After seeing that this car will be in the game, I am very curious if anyone has tried it in the demo, assuming it is available there. I have no Xbox360, so I can't check. What I am most interested in is if Atari has managed to appropriately capture the sound of this car. Everyone has their opinion I'm sure, but in mine, the Mercedes McLaren SLR has one of the sweetest engine sounds I've heard, and I have yet to ever see a game capture it correctly. Particularly after trying this car in GT4, and cringing at the sound of a shaken can of bees, I'm a bit nervous.
I've already read it somewhere on this forum that the sound team does dyno runs on all the cars to capture the engine sound, and that the car manufacturers themselves sign off on whether or not they accept the result, but I just want to know if anyone can confirm it. Thank you.

You could try asking in the UK forums. Quaid66, the_gaming_guy, or lwsbrck would know. It's not on the Xbox 360 demo, but I think I've heard that the engine sound was off. There's also a video with the SLR. I'm not sure which one. Can anyone help me out here?

It sounded awful in the videos, like a V6 instead the supercharged V8 it is. Supposedly, it's all fixed.

It's not in the demo either.

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to hear it is supposedly fixed, whatever the problem was. I guess I'll just wait it out and see come October

That would be a Ford GT, not a GT40.

(delete last post, and refraise) the slr is the most beautifull sound in the world (5000-6000rmp)

I completely agree/hope with everything you've mentioned. I think its the best sounding car in the world. The new 722 version is even sweeter!

the sound of the mclaren slr is one of the best but i reckon the aston martin amv8 has the best engine sound but is a bit slow.

Luckily, we can test drive the car first.. otherwise, we wouldn't find out about the assy sound until after we bought it. Gran Turismo, I'm looking at YOU...

We can? That's awesome....so even if you don't have the money to buy an enzo you can at least test drive it. Or am I wrong? Wanderer22, can you post a link to where it says that you can test drive a ride before you buy it?

Thanks

Pretty sure it's been common knowledge for quite a while now. I don't remember where I first heard it, one of the previews on some website, they mentioned going to a dealer and test driving a car that they had no chance of affording at the time.

Hence the name of the game itself.. "Test Drive". I think it would be odd to not have this feature.

EDIT: Found a mention of it on IGN:

Visit the most sophisticated car and bike dealers and chose to purchase new vehicles or simply take them for a spin.

I was just going to say that after I laughed. Well the game is called Test Drive, so yes you can. It's been shown in the Xbox 360 demo that you can test drive the car, even though that feature was disabled for the demo. I know you don't have an Xbox 360 though, so you wouldn't be able to see for yourself.

I will have an xbox 360 as soon as the lady i'm buying it from in florida send me it. Which is taking forever because she doesn't have paypal and I had to send her a money order and wait for that to get to her...which will probably be today....and then wait for her to ship it.

But yes I know it was called test drive but it didn't hit me until now about how stupid that sounded....lol

Haha no problem. I'm glad you're getting an Xbox 360 instead of your PS2.

To go back and answer the original question... no, they didn't get the sound of the car right. I, too, was disappointed.

The only game I've played that's come close was PGR3. At least that one had a touch of the car's rumble.. all other games make it sound like an electric razor.
