Shows promise. This set, and Walking Snake's shop innards will be a great help. You think you could do generic office ceiling? And are going to be doing the kitchen parts of the restaurants?

@niccum_123: They are separate pieces to the table-they are 4 pieces all together-I have done 2 and 1 as well-i would need the .ase from disfans1's and expo3000 tables to make them align properly-which I cant get inless I contact them. I will do another sign saying Please Seat Yourself as well :)
@Magnum: Thanks, I will do different styles of tablecloths :)

Brilliant job rctmaniac. A few questions though, do the peeps actually sit at the tables, eat and drink, their hunger and thirst meters go down and does the park make money from this?
And I'm looking forward to the "Kiddies MaNiA" pack, it will make a kiddies zone in a theme park much easier.

Well done, rctmaniac! I especially like your candle. It's a simple yet very clever idea; I'm sure it will be very effective for some more romantic settings. I have a question, though: have you tested your tables with peeps sitting on the benches? From the pictures it seems to me that the peeps would sit right through them, because the square one looks like it sits on top of the benches, whereas the round one is too thick for a peep's legs to be under it. I may be wrong, as I can only judge by the pictures you posted.

Hey, nice job with this set so far!
Many restaurants have placemats under the plates for ease of clean-up, maybe you could have some of those.
Also most ceilings fans have rounded blade edges, particularly in a commercial environment. I don't know how difficult that would be to do, but just an idea.
Most restaurant fans have some sort of light or lamp at their hub too. Again, just an idea thrown out there.

Rounded fans would be too difficult, I could prob do a light that is attached to the fan or just do a seperate light

There are actually no corner pieces in the bar, it seems fine to mix to half pieces together. To get round building issuses, there are 2 of each part, meaning it takes longer to build but gets a better result. The corners work fine as long as you dont use different colours for the 2 peaces making the corner (which is what I have done lol :p)

Hi Maniac,
It's good to see how you progress and the restaurant idea is brilliant. However, the buffet/for/knife table seems to have a lot of polygons - could you check the model statistic? If you can't delete faces, maybe you could unweld it - it would look smoother.
Keep up the great work!

Mmmm .... not bad, but very individual. I like the idea and I have always a lot of respect for people who get their ideas in the game. But I don't like the set currenty not so much. Please don't misunderstand me, that is just MY opinion.
What could you do better?
Think the candle should be orange and have a bigger radius, this set looks promising btw.
I agreed totally with this.
The tables are in my opinion too big. The benches are in some pictures under the table, so it will looks, that the top of the peeps stand on the table, when they sit down.
The round tables are also a little to high and the table covers have too much colours (but that's a question of taste, which will see everyone from his point of view).
The Self Service Counter should be more rounded and mybe you should use some textures with salads, vegetables, fish etc. and not just that coloured squares.
What I would like to see is a round table with a large white table cover (from the bottom to the edge of the table). Maybe with a little vase with flowers in the middle or with a big wedding cake.
You are on the best way to be a great CSO-Designer with a good potential. Search with google for pictures of good restaurants and take this pics as inspiration. Keep up your work and don't waste your talent.

^i hope it will get sorted soon
Thanks, me to :p
love it
Thanks
Did I understand correctly that you created two different models for 2 dishes and 4 dishes on the table? Wouldn't it work to have just one and put it on the table 4 times rotated one step (in game)?
Maybe, but it saves time rotating the objects. As RCToThe3 said, there is a 1, 2 and 4 set.
There is a 1 dish, 2 dish, and a 4 dish, I belive.
Correct

I saw somewhere where you complained that your scenery is at the bottom of the list. It is because it is lowercase, and all of the other sets are uppercase.

At last! After being delayed last week I have finally had some spare time to finish off my pack and zip and exe it for you to use!
It hasnt been helped that the forums have been down all day (for me any way) so I couldnt do it earlier.
So, here it is:
Direct Downloads:
Here are the download links:
restaurant.exe (http://jackfranklin2.cabspace.com/rctmaniac/restaurant.exe)
Run .exe file, it will do the rest.
restaurant.zip (http://jackfranklin2.cabspace.com/rctmaniac/restaurant.zip)
Save to Desktop, extract to: C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster TycoonŽ 3\Style\Themed
Any problems just post.
And just incase any one is wondering-I am taking a break from scenery for a while.

This set is just the thing I need for my unique...ish main street! Thanks a lot rctmaniac.
Are there any square tables with tablecloths? That's quite a necessity for me.
rctmaniac
08-26-2006, 08:19 AM
@NGS: No, just the wood table and normal square table. It is planned for an expansion to this set soon. :).

I just checked it out, really nice :)
A few things I'd like to nitpick about:
- I think the candle should be improved. A partice effect should be better. Also in my settings it disappeard due te LOD quite early, how much polys does it use?
- Consider fully uv-mapping the table cloths (I mean the sides)
rctmaniac

@Belgabor: Thanks :). The candle-A particle effect could be good-I have yet to fully try them, But I said earlier in this thread I will be expanding restaurant MaNiA :). The Table Cloths-I did try, but whatever I did I couldnt get it to work :(. If I did the side the top went funny so I had to compromise
Belgabor

How do you do the uv-mapping?
rctmaniac
08-26-2006, 06:09 PM
YAY my first ever thread to hit 4 pages :noob:
I just added the texture in MS and 99% of the time it maps the top correctly. If not I muck around with the Texture Editor in MS and I sort it out :noob: :) :p
Belgabor

The process you need is called unwrapping which flattens the 3D to a planar mesh you can then modify to map the image correctly. I don't know how it works in MS, but in Blender you can define seams where the unwarp algorithm is allowed to cut the 3D mesh to make the process more true to the original angles. If this is possible in MS you could try to mark all vertical edges on the rim of your table cloth model as seam and then unwarp it onto your texture.
If you want further hints, I could try to make a few screenshots in Blender to explain exactly what I mean.
rctmaniac
08-26-2006, 06:34 PM
hmm. I see what you mean-or I think I do. It is almost like creasing nets of cubes with scissors so it marks out where to fold the net up-or in this case the texture. I understand. Screens would be great if you would please :)

Here you go:
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/7919/uvmapob2.th.jpg (http://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=uvmapob2.jpg)
I created a cylinder, squished it and removed the bottom (I guess that's what you did for the covers)
In the left part you can see the marked seams in orange. Top right is the uv-mapping of the unwrapped mesh and lower right shows the rendered table cloth.
Also have a look at the genetica viewer from spiral graphics (link in the texture thread). Some of the textures probably look great as table cloths and they are seamless =)
Seamlessness has the advantage that you can overshoot the uv map without ill effect meaning more texture detail with the same texture size:

Age_of_Aquarius: This is how the folders should look:
C:\\Program Files\Atari\RCT3\Style\Themed\Rctmaniac's Restaurant MaNiA
And inside the restaurant folder there should be lots of folders and 2 .ovls.
