How about slot machines? You could make the straight ones and some of those hexagonal ones you find in most arcades.
Looks great so far, by the way! Something I could defnately use in my park...
Actually, another idea, could you make some of those arcade driving games? You know, with the seats and steering wheel?

Actually, another idea, could you make some of those arcade driving games? You know, with the seats and steering wheel?
You could also make them so peeps could sit in them, and appear as if they are driving the simulator. That would be spectacular!

Yah, make them benches, and the people can sit in the chair and look as if they were riving by making there hands on the steering wheel, and there feet on the pedals.
It may or may not be useful given that peeps rarely sit in chairs, but getting a shot of one in them would be awesome, great affect. Then again sort of a waste of time.
Something that you may or may not include in this set is a casino, a casino may be going in my park, I was going to use Billboards at one point, now I am going to make my own, I have been busy, so if you could make like, slot machines, black jack tables, roulette, you know, I think, that would be great!!
I find casino's alot more popular in theme parks or in theme park resort's then arcade's that's why.
As for objects for the arcade, maybe some of those basketball things, DDR, pinball, pacman, shooting, racing, skiing, fishing, the normal stuff.
Thanks a lot guys.
@errt - Pinball machine coming soon;)
@nuclear fish - Nice ideas - i'm on it. Keep 'em coming.:up:
@el toro - Hmmm, will definitely try. That would be cool.:dark:
@top gun - Wow. Really like the casino idea. It would go great with the pools - peeps can make vegas style resorts. I better get busy before i lose motivation! lol What's DDR?

One thing that you will definately have to have in here though, that is ofcourse if it is and arcade, is the prize table (where you get prizes for points), ticket counter (thing that counts how many tickets), and finally, snack counter's.
By snack counter's I mean, just a cover for a Custom Counter with a popcorn machine and a drink machine, only because it gives that extra touch, and would come in handy in movie theatre's in parks (like mine;)), and just all around custom counter cover's.
Please consider atleast the last one just for the sake of it.
Ps- what program do you use?
-Nuclear Fish-
11-11-2006, 07:28 PM
^ I believe he uses 3ds Max.
One simple suggestion that shouldn't be too challenging: diagonal versions of most objects. Just to give more freedom in how we want them. And if everything was quarter tile placed that would be great too.

Sorry. I didn't know
Looks good, I have a request :p
Could you make one of those penny machines like this http://manfredini.it/immagini/Pusher/penny_falls.gif
@Nuclear Fish - hexagonal slot machines or octogonal? Yes i much prefer d/l diagonal and 1/4 tile pieces - will try.
@Tog Gun - I know we can now make CS working seats, but how can i make it so their hands are on the wheel and feet on the pedals? is that really possible? Also DDR is popular, will try. And i guess i will have to do the ticket/prize counter, and change machine.
@hpprinter - Hmmm, that sounds hard. Would be cool though. F1 right?
@Niccum 123 - Pacman coming later today;)
@K_peek2000 - Fooseball, or table football coming soon...
@Bowler4ever - Skeeball? Sorry i've forgotten what that is! Remind me...
@Davidcon - ? Dont know what you mean. Gonna need some more info, how about the name?!
@Soaked master, smartstoodios, CDN1212 - Time Crisis will have to be there. One of the most popular later-gen arcades.
@punkitten - Might try the claw machine.
@yesnt - Oops. Was wondering if anyone's tried the arcade before. Hopefully gonna do quite a few though.
@Huba - Yeah would also like to do that. Maybe octogonal ones.
Well it looks like i got my work cut out for sure!
Please post any pictures to help for textures, the bigger the better.

Moby, you should keep in mind that some of names/logos/setups of these arcade games people posted here are probably protected by copyright and/or a trademark. You can run into trouble if you recreate them 1:1.
Thanks everyone for the ideas.
Moby, you should keep in mind that some of names/logos/setups of these arcade games people posted here are probably protected by copyright and/or a trademark. You can run into trouble if you recreate them 1:1.
WHAT? Really? What kind of trouble? This is a non-profit venture, you think anyone would mind?
Belgabor
11-13-2006, 12:36 PM
I'm not a lawyer, so I have no idea what the consequences may be. I also cannot say if they would care, beacuse I'm not they :p
The only thing I can say is that whether it's non-profit or for profit probably only changes the consequences if they care, it does not allow you to break copyright. Trademarks are somewhat different. I'm not 100% sure, but applied to written works I think you can use them if you say somewhere in the same work (eg a web page) that xyz is a trademark of company abc.
Unfortunately what applies in this case is probably copyright (ie the design of the arcade machines) so I'd be very careful. I don't think it's a problem if you create 3D models "inspired" by real machines, but I'd refrain from using pictures of the real machines for texturing, better paint your own fantasy arcade machine.
Of course you can also ask the company that produces them for permission :)

The Brand Name logos with McDonald's and everything have had no problems as far as I'm aware. Moby isn't selling anything, so all he's really doing is advertisingt that company, which can only be a good thing. I don't really think anyone would care to be honest.

