Does opening the NAT for the 360 jeopardize a network's security?

I don't believe it can be but im not positive. Depends are you running top secret government files or something that people are trying to hack constantly? For the average user I wouldn't think it would be harmfull but im no expert.

NAT really does nothing for security. NAT only allows multiple ip's to be changed to a single IP. Or multiple internal IP's converted to changed External IP's. Any tracert on these IP's reveal the true IP anyways. Anyone with basic network experience can get in no matter what. Just get a decent firewall/router security and you wont even have to worry about any kind of internet hazards. I have no firewall on my computer/router at home. Theres no reason to nowadays since so many people use the internet nowadays. Hacking was only scary back when there was like 5000 people nationwide on the internet at once.

Firebird guy, I think maybe your DAD voted YES :) hahahaha SERIOUSLY DUDE, I am an IT guy working for a major oil/gas company, what the user above me said is correct, NAT stands for Network Address Translation and its a feature on routers because all what routers do is act as a gateway to the internet, they let certain traffic in and out, but NAT has nothing to do with security. Read my thread it explains in details what you need to do to get your NAT settings to open up on your XBOX, you will never enjoy playing live, or even play live at all, until your NAT is OPEN. I was unable to even log on to the Test Drive servers, and the minute I changed my Upnp settings on my router it opened up, NAT shows OPEN (not Moderate or Strict) and within seconds I was able to log on to the TDU servers and play without any incidents.
FIREBIRD's DAD!!! SERIOUSLY LET YOUR SON PLAY AND LOOSEN YOUR GRIP ON THAT ROUTER!!!! If you are worried so much about someone hacking in to your network and looking at confidential documents then put those files on an external drive or better yet, use a dedicated PC to be an OFFLINE MACHINE!
firebird guy, I hope this helps.....this Forum is full of COMPUTER and GAMING Folks AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE ARE TALKING About! So trust us, nothing will happen...no one is gonna hack into your network...if they wanted to get something BELIEVE ME there are WAYS to do it....and NAT has nothing much to do with security!

I am currently having major diconnections when playing TDU and only TDU all other games work perfectly fine on Live.
Are there any port settings that we could make for those of us not able to change the NAT settings on the router?
