View Full Version : WARNING! - GAME FREEZE CAN = TOTAL LOSS!

I posted this in general but thought the devs might actually see it if I put it here as well.

Note to devs: I had no cars being sold or traded or anything. I was at our club and driving out of the entrance and back onto the street when my game froze. Two other friends who were with me also had their games freeze. One of them also encountered the same thing as listed below.

Needless to say we are VERY upset!

------------------------

My game froze earlier and when I restarted I got the CORRUPT SAVE FILE warning on reload.

It wouldn't load the file from the HDD. All I could do is delete the file and start a NEW GAME!

I had created a copy of my game save on my MC before the crash and moved the back up save files from my MC over to the HDD, but those won't load either.

Basically, everyone is playing with a ticking time bomb!

If your game crashes, and your save file becomes corrupted... YOU ARE SCREWED!

A MC backup will not save you from losing all of your hard work and effort!

I can't believe that something this fatal could have been missed in testing!

In all my years of gaming, I have never lost my entire saved game due to a crash of a game console! To add insult to injury, I had taken the precaution of making a backup for just such an emergency, yet it too will not open!

35% completed - 3 houses - 17 cars - 860k -- ALL GONE!

I decided to give it another chance and started a new game, but I have to say that the luster has worn off this game considerably after what happened.

Like you, I just don't have the motivation to try and complete everything in the game anymore. I figure that chances are good this game is going to screw up again and I will loose everything for a second time. Unless the devs make a serious effort to deal with this problem, the game is a ticking bomb for everyone playing the current build.

My plan this time around is to just buy the few cars I liked the most out of my 17 previous purchases and leave it at that.

From now on, I am going to focus on the XBL side and forget about the single player. Not worth the work as long as the risk of losing everything remains unpatched.

This also happened to me. I was about 20% through though. I started over. If it happens again then this game goes to eBay and I probably won't purchase another Atari game for a while.

im with u there man but the stupid thing is tht places like eb will only give u a resale price of ONLY $17 for a game u paid 40 for so like it is just better to like keep it since it bein a rip off

Yea, it is a shame this game is so buggy. I love the game itself. I have not had this much fun with a racing game in a long time. (speed devils online was the last time a racing game made me play more than 20 hours) I can deal with the issues they currently claim to be working on, but I can't deal with getting a corrupt save file due to the game freezing. Maybe they should have 2 save files and save to every other one each time the game saves... this way only one will be corrupt and you will have a pretty recent one if it is.

This isn't the only game that does this. Oblivon even does it... I think its a xbox issue not so much a TDU issue, It is just there are some bugs that casue it to freeze but any game freezing can cause loss of data.

TDU is different than Oblivion and any other game I have for the system.

I have moved a save from my MC over to the HDD many, many times for my other games, including Oblivion and they fire right up without a problem.

TDU will ONLY read a file that was originally created by the game itself. If you copy the save file to an MC, delete the original on the HDD and move the copy back onto the HDD, the file will not open and the game will tell you that it is corrupted.

That is what I surmised after trying everything I could think of to save my 35 hours of progress.

This problem is unlike anything I have ever encountered with any other 360 game I own.

ah ok I see what your saying. I was just saying that a freeze can delete your game data in any game I wasn't refering to the MC thing. I wonder if it has something to do with online play and thats the reason you can't use old save files? I was going to get a mc but I see no point now.

It could very well be related to the way the data is saved and having to account for the online activity too?

I have no idea, but all I can say is that I can no longer enjoy this game the same way I did before this happened.

Nothing kills a game experience faster than losing all of your progress. Especially when the game is on such a grand scale as this one.

Losing all the cars and houses is bad, but having to unlock all the roads again before you can get anywhere quickly is probably the worst part of all.

I have the same issue as you except that I backup my files with an Xecuter Connectivity Kit and Xplorer360 on my PC. Long story short game killed itself and my backup from my PC no longer works.. Champion with 615 gamerpoints, 30 or so cars, about 8 houses, countless hours, and about 90% of the map found. GONE!

What makes things worse is that I haven't read a single response from Atari to you in any of your threads OR other members. We're on the official Atari forums, I'm sure they read EVERY thread, I'm sure they're aware of this issue. Why not respond..? Can you begin a service to repair lost saves for us? Can you at least recognize the problem? help us.

An idea to get u thru until the fix is done. Make alternate saves directly to the MC and to the HD. That way the game actually has made the save and it isn't a copy.

My game has frozen, but I've been lucky not to have lost anything -- knock on wood.

When did you buy y'all systems. Mine was boiught in december and even though the crashing happens constantly, I still have my 3 million dallor house and 25 cars/motorcycles.

My GPS and race menu has no music and some areas have to load and you can fall through streetss. What about you?

Rather than when you bought it, when was it made. I'm on my second 360. The second one was manufactured on 5/26/2006.

Hmmm.... isn't Atari owned by Sony Corp. which uses that notorious copy protection software on their CDs? Could this be what is causing the problems?

That doesn't work either.. I made a direct copy of my save on my PC using the Xectuer Connectivity Kit and Xplorer360. When my save file became corrupt on my HDD I attempted to load my backup and for whatever reason it does not work either now. Atari/Eden must have something in place so that users cannot share save files.. which is a fine idea in theory. However when coupled with freezing issues and all the corrupt save files it leads to many users (like myself) losing all their progress.

I'm sorry to hear about your freezing problem but this issue along with similar ones have been identified as software issues.

This doesn't seem like a copy protection issues.. more of a proprietary Atari/Eden save system in place to debunk save sharing.

I wasn't saying to copy it back to your HDD, but to temporarily set the storage device to the RMC and read it directly from that into the game, then reset the storage device to the HDD. I don't know if you can do this because I haven't tried. I worked in IT for years.

I understand that but I don't think you read my post through.. Bottom line, it won't work. Nothing seems to work as simplistic as that sounds.. take from my example as proof or read some of my other posts on these forums for details. I'm burnt and tired of waiting on Atari/Eden.

I built designer computers for years..