You don't really have to put the name of the games! just keep the main concept like a shooting game with no name, a driving game with no name. thats if you are really worried about this. I don't think that this is copyrighting. I think that in order to be considered copyrighting, you would need to steal the concept of their game, with a different name or steal the name and use different concept. an example would be if you made a game called Ghosts and the game play was the same as Pac-Man. Since you are recreating their games and not changing anything and you still use their names, you are clearly giving them credit for making.
Just like if you write an essay and copy and paste the information from a website, It is copyrighting. But If you take quotes from the website and give the author credit without changing it, thats allowed.

If everyone shoots the next one he meets it's still murder.

You're probably right, most won't care. I never said he will get into trouble, but he should be aware of the fact that he might get into trouble.
Just like if you write an essay and copy and paste the information from a website, It is copyrighting. But If you take quotes from the website and give the author credit without changing it, thats allowed.
That applies to written things, but you can't really cite a picture, as a cite is only a fraction of the text, and a fraction of a picture is usually useless =)
If you take a whole picture it's copyright infringement if you don't ask for permission, even if you credit the creator/copyright holder.
As you can see this isn't yet perfect, some of it needs to be welded/unwelded to make it appear better, and the position is slightly off. Plus if anyone can get a decent res picture of the side it would be much appreciated. Anyway here it is;

Sorry for the inactivity, I've been trying to make games with working seats or stalls but it seems to be quite complicated. If anyone can help me it'll be much appreciated. How high does it have to be? Can it only be in one position (path edge)? etc.

Ok, well for information on Benches, I'd ask Vodhin, he's the king of Seats and stuff like that....as for making stalls, it's actually quite easy, just direct yourself to this thread HERE (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=551706). That thread will get you all you need to know about making stalls....Good day, sir!
Moby's Arcade Games is expanding into the dark world of casino gambling. Since soaked i've wanted to build a large casino/pool complex, and soon will be able to. I might put this into a second 'Casino' set depending on the number of objects, but right now it's here. Here's the first object, Roulette. When i get the hang of making stalls i'll probably convert this and others, they'll look great with a vendor standing there. I just wish i could put 'em in a tux and bowtie!

Maybe you could create the outfit as part of the object. The suit could fit the space of the vendor, and largely cover the person up when he or she doesn't move.
-Nuclear Fish-
12-12-2006, 06:17 PM
^ The only problem is the vendors often move. They keep bending down and waving their arms, so most of the time they wouldn't appear to be wearing the suit and it would just look weird.
Model the vendors too. So they won't move...

Obi, thanks very much for that link it helped a lot.

Hmmm, not sure about that. I think it's correct because the croupier needs access to the whole table, and other employees are watching out for cheating. I will make sure though. The wheel might be made bigger.

Regarding ATMs I have good and bad news.
The good news is ATMs and medical centres are safe to use, in contrast to toilets they don't use animation (set unknowns to 10000 and -7500). The bad news is both do not use any effect points, which means that the peep positions are hard-coded.

Bad news. Having recently reformatted this PC, i've lost the early model files. Being the 'always in a rush' muppet i am, i forget to backup the 3ds files as they're stored somewhere in program files. I do have all the ASEs, all the OVLs, and all the importer files, but some objects (Pac-man especially) aren't right and need improving.
So does anyone know of a way of importing ASE files into a 3D modeller, preferably 3ds Max?
I really don't want to have to start from scratch on some of these objects.
Belgabor
12-19-2006, 10:40 AM
Well, I guess as ASE is a 3DSMax file format it should be able to open them directly...
But i can't, it says open failed on the 3 ways ive tried (file open; open with; and dragging into the open program)!??
In the File open menu the listed formats are;
.max
.drf
.chr

Yes, you can import ase in Blender, but you need an import script. I think I use the one on this page (http://www.quake3bits.com/htm/tools_utilities.htm).
This is awesome. Using animated textures i've rebuilt pacman now with an animated screen. It looks great, and i was surprised how well the game handled it on this low-end pc. Here's the texture i used, it lost quality when i converted to gif, it comes out much better in-game.

And here's a short vid of it in action. <<<DIRECT DOWNLOAD (1MB)>>> (www.freewebs.com/higradeproductions/pacman.wmv)
Thankyou so much Belgabor for making this possible and for all the help you've given me. I look forward to making more CS with animated textures. I think nearly anything is possible using animated alpha textures (in theory).

@J-Playa - I had to make each frame individually. I started with 2 pics, used simple animation tequniques in 3ds Max to make the frames, then imported them into the importer. It's a long process but i think the end result is great.
@Jag100 - That pinball machine was made by someone else in a different pack, so there's not much point in me doing it.

Slot Machines
I've created five different slot machines. I've made them as three in a line in one object. This is so they fit together neatly, if they were 1/4 tile each, there would be big gaps between each one and it wouldn't look right. However this means that you can't place only one. Let me know if you like it this way.

