Ok, please report all D2D issues here apart from the patching one as that has its own thread. At the moment we seem to have lots of threads popping up. I will try and get answers to these problems but please be patient. I understand it is frustrating right now but we are trying to get answers for you.

**POSSIBLE FIXES**

PLEASE CHECK OUT: http://support.direct2drive.com (http://support.direct2drive.com) BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS.

Q. I can't find my CD Key, where is it?
A. Log into www.fileplanet.com (http://www.fileplanet.com/) (same username/password as Direct2Drive account). Click My Account then Beta Keys and it will have your details there. The exact location is here: http://www.fileplanet.com/betas/keydisplay_test.aspx

You can also find it by going to your account page and hittind the download now button. It will take you to a page where you can download again as well as get your key.

Q. What is my activation code?
A. So far, from what I can tell, the activation code is your CD Key, please make sure you enter this in CAPITAL LETTERS and include the dashes (-).

Q. I launch the game but when I click PLAY it crashes to the desktop. What should I do?
A. Check your graphics card is supported. If it is then download the latest drivers from the manufacturers website. If this still fails then make another post explaining what you have done, make of graphics card and any error messages displayed.

Q. Problems downloading, during download a message saying “file cannot be initialized” causes the download to cease.
A. This is because of the size of the file. If your file system is fat32 it can’t download a file that large. D2D are breaking up the file to give users the option to download the file in 2 smaller parts which should resolve any of these issues.

Q. I can't extract the game, what am I doing wrong?
A. You must either use the download manager to extract the files (the big play button), or Winzip as other extraction programs can’t deal with files over 2GB.

Q. What is my activation code?
A. So far, from what I can tell, the activation code is your CD Key, please make sure you enter this in CAPITAL LETTERS and include the dashes (-).

But what if, even when you put in your CD-KEY, it doesn't go through? It acts like it can't connect to wherever it's trying to connect to. I disabled ALL firewalls and even bypassed my router. Still nothing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:

This is what it's saying after I put in my CD-KEY. I verified I typed it correctly dozens of times, and tried copy/pasting it.

Activation process has been terminated. Please make sure the unlock code has been entered correctly.
Press BACK to attempt another activation or press CANCEL to abort. In case the problem still persists please contact mailto:support@securom.com (support@securom.com).

Do I need to e-mail this securom thing?

I wont have answers for a couple hours as its pretty early in New York right now. But hopefully I can get you some answers soon. It does seem more like a connection issue here though.

Also, it's really strange that the second message comes up INSTANTLY. I think it's acting like I don't even have an internet connection and doesn't even try to find the server it needs. You'd think there'd be some kind of delay while it tried to access the server.

I know the patch is messed up, but when I did try to do that earlier, I was having to hold down the shift key as it said that forced the program to get a connection. I'm wondering if the same kind of problem is happening here.

Ok mine keeps downloading corrupted files, last night i tried repairing them, which worked except for the nwnmain.exe. Which leaves me with the same problem, I can't even start the install. Also, my download will stop at 320mb and say its complete, when i know the file is like 4GB. Is there not at least a way to just get our money back so i can just go buy the actual game, instead of wasting 50 bucks.

That is something you will have to take up with D2D. All I can suggest is that you delete all downloaded files, clear your temp internet files and try it again.

Keep checking the possible fixes bit at the top as I will continue to update. Also, you should check out http://support.direct2drive.com (http://support.direct2drive.com/) for all D2D support issues.

So I got the CD key from D2D, copied and pasted it to notepad, downloaded the game, and installed it using the key that was given.

Now, when I try to run the game, it says that it needs to activate over the internet but can't. It asks for the unlock code so I re-pasted the given CD Key from D2D and I get a message stating that securom sucks (not exactly that, but close enough).

WTF? How come I can't even play the game? I don't much care about the patching issues (yet), but not even being able to play?

Help?

If securom is complaining (and I do think it's quite odd that a game purchased online has any use for securom at all) then there are some cookie cutter things I think you can try. Uninstalling/disabling any drive emulation software, and that sort of thing.

I think it would help if you posted the actual error.

Hello? Just wondering if anyone is even checking the thread anymore. Any updates for those of us who are unable to even play the game?

D2D are currently working with securom to get to the bottom of this problem. I dont have much news on this and I would suggest checking out the support section for D2D as it is an issue with them :)

Alright, since everyone seems to be going crazy over this activation stuff, I've been intentionally trying to find ways to "break" my activation and cause it to not validate (long process, but just trying to help out). Alright, figured I'd list so far my #1 cause for locking out the activation.

VIRTUAL DRIVE PROGRAMS!!!! Which include inCD, DAEMON Tools, Alcohol 120%, etc. Now, what you need to remember is just because you exit the program on the toolbar, the effects may still be active. USE CTRL-ALT-DEL and seriously, I recommend ending ANY not essential system processes, at a minimum any dealing with your virtual drive program. THEN try and activate your game, hope this helped!

