Damn the inevitable happend! I had nothing but great things to say about this game till now.
This is what happened: I read today that you were able to upload TDU screenshots and decided to give it a whirl. So I go to upload a picture all is going well and at about 25% of uploading my screenshot my screen froze and went fuzzy! THEN I looked at my xbox and for the first time it had the ring of death red circles:eek:. I was like oh **** my xbox just died!
So I thought hopefully I will just restart it and everything would be fine - well it wasn't. My xbox turned back on with red circles and nothing on the screen. I then unplugged all my cabes and waited a few seconds plugged it all back in and PHEW it came back up. So then I loaded my game up again and when you first get into game it autosaves, and as it was autosaving the screen froze, went fuzzy and yes red circle of death once again. And of course it says not to turn off your console while it was saving but that is all I could do as that was the screen it was froze at. Figured I was doomed at least on the gamesave now.
So I reboot again and go check my gamesaves on the HD - I now had 2 gamesaves for my profile and deleted the last one as I figured it was the one that would be broke. Now go back into game hit continue and low and behold gamesave corrupted.
I am pretty crushed as I had a few cars and a couple of houses and about a million dollars. I had 21 hours into game at expert level with 31% of the game complete.
I don't know if I have the desire to replay all that to get back to where I was. I guess in the end luckily my xbox seems ok - lucky for you eden games.
Man I am cracked!
It is an awesome game but as another guy said that lost a gamesave - the luster of the game is over and will be much less exciting to get back to where I was. Sigh
Sorry for the long rant but thanx for listening.

Well unfortunately it seems my xbox did die after all. Started playing with it the day after this incident and around 5 minutes in any game now it freezes and I get artifacts! :(
Can't say now if it was the game that caused it or was just another case of an xbox going bad.
So then I say to myself "hmm I guess I will have to exchange it for a new one from where I bought it" Get my reciept and guess what - I have had my xbox for 99 days which is 9 days passed the return by date and 9 days after microsofts warranty expires. YAY!! Lovin life right now.
Well somewhat luckily I bought it from where my wife works and hopefully she can work some magic to get it swapped out - oh but damn even if they do trade it - there goes all my saves and achievements freakin awesome! Hmmm maybe I will just keep my HD and hope they don't notice if they swap. ARGH!
Feel my pain peeps - Let ya know what happens.

You won't lose your achievements. They are stored on the XBL servers.
That was the first thing I noticed when I lost my original game in TDU. Even though I had to start over, all of my previously earned achievements are still counted in my profile.
Unfortunately, you still have to unlock them in the game again before it will let you in to new areas. Paint shop, Bike dealers, etc.

dude that really sucks. i hate that 90 day garuntee bs, MS should be more confident and put at least a year one on it...also im scared my save might be corrupted =x when my game broke, it didnt freeze at a auto save but when i was looking at my saves, there was 2 on my HDD, im thinking of moving one to a MU then see which one is good. i also suggest u get a MU to make a backup of ur save file just cause of this stuff and hopefully u can figure something out for ur xbox:up:

I had the same thing happen to me last night. I downloaded the launch car pack, went to the Audi dealership and when looking at the RS4 the game froze. Ok I thought, games are known to freeze. Then I restarted my 360 and tried the same thing. This time it froze before I could even make it to the dealership. By now I have the red circle of death and can not restart my 360. Just like the first person said, I upluged all the cables ( and said a few prayers) and when I repluged my 360 it worked. Now I was not going to chance TDU again so I put in Madden 07. The game froze as soon as it loaded the entrance of the players. Again I have the flashing red lights! So I have tested this on 4 games now, including a few Xbox live arcade games and come up with the same result, the red circles. Does any one know of anything to fix this, anyone from Eden or Atari?? I really would not like to lose all of my saves. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Eh. Wouldn't this be grounds for Atari/Eden being sued if TDU did that to several Xbox 360s/other consoles/PCs?

