For those of you who haven't been following my MenkenMania thread in the Parks forum, I've started dabbling in custom scenery creation, mainly because it's necessary in order for me to create some of the things I want to create in my "Beauty and the Beast" section of the park.

I've decided to go ahead and post my progress on here so that I can get feedback and ideas from the brilliant, creative minds that lurk and participate on the CS forum. I'm going to leave this first post as just an introduction--when I release the set, I'll post the download here.

Sorry for the double-post--I wanted to leave the 1st post as an intro.

Here are some pics of what I have so far in the set (and there's a LONG way to go still).

^ Weathervane (shown here at 3 different heights) and 8 "stained glass" walls.

Here's a pic showing the walls in use:

I also created a short wooden post billboard:

http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/7272/woodensigns1zf7.jpg
^ The sign can be used at 1H or 2H by raising the scenery piece on notch. As a subtle touch, I created the billboard at a slight angle, as if the post wasn't stuck exactly vertical into the ground. The billboard itself is set for a 1:2 image ratio.

^ Here are the signs from the back. The signs are 25 polys each--the post is a cylinder using only 5 welded vertices--and I deleted the hidden faces on the bottom of the post.

Woah! Really neat! The signs are beautiful! You are so talanted. Just a though could you make a bill board thats just a hair short of 1x1. I like the size of the 1x1 billboards but they are just a bit too big and usually over lap everything.

The stained glass windows are gorgeous! I really love the weathervane and how it came out. The new signs are perfect! I like how you added the slight tilt...very realistic and clever!

I love the stain glass windows. The billboards look as though they will be very versatile as well. What other kinds of treats are you dreaming up? Do you plan on completing your park before releasing the set? Take your time but, please do keep us updated.

Sorry for the lack of updates, everyone. I've been having issues with the importer crashing everytime I try to load up my CS set, so that's really put things on hold for a bit. Belgabor has tried to help me out with the issue, so hopefully I can get back on track soon.

Now that I've gotten positive feedback on the following "cut-out character" approach:

I've been working hard at gathering all the images I need for the ride, as well as the appropriate audio to go with it. I'm also experimenting with the animated texture option in the new importer... ;)

So, that's where I'm at, but this is a pretty lengthy process right now of just gathering the necessary textures. Plus I have a Nintendo Wii on pre-order, so as of early next week I may be a bit distracted for a little while...

... a little bit o' Toad with those cutouts! Cool!

Looking better and better, mikey!

Have you tested the version I sent after you gave me the debug report? I haven't heard from you since :)

I'd have to say that it sounds like he's had it fixed or he wouldnt be making a progress report here, Bel...

Well, in his pm he told me it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, so he might make slow progress without it working properly.
