jags are decent cars, not the top of the line supercars but good, if you like the looks and whatnot why not get one. not really my kind of car but some people love the way the jags look.

My uncle owns a jaguar/exotic repair/rebuild shop and owns about 5 or 6 jags. One of which is a new XKR and the car is awesome. Jaguars have a reputation as being difficult to maintain though. Not sure about the newer cars or the XKR specifically, but jaguar can be a bit of a moody car to own. As for driving i had a blast, not as fast as you would expect out of a 80,000 dollar car but very smooth and you dont feel it when you drive it over 120.
If you really want to drive a Jaguar, go for the E-types. IMO they are the definition of classic sportscars along with a few others.

At least check out the Mercedes CLS500/CLS550, depending on if it is an '06 or an '07, or a BMW 650i.
I haven't ridden in a 650i, but the CLS is a superb car

I hope you mean this XKR, because the XKR based on the new design isn't even out yet to the public.

He was talking in the 70,000-80,000 range not 150,000-200,000 range...lol....but it is a nice car

Yeah, but I'd rather have an e39 Dinan S3 M5. Now, THAT is a street sleeper. Yet still good looking, and with the stock final drive (Dinan offers a slightly lower final drive to improve accel), it tops out at over 200MPH, faster than an F430!

Jaguars are very beautiful cars and I've always dreamt of having one. That dream came true two years ago when we purchased one.
My family owns a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 and it's a pleasure to drive. (Don't make the mistake of thinking I come from a rich family -- we just play the depreciation game on Ebay.) It handles very nicely (especially for a car that weighs 3,900 lbs), it has plenty of torque, and the inline 6 cylinder is very big and interesting sounding. The only thing it sucks in is in the snow. Don't even bother trying to drive one in the snow unless you have snow tires on it. It's absolutely horrendous up hills in the snow. No traction whatsoever. I had to shift it into 2nd gear on the J-gate just to make it up - very slowly.
Jaguars do have a reputation for being finnicky and annoying. Some of that seems to stem from jealousy amongst people who can't own them. Some of it is true. However, keep reading -- it might not be the problems you'd expect.
Honestly, when we bought the Jaguar, we didn't know what to expect. However, I can you that, of the few problems we've had with our car, all of them have been electrically related. It is no surprise. I've read on many messageboards about what junk Lucas wiring is. That's what our car has. I'm not going to lie. The center stack (with climate control, radio, and clock) has had some bizarre things happen with it. However, if you have heard of any mechanical problems with Jaguars, our car, at least, hasn't had them. The newer Jaguars are actually even more reliable than the vintage we bought. They switched to a different electrical supplier (Bosch perhaps, but I can't remember). And, before anybody bashes on Jaguar for being owned by Ford these days, the Jaguars that were pre-1989 (before Ford owned shares in them) were actually quite troublesome. They really were a mechanic's best friend. I know this because my guidance counselor from my old high school owned a 1986 XJ6 for a while and he sold it soon after because of the problems he ran into tuning it.
Jaguar did a lot of things old school for a very long time. Even after Ford bought them. (Ford has slowly but surely tightened its control on the company). One example, even on our car, is the manual tensioner on the belts. Almost ALL new cars have automatic tensioners on the belts. However, Jaguar believed the manual tensioner is "pure" and kept it. Of course, the new Jaguars don't have this -- but older Jaguars with motors built by Jaguar do. (Inline 6s were the norm until 1998 when Jaguar built its first V8.)
Mechanically, our XJ6 is one of the best cars we've ever owned. We haven't had any problems with the engine whatsoever. The only car we have that exceeds the Jaguar mechanically is the Ford Mustang GT we own. I'm not saying that just because I like Mustangs. I actually expected to have some problems with the Mustang. But the truth is, while the Mustang isn't as refined as the Jaguar, the parts are all built rock-solid for drag racing. The clutch is stiff, the ride is somewhat harsh over broken pavement -- but the parts all do their job without nary a complaint. My father uses the car as a commuter vehicle on the roughest road in south-eastern Wisconsin and it has yet to break any suspension parts. We can't give you the same story for the other cars he drove on Rawson avenue. In fact, his friends ES300 Lexus at work has broken quite a few stabilizer bars on that road even. Tally one score for the advantages of the "unrefined" live axle on the Mustang GT.

I am not an expert on BMW or their tuners, but as I understand it, the Dinan company tunes BMWs. I don't think there are really any "tuned" cars in the game from a start --- they're tuned later on by you. But, there are no BMWs in the game anyway, so I'm not sure how that matters.

Ah, I thought he meant in game too...for 70,000-80,000 new, you have to go for a 911. ;) Blows the XKR out of the water.
