NWN2 on Direct2Drive

I happened to notice that NWN2 is available on Direct2Drive, via a hefty 4.5 GB download. So I got to thinking about that. How exactly would that work, if you got to download it now, but still had to wait for the physical package to arrive in your mailbox, since we have this lovely piece of software called SecuROM that Atari was so kind to include free of charge. But wait a minute, Direct2Drive deals with downloads, rather than physical shiny boxes.

The way that I see it, there are 3 possibilities:

1.) Direct2Drive is now shipping physical packages, in addition to their download.

2.) Direct2Drive customers are gonna buy and download the game, only to be plagued with the "Please Insert NWN2 Play Disc..." message. I forsee some angry calls to customer service here.

-or-

3.) It's been decided NOT to add SecuROM to the mix.


So, does anybody know how this is going to work?

You forgot option 4, in which we get the game but no CD key to complete the install :)

You can find your key by going to your account page and hitting the download button.

Well, what it does in reality is uses Securom, spins your drive to no apparent effect, and busts if you have any Securom incompatible software. Also, because it appears the D2D required this funky hacked version of the main bin, the patcher is also broken.

So you're left with no multiplayer support until who knows when.

Do not purchase from D2D.

My D2D vertion is working other than the patch fiasco... I don't have any REAL DVD drive hooked. I ONLY have Deamon tools installed with Securom disabled.

My hardware DVD drive is external on USB and switched around between my 3 PC (don't need 3 drives ehehe).

And it works. I always run my games as backups via Deamon-Tools virtual drive and since i dont have an Internal DVD drive I never get any problem with Securom or other software =)
