View Full Version : New areas crash the toolset

I downloaded the toolset successfully, and it loads fine. When I try to create a new area in the module, any area, the toolset crashes. If I then agree to sending a report to Microsoft, that never completes, but stays endlessly reporting.

Also, I tried importing an area from NWN, but that crashes the toolset as well, but it was a complex area, so I will try other areas.

My Computer is a Dell with a GEForce MX4 420 Video card, 512Mb RAM, 40 GB Hard drive (about 8 GB free).

Any help would be appreciated.....

Update on the problem...... The reporting completes, but it takes 10-15 minutes to do so.... Opening any area file, opening an imported file, displaying a preview of an area all crash the toolset.

Thanks for the updates, we are looking into this one.

I do not know much about this game, but maybe this will help.

You did not give very much info on you system, but it looks like your video card would not run the game. Almost no games coming out support the GeForce4 MX series cards, because they do not support Hardware T&L. All gaming companies get reports of games not working for these cards and Intel gpu's.

I am told NWN2 requires Hardware T&L support, and support for Pixel Shader 2.0

You would need:

Nvidia 6600 and up
ATI 9800 and up

I have not worked on this game, so please do not take this as Official.

Ok, Further info..... The video card is on the compatibility list in the readme file, and I used the video driver in the drivers file to update my driver. Still the same behavior. File->New->Area->Any size area->Finish - It waits about 5-10 seconds and crashes the Toolset. I can't seem to find a sample area, so I don't know if an already existing area will work, but importing ERF's from NWN, no matter how simple, don't work either. They import fine, but when you click them to open them, the Toolset comes up with the "need to close" message. Hope this helps.

Processor is a Pentium 4 - 2.53 GHz, 512Mb RAM, Invidia GEForce4 MX 420 video card with 64Mb memory, 40GB harddrive (Stock Dell Unit)

Your problem may be related to something else though. Have you attempted uninstalling/reinstalling?

I am having the same sort of problem. I open the toolset, then I try to make a new module. It askes me if I would like to save, and I have said both yes and no, sving and not. The create new module screen never comes up. So, I attempted to make a new area. If I make one of any size or type, It starts to load or something, then crashes with an apologetic message. Does it need time to load, and If so, then will there be a confirmation screen when it is ready to go?
I have a Dell Computer with no modifications, an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX with AGP8X (Dell), and an Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66GHz.
Thank You In Advance For Any Assistance.

I have seen this posted on the Bioware board before but I still have not been able to overcome it, Toolset keeps crashing on initiation at loading management resources.

System AMD64 3200
1 Gig Ram
WinXP svc pk 2
GeForce EVGA 7600 GS
Driver 91.47

Soundblaster Audegy
Driver 5.12.8.1164

I have reinstalled the toolset and rebooted, reinstalled .net 2.0.
reinstalled Direct X 9c
and reinstalled drivers twice.

Is there any help you can give me?

i'm experiencing exactly the same problem as Phoenixus; the editor crashes at every startup while loading resource manager.
i've been trying both a 7300 GT and a 7600 GT nVidia cards , with the drivers provided with the editor (84.21) and the latest drivers from nvidia (91.47)...
I turned off antivirus and firewall since i thought they could generate some conflicts and such, but without any result;
the application keeps crashing >.<

here my specs:

intel p4 3.0 Ghz
win XP (with the latest updates)
1,5gb Ram
nvidia 7600 GT

thx in advance.

I had the same problem, then i figured that the toolset needs Windows Installer 3.0 (not included in the install) for .net framework 2.0 (if you run windows xp 64, you'll have to download an x64 version of .net framework).

When you install windows installer 3.0, you have to uninstall and reinstall the toolset.

I hope it can solve your problem.

I guess I have to ask then, if the Nvidia GEForce MX4 video cards are going to be supported at some point, both by the toolset and the game, or will a purchase of a new video card be necessary to play NWN2? The Nvidia video cards were widely used in the Dell boxes, and it seems to me would make up a large segment of possible users. Unless it is a hardware incompatibility with the new graphics engine?

I did that already, and reinstalled the toolset I think 8-10 times now.

There's a thread going in the Bioware boards about our collective troubles...

http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=500190&forum=100&sp=0

I am here at Atari's tech support since they seem to be the only place to find any kind of tech support at all regarding this.

None of the Obsidian Devs have commented.

Ok, I misread the readme file. Many video cards are not supported, because they can't handle the hardware shading and other parts of the graphics engine. I just ordered the nvidia GEForce 6600 card, as that is on the compatibility list. Here is the list of cards that are definitely supported. If your card isn't on the list, then there is a good chance that is the reason the toolset is crashing......

Compatible:

ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and XT
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and XT
ATI Radeon X600 series
ATI Radeon X700 series
ATI Radeon X800 series
ATI Radeon X1600 series
ATI Radeon X1800 series
ATI Radeon X1900 series
Nvidia GeForce FX 5700 series
Nvidia GeForce FX 5800 series
Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 series
Nvidia GeForce 6600 series
Nvidia GeForce 6800 series
Nvidia GeForce 7600 series
Nvidia GeForce 7800 series
Nvidia GeForce 7900 series

That's it for now, I guess. Good luck!

I'm going to add my name to the list of people with the

AppName: nwn2toolsetlauncher.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 AppStamp:4519b7d8
ModName: nwn2_memorymgr_tsb.dll ModVer: 1.0.0.0 ModStamp:4519b6e2

Intel Pentium 4 3ghz
512ram
WinXP pack 2
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700
driver 8.291.0.0

I've tried re-downloading the toolset, tried re-installing, rolledback and re-installed the newest catalyst drivers available, still nothing.

Anyone want to reccomend a good inexpensive graphics card?

Phoenixus

Well if you can get your hands on an unlocked (pipelines that is) and overclocked 6600gt you'd be in good shape.

MontyThreeCard

Installed the Nvidia GEForce 6600 Card - Problems went away..... DEFINITELY have to upgrade your video card to use the toolset.

Thanks for all the help!