You could try making offsets of each, like Shyguy did with his windows. I.E. the Haywire slot machine in the center could have it's text string as something like 'Haywire', while the other machines would be known as 'Haywire offset 1' and 'Harwire offset 2' (or you could try 'Haywire center', 'Haywire right', and 'Haywire left' if your worried at all about copying). This way we'll be able to place, for instance, a Haywire, a Triple Diamond, and a Shockwave all in the same square. Actually, you might want to do this to other objects in your set, so we could do complete walls of games for a packed arcade look. Of course, this is only a suggestion.
By the way, I'm really beginning to like this set. I look forward to downloading it. :)

Not sure exactly what you mean, but within the slot machines, the models are the same, just the textures are different. So having the screen and the rest as seperate objects wouldn't make a difference. If that's what you meant:weird:

It depends how you want us to use your set. If you made just one or two variations of each thing, we wouldn't be able to be very origianl with them. People would just put them in their park quickly and not be able to be extremely creative.
If you made more variations, such as offset and diagonal peices, we can make much more detailed and unique arcades. Every park won't just use them and look exactly the same, as we'll be able to make lots of different layouts.
I wuld prefer it if you made diagonal versions.

I'm thinking now of doing a seperate set called 'Slot Machines' with a selection of variations i.e. some diagonal, some offset. Total maybe 20 objects. This is kind of how the original game scenery was designed with some wallsets with diagonal, some with curves, some without 1/3H etc.

I think Vodhin posted a howto somewhere, but in this case I recommend against it. Peeps would sit on it like on benches, turn to each other and talk and so on, which would probably look odd on these.
There have been many requests for this but i was warned not to for copyright reasons. Still a possibility. Maybe i'll release a disclaimer with this set - 'no responsibility taken and use at your own risk' or something.
I don't think that would protect you. In your place I wouldn't take risks and follow the advice not to make recent or still very popular things.

The problem is, the glass showed up only at some angles of view in the game. And when i zoomed in on it, it crashed the game. A similar problem is happening with the T2 pinball (also includes glass). I tried having the glass as a seperate mesh, and it didn't show up at all. Here you can see, no glass. Help/advice on glass needed!

Awesome! Moby.
just look like penny pusher? It's Quarters Pusher off the edge and win for the tickets. felt like Tilt video games as win a tickets.
How about Skeeball?

Well, did you use cook's findings for glass? Just map on the glass a black texture, and use a black alpha, and make the style glass....I think that's what worked...
EDIT: rideslover, shyguy made skeeballs in Circus center 2...
Thanks Obi. What's 'Cook Findings'? Got a link?
I tried what you said, but the same thing happened. I tried the black alpha with SIAlphaMaskReflection and this is what i got. It's not bad, but not as good as glass. At least it showed up and didn't crash the game. I'll try it with a grey alpha, should show up better.

Oh look like a quarter toss in and push the quarters try to get off the edge if one or two quarters can fell off the edge and you can win and got tickets from machine. I show you the picture look like that.

Whoops, sorry, not Cook, MaxInfinity, here's the thread...it's all explained there...http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=551710&highlight=Glass
Also, I meant SIglass texture style. Try it like that, it should work, if you follow MaxInfinity's thread...

Hooray for Editing!
No update now, but i assure you is still very much alive. Just tweaking objects for optimal performance now. There will be more objects, though (the casino side needs adding to).

Correct! You may now choose your fabulous prize!:p
Thanks for the comments.
Okay here's the deal;
This set is not complete, and some of the current objects aren't perfect. I would like to know how these objects work on different systems, but i don't want loads of people complaining it crashed their game, set their computer on fire and burnt their house down. So, i'm going to hold a little contest of related questions, and the few winners will be able to test this set as it stands. First question coming tomorrow.
Now about progress, i think i am going to remove the Roulette stall and the slot machines and put them in my next set, Moby's Casino Games. This will allow for more pieces in each, including diagonals and offsets. Feedback appreciated.
Also please be aware I am still taking offers. I wont do DDR because of copyright, but i might do an MDR, Moby's Dance Revolution!

I like the idea with the Casino Games as an extra pack.

Are you sure, that your set current set will have this effects? :)
But it's good to know, that you don't just a release your set with a final test.
I'm curious about the question. But I would suggest, that you only allow to send you the answer as PM. If the first one gives the answer inside the thread, the whole quiz is just a fake.

Well, some Qs will be 'whoever gets closest' fashion, and others will be 'first come, first won' fashion. For the first type - the earlier the entry, the more extra points awarded. So don't hang around waiting for others' answers as clues - it wont help. Also any edited answers will lose all extra points.
It will be fair, and it wont be easy.

QUESTION #1
How many polygons are there in the Penny Pusher object?
Note that a polygon in this case is a flat shape, consisting of one or more 3 sided faces - e.g. A cube has 6 polygons.
The closest answer wins most points.
Here's the pic;

Wow, that looks absolutely amazing! Your scenery is looking so realistic I'm amazed that it was only a couple of months ago you were trying to learn how to do it, you've come such a long way. It jut looks so perfect...
And YAY! I won! :D Can I ask where the extra face is on it? Using my knowledge that it was octagonal and realising there were 12 visible faces on each side plus the top and bottom ones I came to 98 (only took me about a minute to work out).
So where is the 99th? :bulb:
Thanks a lot NF
Erm, i'm not sure about the Polys. I counted 84. Computer says no.
