Hi all!

I'm relatively new to the forums here. I've looked through them before, and some of the things you guys can do with the game is sheer brilliance. I am amazed at some of the creativity and craftsmanship here.

Anyways, I'm new to the whole "Custom Scenery" thing. I'm just beginning to get in some new packs, and I love them. However, I am having a little trouble with the "Error" messages that occur whenever you try to place custom scenery. Some packs work, while others do not. I've used the Walt Disney Objects pack and that worked (I deleted the extra folder), but some other packs just don't seem to work. I'm interested in the two Disney castles, and I downloaded them, extracted them, and placed them in the "Style/Themed" folder, but when I try to place them, the game freezes. If anyone knows how to resolve this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd help Berry out!

Also, does anyone know if you can turn the shadows off in RCT3? If so, please let me know how!

Thanks,
-Berry-

That's how you fix that error I think; no shadows. There should be an option under the options menu for that.

I've looked in the options, but there wasn't anything that mentioned "shadows".

The no svd error means that the files are misplaced, ie one of the ovl files is not where RCT3 expects it to be.

You have to be careful with the directory structure, it should look like this:
(directories in bold, things in parantheses depend on the downloaded pack)

Style

Themed

(theme name)

style.common.ovl
style.unique.ovl
(subdirectoryA)

(item01).common.ovl
(item01).unique.ovl
(item02).common.ovl
(item02).unique.ovl
...

(subdirectoryB)

(item01).common.ovl
(item01).unique.ovl
(item02).common.ovl
(item02).unique.ovl
...

(subdirectory...)

A common error is that a superfluous directory level creeps in beyond (theme name), make sure that this doesn't happen. You also may not rename anything!

Here's how my set-up looks: (I'm using WindowsXP for this)

I'm in the "Themed" folder right now, and there's a list of all the scenery. Originally, the castle pack was named "Chateau", but I simply renamed it to "Castle".

I open the "Castle" folder.

I see five icons - three of which are folders. The three folders say:

chateau magique lulujarre set 2
chateau magique lulujarre set 2 large
chateau magicque lulujarre set 2 pe****here are two OVL icons that say "style.unique.ovl" and "style.common.ovl".

Everything looks like it's in the right place, but yet when I try to pull it up on the game, it freezes and I get the "Error" message.

Hm, have you turned off shadows? You also may not rename anything beyond the folder in the theme directory, but it seems like you didn't. If turning off shadows doesn't help, I have no idea what could still be wrong.

Does it give that message with the old folder name? Belgabor is probably in his element here; I'll let him help.

Ok, the shadows are now off (and it makes the game run a little faster, I noticed), but the castle still crashes the game. There's an error box that comes up and says "No :svd for :sv" or something like that. I'm almost completely sure that the file is in its rightful place, but yet it crashes.

Make absolutely sure the directory structure is as posted above (I edited the post mainly to redirect others to a complete explanation ;) ). If it is, try to delete and reinstall the pack. If that doesn't help, I'm stumped.

I've heard that changing the name of a folder can mess things up. I'm not sure if this is completely true or not, but you might want to change it to the original name.

EDIT: Nevermind, belgabor already confirmed this.

Actually my version is labeled " chateau magique lulujarre set 2".

The three folders inside (along with the two OVL files...) are labeled
"chateau magique lulujarre set 2",
"chateau magique lulujarre set 2 petit" and
"chateau magique lulujarre set 2 large"

The large one WILL crash if you have shadows enabled.

I might be wrong, but I thought you could rename the theme folder.

I'm pretty sure that the name has to match or RCT3 won't read it correctly.

Indeed, you're right.

Indeed, you're right.

Ooh, that makes a lot of sense, because I installed the Disney/MGM Studios pack, and it worked fine - up until I renamed it to an English title.

Update: I completely deleted every piece of Custom Scenery, and I started over. I download V1 of the "Chateau" castle, and it worked right fine when I used it the game. The only problem was it vanishes when you go up high.

I'm going to try the "Rock 'n' Roller Coaster" set again, and hopefully it will work. I tried it before, but that crashed too.

New Update: I've reinstalled all the packs and they are working perfectly. It seems that renaming the folders seemed to be the problem. Thanks for you help guys! Belgabor, I used your protocol to download the folders - thanks for that!

Belgabor, can we copy and paste your directory structure for the (MANY) posts asking about getting the error message? Credit to you of course!

Sure, that's why created it. Linking to it might be easier due to the mass of list tags I nested =)

Linking to it will work out just fine...nice job btw!

Most custom scenery vanishes if you get too high. Just a fact of life.
