see the DM client until game day.

The biggest thing is to try stress testing. Getting big groups together and trying to break things. I love mob testing. Funny things happen. I got stuck as a troll once in Ultima Online's beta test. We had tons on people (30-40) all fighting together and then things started lagging and getting weird. Once the "poping" ended, I was a troll. Not sure how or why, but I was that way until I logged out and back in.

the posts of chosen still grow, and yet sadly my inbox still holds no news from betatest admin :(

Good luck to those of you who get to help make sure this game is great.

As for hosting you own content during the Beta - I would think that they (Atari) want it restricted to the OC, where they have control over the variables, they want *THE* game to work and not fixing some one elses bad scritping. I also highly doubt you could get anything worth playing built before the beta is over.

nightcleaver

The OC falls under single player content, unless there's a significantly different MP component to it.

aphrodite1
09-10-2006, 04:37 PM
the toolset beta is different from the multiplayer beta. A friend of mine is doing the toolset beta as we speak and has been for like 2 weeks. I think multiplayer is just that. We play on the server they tell us, and test that what is supposed to work, actually does work :)

Honest989

It's probably a stress test as well, to see how servers cope with the load.

So if I haven't recieved an e-mail by now, am I not going to? Or is there Still Hope?
Depends. If you signed in during the weekend I think there is still hope - Betatest Admin was away, and it was WEEKEND. But if it was last week or so, the chances are near to 0.

Not for the moment, the mail already warn us about some delay to get everyone on the specific board. So I think we don't need to feel anxious about that. We will heard soon enough screams of joy when the acesses will be granted :p.

Hi Guys,
I think we're all waiting desperately 4 that respond mail.
But as it is my experience, being a Admin is no leisure, so be patient :noob:

After waiting a month and a half for some new lenses for my dslr camera they'll be arriving on Wednesday, around the same time the beta will begin. Not enough free time for all my hobbies. I might have to call in sick at work ;)

Yay, my monk will recommence the smackdowns...soon hopefully :p

Does anyone know if this build will have all the classes/races in it? I realize this is a beta and all but was just wondering what exactly will be going on.

I'll go out on a limb and say...yes. A MP beta is generally a stress test for the servers as well as see how the game functions on a variety of systems and components. Most things that will be in the final will be in the MP beta as they need to test it all prior to launch. While a few MP betas result in major changes, usually, you're snooping for errors, checking the matchmaking code, and ensuring that the MP side is ready. The SP side was probably play tested in-house and they would have gotten most of the class/race code finalized at that time.

Hmm... I can't actually remember. It might have been the weekend, but it might have been earlier. I think it was earlier, though.
Well, I'll cross my fingers and hope.

I assume from the fact that he asks for your forum name he must flag the accounts this way. Otherwise he'd just flag our e-mails and not need our usernames at all.