An update to my previous post, I can now not get to the 360 dashboard. The system freezes up before it even comes to the dashboard. This really sucks. Again if anyone has any suggestions, let me know, or let me know if you have the same problem.

everybody that is having the red circle of death problems... ur forgetting to do these 2 things
make sure ur powerbrick is ventilated... dont throw it behind something
and when u unplug all ur cords.. un-attach the hard drive and start it up without the hard drive attached.... then attach ur hard drive with the power plug unplugged....
and it should work.... if it diddnt... when u disconnect ur hard drive... start it up without it attached... then start it up with it attached.. but dont unplug it when u go to re attach it this time....
and it might have over heated.. let it cool for 24 hours.. un plugged....... or at least 12.. i let mine sit for 24... and i havent had a problem since.. i had the same thing happen to me... only i was playin condemed..... and over played it.. it froze.. and that was that... and just on instinct.. i did those procedures... so i hope it helps!!
and im sorry about what happend to ur xbox's guys.... best of luck with ur new 1s!

I appreciate the help, but I did have my 360 well ventilated and also did try to start the 360 with and without the harddrive attached. I have come to the conclusion that I will be using my service plan to get a new 360. I just need to find a way to save all of my saves and downloaded content. Also I would like to find out the extent of this problem, and if it is related to something from TDU or if it is something larger. Thanks again though.

Corrupt your save, yes, break your 360, no. It sounds like your 360 was failing anyway and it first went wrong while you were playing TDU.

If you'd like to back things up you can use the Xecuter Connectivity Kit is you have an SATA motherboard. There is a new product from Xectuer called USB360 for those without SATA or want an easier experience. I talk about both those pieces of hardware in the photo extraction tutorial in my signature.
The extent of the problem doesn't matter so much anymore, from what I've been told it should mostly be under control by the next patch.

I got the rings of death once but I think that was from overheating on Graw.I called microsoft wanting to get an extension, no they wouldn't budge. Sorry I have a freaking life and can't pay attention to your stupid letter so there goes the warranty. I'm going to see if I can call them and tell them I was away on vacation and see if they buy it. As for swapping it, don't they scam the serial number on the console?

I got mine from Best Buy. I spent $49 for their TWO year replacement warranty. Red lights? Just bring it down and pick up a new one. As they break, wash, rinse, repeat.

No post or problem is ever ignored, but it may not get a response as quickly as we may like. This is due largely to the fact that most of the resources that could respond with answers are still directed towards finding/fixing the problems. As the Xbox 360 is such a new platform, both developers and gamers are still getting to know their way around all of the possibilities and hazards. I feel your pain and have dealt with similar issues myself.
Regarding corrupt saves - While there are a couple of bugs that can cause a corrupt save, these are very rare and the typical cause of a corrupt save is a misunderstanding. Test Drive Unlimited does not support multiple saves and if you make a copy/back-up of your saves they effectively become corrupt (this may not be apparent immediately tho). Another misunderstanding comes from the fact that a "saved game" is actually 2 save files linked to your profile. If you examine your saved game, you should see 2 save files at all times. From my understanding, the game was designed this way to prevent cheating as much as possible (selling or giving away copies of saved games, etc.). [I'm sure you find it as annoying as I do to have to play for weeks to get your Champion rating and multiple houses with garages full of supercars, just to see some noob load up a profile just like it that his cousin gave him...]
Regarding the "Ring of Red Lights" - That is indiciative of a hardware issue. It is not related to the game/software at all. You can Google "Xbox 360 Ring Lights" and get a bit more information (such as http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906652).
The programers really appreciate your understanding and help in pointing out these issues. I know they are working towards fixing what they can, based on your posts, and need as much detailed information about the issue as possible. The quicker they can identify it, the better the chance they can hopefully fix it.
Thank you!

I got a corrupt save from the game freezing during the saving process. That was before the patch though, the game has not froze since.

Swap it, keep the drive, they keep their drive.

I did that, but now I can only use my XBLA games when I am online and nobody elses profile can use them at all.

yea, they are coded to the 360s serial number and downloading profile.
When the drive is moved the only value that remains true is the profile.

Yup, I need proof of returning my broken xbox just to talk to custome service. Then I will have to get a code for each game, create a new profile, alllll this crap... The list goes on and on.
I am pretty pissed at MS for releasing such a messed up piece of hardware, and getting more pissed that game developers are using Live users to beta test their games.
