i would say not. and actually chrysler is a part of mercades. but mopar i believe covers the 3 that were a part of chrystler before the buyout. chryystler, dodge, plymouth. but that is my guess.

This is the way I've heard it: Originally Mopar was only a division of Chrysler, (short for MOtor PARts), but since Chrysler was producing it's own automobiles as well as being the parent corporation of Dodge, Plymouth, and later Jeep, Mopar became a way to reference any of the cars in all companies under the parent company.

And Mercedesfreak, SRT is actually the high-performance tuning division within all the DaimlerChrysler companies.

I'm pretty sure that Mercedes owns more stake in Chrysler than Chrysler owns in Mercedes. Could be wrong .. but I alwys understood it as like 51% Daimler and 49% Chrysler. Might be wrong though. Maybe somebody else can fill us in.

this whole merger started when Roger Penske sold Detroit Diesel (how many years ago i dont recall) and Cummings Diesel became the majority share holder of Detroit Diesel. (Cummings Diesel Is owned In Part By Chrysler hense the cummings diesel in the ram trucks.) if that sounded counfusing it gets worse ..... damiler benz was and still is the largest producer of heavy semi type trucks in europe and with a re-design of a chassie and increasing fuel concerns in europe damiler benz decided that it would be much cheaper and easier to purschase a engine that already conformed to the new fuel regulations - cummings/detroit diesel became the provider of the engine for the damiler benz truck ... that started the relationship .... about that same time a gentleman by the name of Jack Kerkorian was attempting a hostile buyout of chrysler and us stock holders were not happy about that at all. The idea came about of a "merger" when both companies seemed to need eachother ... chrysler was in a shareholder struggle and damiler wanted to increase north american marketshare in both the domestic and heavy truck markets. Chrysler at that time was also attempting to go head to head with ford of europe and was attempting to get the caravan minivan to european markets.

on paper and by the staffing on the board of directors damiler (aka mercedes) is the majorty shareholder of chrysler. in reality its a merger taking the best both has to offer. some of the examples of that merger are ......the crossfire is built off the mercedes slk platform. cummings diesel provides diesel power to mercedes heavy trucks. the 300c mag charger are all based off a 2003 shortened mercedes s-class chassie .... (i do belive its a 2003 ..correct me if im wrong) the new R- class benz people mover is built off a modifed durango frame.

And in my eyes the biggest improvement is the addition of SRT. SRT was molded to be to chrysler's version of mercedes in house performance division AMG.... so much so that one of the founders of AMG is now running SRT ( worthless info about AMG to follow...... AMG was at one time an independent mercedes tuner that was bought by mercedes at the suggestion of Roger Penske Who was the Owner Of Ilmore engines (Ilmore used to build race engines for mercedes back in the mid 90's for both CART AND F1

hope this answers the question or at least sheds some light .... and if your wondering what my sources are for information like this .... lets just say i work in the industry here in detroit and germany ...... granted no longer for the above mentioned companies
