How do you stop this?
I awalys think at home that I can't wait to ride a coaster for the first time, then once i'm at the line waiting I have two sides saying its scary, then the other saying go on! IS there a way to stop this feeling? I also always get it when going down a steep hill! I hate it so much!
Well im going to Dorney PArk and I plan on going on my first looping coasters (I hated them) And I looked at pictures of the coaster there and it looks high, and
i'm afraid of hieghts too! ANd get butter fly feeling, and I don't know what to do!

Go with the side that says go on. Trust me, one ride and you'll wanna do it again. Although I do know only too well, it's easier said than done.

Like someone said on here before, a scary rollercoaster is a good rollercoaster, a painful one is a bad one.

But i didnt and it was the ride of my life and i went on it 3 more times before i left the park. by the way, the ride was Raptor at CP

Just be aware of one thing.... butterflies in your stomach is one thing, being physically ill is another. Don't mix the signals... if it's just fear, you'll be fine. If it's something else, don't ride.

i totally understand that butterfly feeling, including feeling it on the first drop. i used to get the same feelings years ago on my first couple of coastes. my advice is, definitely go on it, and I guranteed that u will go on that coaster again on the same day, and the second time you will enjoy it.

The butterflies are the best part! I rode S:ROS a few weeks ago, and the butterflies began walking up the stairs to the platform, when I knew there was no turning back. But, then riding it, its so worth it. Butterflies are good, they say- YOU ARE GONNA HAVE FUN. You don't get butterflies before bad looking coasters. You just get doubts. I heart the butterfly feeling, it hasn't let me down yet.

You'll have to remove your kidneys to stop that. Or at least your adrenal glands, which sit on top of your kidneys. That's why you feel the "butterflies" "in your stomach."

That "butterfly feeling" down the hill is called air time... Maybe you've heard of it. And I'm more outgoing, I run through the line and the reality of what I've done doesn't hit till I reach the top of the lift hill. But coasters are my life and I don't think there's anything scary about any rollercoaster.
Edit: If I was mean I'de call you a sissy... I probably would if I was waiting in line next to you. :p
my sister says to hold your breath and tighten your abdominal muscles when going down steep drops. But if your really scared of a ride but your freinds or family are basically forcing you to go on it, just close your eyes until you dont feel scared anymore. That butterfly feeling is caused by fear or the sense of "im not gonna make it through this". Ive had this feeling running from the cops, smuggling fireworks across the border, and, of course rollercoasters.

That's when ya should feel vervous for ya first upside downride but it's like the best feeling ever just ride it pull the restrain down without thinking then ya can't get off ;)
O and about heights :haha: i used to be frightend of heights just psuh ya self on it i did with a 43 story tand up no floor tilting freefall (Also at portaventura) ya don't even notice it on ride it's just a great thrill and helps ya get over ya fear of heights as well ;)

It doesn't actually look like you are upside down when you are on the ride, it's more like, the world spins around you, it's really cool.

That's not what he's talking about. He's saying that he feels acutely nervous when confronted with medium to large roller coasters.
Personally, before I ride a coaster, I also have a feeling of anxiety and I HATE IT! But the thing is, while I'm hating it, I find myself craving more at the same time. It's just so weird and confusing that I just ride it because I know that I'll be elated during and after the experience.
Good luck and have fun!

My first wooden coaster i rode is: Scooby-Doo Ghoster Coaster @ PCW and i have butterfly feeling's.
If i go on Top Thrill Dragster im probably DEAD cause i have a bad heart *condition* and im only 16 years old!

If you have a heart condition, you most assuredly should stay off of any thrill rides. Before trying any, please talk to your doctor about it first. There are way too many stories of people of all ages who had heart conditions, either known or unknown, who died after going on a ride, including some rather mild rides.

hey...know what? i used to be scared of ALL rollercoasters before California Screamin'. we went 3 times, and i didnt go on it. the 4th time we went, i went on, and i HAVE to go at least 5 times per DLCA trip :D that feeling you're talking about...where u get all nervous and you start shaking and your palms and forehead get all sweaty. but thats just little tiny men bouncing in your stomache saying " hurry up and get ur butt on the ride!"
also, dont be afraid to go on suspended coasters, they can be even more fun than regular rollercoasters! when we went to KBF this past summer, the first thing i went on was silver bullet. i think i went on like 6 0r 7 other times that day...

I was nervous and excited when I first rode Wicked Twister in 2002. I had followed WT's construction all winter and was really looking forward to riding it. But when I got to the queue, I was nervous about riding a new coaster type (for me). That all changed the second the train launched out of the station and now I love Impulse coasters for that initial launch.

Well, for me, I went on a 205' drop coaster and then after that I could ride anything. To be honest it took me a long time to go on something like that, but for 7 years now, I can go on anything and nothing scares me. The reason i can go on anything is because I never feel that funny feeling in your stomach, because I hated that feeling and I must of gotten use to it when I was riding something smaller. I do however I do feel it the first time when I ride a roller coaster but after that I don't feel anything.
That is how I did it.

I just got on them.
The first time I rode a roller coaster it was called, The Roller Coaster! It was at Riverview Park in Des Moines and was very old. Built in 1920 by John Miller the legendary coaster designer and it was something else to be sure, a real loss that it is gone.
http://webpages.charter.net/bwkooker/pic10.html
Oddly enough the last coaster I rode up to this point was also desinged by John Miller in the 20s.
http://rcdb.com/ig347.htm
That was about it for being really afraid of coasters. My second big coaster was the Tornado at Des Moine's Adventureland Park which at the time it opened was a top ten wooden coaster in the world. It is still a great out and back, very classic ride desinged by William Cobb who designed a few famous coasters in the late 70s.
My frist looping coaster was The Orient Express at Worlds of Fun, we rode it the year it opened and that was the only time I ever road it. I went on it three times with my dad. I was very affriad but did it anyhow.
After Orient Express I really haven't been affraid of riding anything but I get that same anxious "butterfly" feeling when I ride somethign for the first time. I actually enjoy the anticipation and uncertainty it is part of the thrill.
One thing that some of the folks that ride coasters with me notice on Steel Venom at ValleyFair is even when we know somethign is coming it can still suprise and thrill us. It's fun when somethign never gets old and you never Really get totally used to it.
hey Plokoon try the Sky Princess Roller Coaster at Dutch Wonderland it was my 1st rc and i loved it. if u want my last free pass pm me :)
