View Full Version : Question on ride textures?

I wondering if there was a way to import ride textures into a scenery making program and change them. I'm asking because with the new animated scenery ( the cook's Doors) is it possible or even make custom rides? For example I would like to change the observation tower in the game to look more like this...

And make monorails look like the Disney World ones.
I was just wondering...

I know it sounds crazy but not too long ago animated doors sounded crazy!:noob:

It is currently not possible to create new or change existing rides. While the first may become possible somewhen, the second will almost certainly require patching original game files which most people probably won't be happy about.

thanks! I just hope that someday it can be possible!

It is possible to make your own track designs. BUT you would have to edit the existing ones. Probably have Jonwil make a program that can convert .ovl files into 3d modeling files.

^That would be great.

There probably is a 3d modeling program out there that can use .ovl files for modeling. Not sure :D

(By the way this is all just a wild guess)

I hope your right if we could do this parks would turn out so much more realistic! The coasters don't really matter as much as the monorail and sky tower. If we could do this would it be possible to change both the cars and the track? can they be recolorable? I'll have to ask jonwil about this!

'C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\tracks\coasters'

Take a look, all the directorys under tracks are filled with .ovl files. So yes you could probably edit the car shapes\colors\textures.

That's the problem. I don't know wether Atari uses a program or convert them into .ovl files. Check around google or ask Jonwil about it.

OVL files can not be edited by any modeler, otherwise things would be much easier. It is a format created by Frontier for RCT3.
The ovl dumper can be enabled to dump the 3D data, but such a verison will neither be made public, nor will we help anyone to do so. The reason is that it would be a copyright violation to use those 3D models. In my opinion it is even problematic to dump and reuse textures.
