Ok so I have made some wall pieces for RCT3 and I was wondering how I actually get it into RCT3 and make a pack. Please tell me if you think my s are good. Please keep in mind that this is my first attempt at Custom Scenery so don't make fun of me. More pieces will be coming soon.

Are you using Google Sketchup? If so, you are going to need to figure out how to use Blender, or the Sketchup Pro free trial (Which you can only use for so long) Google Sketchup can't be used [directly] for CS.
If you are using Sketchup Pro, then it looks good!

Sorry, but I am not using Pro. Don't you put it on Blender to import it into RCT3? And also how do I make the circles recolorable?

I think there is some kind of problem with the textures. You need to import it into Blender to texture it.

Wait, just so that I know, is Blender free? I don't want to spend any money right now on a program.

Yeah, that is the same problem I am having. I found the file and tried to open it, but it wouldn't let me.

I know I only took 2 Tutorials and now I am good at it! If somebody could tell me how to open up SketchUp models into Blender, I would make these items and many more into a pack to download. Oh yeah, I downloaded Blender already, if you are wondering.

Cool, what kind?

You need Blender for two reasons, it's the only free way to convert a format Google Sketchup writes to one the importer reads. And you need it to uv-map a texture to it.
And the thrid of the two reasons is that in some cases you need to clean up the model, as depending on how you created it, there might be superfluous faces or edges present.

You nee
What?

The file format that Google Skethup uses can not be used for the importer, you must export it from Sketchp and import it into Blender, UV-Map it and export it as a proper format.

What?
I have a touch-typing keyboard and tend to accidetally hit the tab key, which unfortunately switches focus to the "Post" button here, so with the next hit of "space" the post goes online -.-

Yeah, I know but when I try to import it into Blender it says " Error Unknown Type of File " Wait, you go to Open, right? I saw an option that said Import. And also, do you pack items on Blender? Because I saw another option that said Pack Items and Unpack Items. Please answer these questions.

Check the link in Belgabor's signature to his article on software (HERE) (http://belgabor.vodhin.net/software/), you'll find how to export a file from Sketchup into something Blender can read...

It's hard to understand so could someone put it in simpiler form???

- Get the kmz import script form the link on my software page (version 0.1.9c)
- Get the ASE export script from my software page
- Put both into Blender's scripts directory. Usually that's <Blenders installation path>\.blender\scripts
- Export your object in Google Earth kmz format (NOT Google Earth 4 format!)
- Import in Blender
- Clean and UV-map it (that's beyond a simple explanation, you need to read Blender tutorials for that)
- Select all objects you want to export
- Export to ASE. In the first group of the export options activate the first and third and deactivate the others. Leave the other option groups as they are.
- Import in the importer.

Okay, Belgabor, I understand your directions but I am having problems with the kmz import script. When I try to download it as a zip file, it has three options: Find, Save, and Cancel. When I click find, it takes me to Microsoft File Management or something and tells me to bring up another website that has information on it. When I do save, I tried to save it in .blender/scripts, but when I tried to save it, it had an error. Is this file compatible with Mircosoft Windows? If you know how to fix this, please tell me.

Ok. After klicking on the link on my software page you get to the page of the script's author. The correct download link is the first one after the (imho) ugly yellow boxes ("Download the script 0.1.9c with build in zipfile"). This points directly to the python script, so you should save it directly to the .blender/scripts dir. If this doesn't work and you use Internet Explorer, try Firefox for internet browsing, I works for me there :)

What about the export file? When I click on the link, all it is is HTML.
Belgabor
11-11-2006, 02:58 PM
It's also a direct link to a python script. File->Save it to the same .blender/scripts directory.

Man, this is really confusing
Is it a lot easier if you just design your custom scenery on Blender?
Belgabor
11-11-2006, 04:23 PM
Depends on your skills. I designed almost all of my CS directly in Blender, but Sketchup makes some things easy that are hard to achieve in Blender. Therefore my future approach for more complex scenery is to create the basic model in Sketchup and fine-tune it in Blender.

Well now I have another problem. When I try to get the importer thingy it says that the page cannot be displayed.

Which page exactly are you referring to?

The one that you download the file from.

If you refer to the kmz import plugin, the page works for me at the moment.