Q. I cant extract the game, what am I doing wrong?
A. You must either use either our download manager to extract the files, or Winzip as other extraction programs can’t deal with files over 2GB.

What exactly is "our download manager to extract the files"??

I purchased NWN2 today.
I downloaded the 2 zips from D2D/Fileplanet using the Fileplanet Downloader.
I ate a chicken sandwich... with bacon.
I unzipped them using Winzip10.
I tried to install, got CRC errors.
Deleted install files
chkdisk'ed
defraged
Downloaded 2 files again to different directories
Ate some pringles.
Verified the zip files with winzip10.
unzipped with winzip10.
Still got CRC errors.
Used "ignore" to get through installation.
Launched patcher
Patcher downloaded patches.
Patcher fails to install patches because files are of incorrect length.

Opened a ticket with D2D.

What am I supposed to do here?

The instructions above are misleading, I had problems with WinZip10 for extraction, but then I just used the extraction program built into the Fileplanet Download Manager, and the files extracted correctly with no errors and installed fine. (It's the big "play" arrow in the download manager) :D

No friggin way.. I didn't know it had that.

I'll go try that out right now.

THANKS!

Update:
Nope, that didn't do it.. Still got CRC errors.. Thanks anyway!

Well finally got my game to activate. It had everything to do with the internet options in Internet Explorer. changed my security setting down to "Medium" and deleted all cookies/tempfiles/history/etc... and it worked.

I hope we can still download one big file for us non-cavemen NTFS users... I hate split files.

D2D said I needed over 7gigs of memory to download...cleared the space to get a new error while trying to download.

Can not find patch file: /nwn2_pc_english-d2d_from095_to101.txt
Get the critical rebuild.
http://nwn2.obsidian.net/support/patch_english-d2d.html#crit
The patch has been aborted

But we all know if you go to that site it doesnt come up and if you go to get the patch on your site to download...its not there and if we find your crit files to download they again are not there.

Then again it makes me feel better knowing that your all working on the issue and I may or may not be fixed.

Btw is there anyway I would go bout returning this faulty program for my 50$ back? Would love just to rid myself of a box of frustration.

Hi there,

The file size on Direct 2 Drive has been reduced and split into two files for your convenience for you non-NTSF users.

If you have any issues with your download or activating the game please let us know by contacting us through our support system:

http://support.direct2drive.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=3091 (http://support.direct2drive.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=3091)

Any issues related to the patch should be resolved now. They have been working diligently around the clock on the issues with the patch and auto-updater however, you do require 7 Gigs of hard drive space in order to install the patch.

The patching process creates a backup of the files that will be patched, and unfortunately that includes pretty much most of the build.

If you are able to free up 7GB, you should be able to apply the patch. Obsidian will be releasing an update to the nwupdater.exe that clarifies what is wrong in the error message, but unfortunately it won’t fix the 'must free up 7GB of space to patch' problem since that's unfortunately how the patching process operates.

If you require any further information please see:

I purchased the D2D version yesterday after trialing a friends DVD copy for a couple days which updated and ran fine on my machine.

The D2D download went fine as did installation, I then ran the update feature and it told me to run the application. Did that, entered my key, game started fine, quit the game and ran the updater again. Updating went fine and completely successfully.

Now when I run the game, version 1.01, I see the splash screen and then the program exits unexpectedly with an option to send a report to Microsoft.

So far in 5 hours of screwing around
- Tried the provided AMD XP executable

- Updated video drivers

- Installed DirectX from the D2D distribution

- Reinstalled and properly uninstalled Alcohol 120% and Daemon tools to make sure nothing residual was left behind. This includes ensuring no virtual drives left active, no emulations enabled and cleaned out Alcohol registry entries.

- Uninstalled and reinstalled the game then repatched and rebooted, twice. I ensured version 1.00 ran fine each time I reinstalled before updating.

- I've read all the forum entries I could find here and double checked various registry settings that have fixed other users problems.

I followed the instructions in the documentation to prepare a Securom analysis. Only reason I mention this is that I get the exact same error, program exits unexpected problem, when I agree to launch the analysis. It still completes and prepares the analysis file however.

Machine specs
Athlon 64 3700+
2Gb RAM
Audigy 2 ZS (drivers updated a few days ago)
Geforce 7800GT

Where do I go from here?

Edit: Just sent a copy of this post and the analysis file to the securom guys as well.

I've seen a lot of worse problems on these boards, but I thought I would report this as it seems to be a direct2drive issue and I would like to see it remedied.

When My wizard casts Mage Armor and various other character effects with visual components (shield, ghostly visage, etc). A visual anomaly appears that looks like a translucent box with strange reflections of the game environment.
