http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/1429/hiyaft2.th.pnganyway here is my first custom scenery Im a Complete Newbie to Custom Scenery for Rct3 So i thought I should start somewhere.
I have just downloaded the trial of milkshape which I am Going to use to create my scenery so far I am Gonna make something simple it is going to be a Golden nuggets cereal box
http://www.cerealpartners.co.uk/images/pic.p_goldennuggets1.gif
Anyway Im gonna need some help how do I put pictures onto the Box I have Made In Milkshape.

Ok, first click on the "Group" tab
The select the group (you always need to select tha group that you want to assign a texture to)
Click on the "Material" tab
Click on "New"
Click on the upper left "None" button
Now load your texture (it should be a square sized pic (2x2/ 64x64/128x128/ 265x256 or 512x512) > the more detail is shown on the pic, the higher the resoultion should be for a good result
The pic needs to be indexed as well > In GIMP simply click on Image>Mode>Indexed
Now click "assign"
If the textures aren't properly placed on sides, click onto "Window" (top bar)> Texture Coordinate Editor
Here you can rotate the texture or rescale and edit the model > bear in mind, if you edit the model in the editor, it's not gonna look different in MS, it just simply used to change the texture
P.S: As this is a box, make sure you "unweld" the vertexes (you need to select the model, then click Vertex>Unweld) otherwise the texture will look funny in RCT3 ;)

Wow, off all the things in the world you could have made... you make a cereal box :haha:
Can't wait to see what else you'll be able to do though

They look like they're 176252 times bigger than they should be, And they're not aligned either. If you send me the files I'll resize and align them for ya....

He needs to learn =)
See my facts&figures thread for info on sizing and position. Well, the position info is somewhat outdated if you use my updated importer and the 'fix orientation' option.

isn't there any easy way to do this :(?

I'd say 176253. :haha:
Looking good though, just as long as you get them imported into RCT3.

I have no clue what's going on... check the texture editor if the textures are aligned ok, not stretched, etc..

The pic you posted looks like the uv-mapping is wrong. Unfortunately I have no idea how uv-mapping works in MS. Maybe you can find help in the MS tutorials linked in the facts & figures thread.

Learn proper uv-mapping, then you'll be able to fix that :p
PS: Double posting is against the forum rules.

I don't work in Milkshape so I can't give direct pointers. I know marnetmar has helped people with this. Maybe start browsing the MS tutorials that are linked in my facts & figures thread.

If the writing is upside down, you can simply rotate the texture (you are actually rotating the model, but only the texture is changed) in the texture editor ;)

Here is a toot that I have been using for texturing in MS. It was written with creating custom scenery for UR but the author(white Flash) uses MS to create his scenery and map his textures.
The texturing lesson starts on chapter 6 however I strongly recommend using it from the beginning unless you just plan to make boxes all the time.

I originally found it on MTTM but can't seem to find the link so I am temporarily putting it on my site.

I've noticed that MS can do some strange things with textures, but after looking at the options in the Texture Coordinate Editor, I realised a few things:
Move your object so it is NOT on the origin line but sits inside the MS coordinates: all coordinate values should show as positive numbers (the object should be within the X,Y,Z lines. Once there, use the remap feature and you should not have any backwards text type errors later on.
Choose the correct side and then click remap. If you have a narrow box and the editor is set to the Top side, then the texture will wrap around based on the dimensions of the top and could end up all screwey.
From the main MS menu, choose the Select Face tool, then open the coordinate editor and you can remap each face or a group of faces individually. Very useful for using the same texture on all sides and not getting distortions if the object's sides are not the same size.
Welded vertices can be tricky: edge vertices that are welded share the same coordinates as the adjoining side, so moving one edge vertex on one face will affect the texture on the adjoining edge. Unweld vertices if you need to have sides with different mapping. Most textures used in 3D modeling have been pre-distorted so then added to a welded model the texture wraps around properly. A bit of artistic talent is needed to make these.
And you can allways find a load of tutorials for MS here: http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/ms3d/tutorials.html -probably the best page to bookmark!

I appreciate more and more that I started modelling in Blender :p
A side note on texture mapping: In my experience it usually takes longer to properly uv-map an object than to create the 3D model.

With only my limited experience.. I humbly agree.

That's a good idea to start with a box ... and why shouldn't we have a cereal box in our parks (as i saw how many promotion-teams running through the german parks and give you little presents, so why no promotions for cereals???).
If you have the box ready, it would be nice, if you could sent me the box or release it here for the public. A friend of mine is working for nestle and I wanna see his face, when I show him a park with a nestle-box.
Just a question about your avatar. Is it a picture of yourself, looks like a movie-star to me, but i don't know who.
