3D Modelling programs

Are there any free ones?

Has anyone any hints or tips or manuals how to make an object in 3d studio?

I even cant seem to make a simpel bal on flat ground stored as a good pic, even though I figured progamms like photoshop and paint shop out by myself 3d studio's seem really hard to learn while just using the program.

Or is anyone feeling up to guide me through the first steps through msn (quick learner just need some basics to work with I think)
