Original Post:
Now i have finished my arcade set (i will update it with proper icons it the future) and have learned to make billboards, i thought i would make a billboard set, i know shyguy is making a whole load of billboards in his circus center set 2, but i am thought id make a set that focuses just on billboards. So far i have only made few things, but i plan on making lots more, any requests and comments will be welcome. So here is a pic:

How about some odd billboards like 3x1, 5x1

I desperately need that billboard floor

shyguy has billaboard floors too. It looks quite nice so far, but some of these things have already or are about to be released. iceacts did a billaboard set that had 1h and 2h pieces already, with double sided variants.

I suggest remaking more of the more frequently used RCT3 billboards, such as 1x1, 2x1, 4x1 (probably the rest as well) without collision detection and no seams. I'd also like to see diagonal versions of them too.

They're the only billboards I would really find useful.

yesnt
11-13-2006, 06:47 PM
@osudenny: Good Idea, i will try that
@birou006: You'll have to wait like everyone else
@coinich: Yea, a few of these things have been done, but i will be doing other things aswell, such as diagonal walls, televisions with the screens turned into billboards, and any requests i will look into.
@-Nuclear Fish-: i will also try that, i suspect most people would find those usefull.

These should be useful! You could try something like a curved billboard and floors and roofs that could fit on those. For making buildings, you know what I mean.

How about curved billboards like cylinders, tunnel tubes with the billboard on the inside, spheres, cones. Oh...and animated door billboards... :D

These look really nice. Can we have a tile floor piece? :)

Zordock (fantasy standing stones set) has figured out... or is figuring out... how to make a floor piece conform to terrain in all four directions. Take a look at his thread and if you could figure out how to get it to work, a completely-terrain-conforming billboard would be great! Laggy maybe, but in moderation we could make our own land textures!

Also, I don't think it would be too hard to make a giant billboard (5*5 or something) for ride backdrops, especially for indoor rides. This would save time and effort needed to piece together billboards we have... and would you believe there aren't any seamless billboards released yet?

-Nuclear Fish-
11-14-2006, 05:43 AM
Could you also possible make the billboards normal wall thickness? At the moment they look 2Dish, and from that picture I can't tell how well they'd work when placed on walls.

yesnt
11-14-2006, 10:34 AM
Those billboards are wall thinckness, 0.2u, i got the measurements of belgabor's facts and figures thread.

Belgabor
11-14-2006, 10:48 AM
I'm sorry, but they look a lot too thin to be 0.2 u. It's hand to say for the wall, but the roof is approximately 1/64 square thick. That's 0.06u.
0.2u is 1/20 square.

yesnt
11-14-2006, 10:52 AM
Oh, sorry, i made them 0.02u by mistake, sorry about that.

yesnt
11-15-2006, 05:12 PM
Sorry for the double post, but i have added a few more peices but i made them before i realised i had done them to thin, i will fix that soon, so here is a pic of everything so far:

OK, since everyone seems to need these so badly, i will make some thicker walls then release what i have done so far, this doesnt meen i will stop work on them, i will still carry on adding more, it just meens that ypu'll all have these billboards that you crave so much. :D

-Nuclear Fish-

I would prefer it if you made more and then released them.

Belgabor
11-16-2006, 05:38 AM
Indeed, don't let anybody rush you. Take your time and release when you're satisfied with it.

The_Cook
11-16-2006, 06:30 AM
I have to concur with Belgabor, take your time to get it right first time. Once a set is out in the wild you can't take it back, and unless you've planned it carefully it's very difficult to change existing pieces since it will screw up peoples parks.

You're pretty much damned either way. If you don't relase quickly the community hates your, if you release too quickly and then have to fix things later the community hates you because you've screwed up their park.

Don't let a bunch of impatient kids pressure you into releasing something before it's right. Similarly, don't let a grumpy old mug like me distract you too much. ;)

The walls are looking good, although you need to change the uv mapping slightly. At the moment the texture is compressed on the quarter tile pieces and the less than full height walls. This means that when you put them alongside full size pieces the textures won't line up and it'll look a bit of a mess.

One other question I've been meaning to ask: are all of these quarter tile placement? Or just the quarter tile ones? Sorry if you've already said.

yesnt

Yea, they are all quater tile placement and no i didnt already say lol.

That is nice of you to release some now. You are doing a great job with this set. I sure they all will come in really handy and will be used by all.

yesnt
11-16-2006, 12:13 PM
I am not sure if i should release what i have done so far, because i want all of you to be happy, but im not finished so i dont want to find out i have made a mistake when its to late, so i have added a poll to allow you to decide. :p

-Nuclear Fish-
11-16-2006, 12:27 PM

Great work on this set yesnt!

While I'd love to eventually have this set to work with, I hope you'll not release it until it's finished. Personally I've gotten tired of all the numerous posts here pleading for people to release stuff early "because I ned it for my park! I ned it reelly bad! My park cant be bilt without them!"

Yeah...right...

yesnt
11-18-2006, 09:17 AM
I havent managed to make the floor conform yet, but i have added loads more peices and made the walls thicker, so here are some pics:

Random sized billboards

Thicker walls, i have made them all thicker, just the're not all shown in the pic

Coaster Freak
11-18-2006, 09:29 AM

Note that full conformance is touchy, it might well not work with billboard floors. It doesn't work for terrain-textured tiles for example.

I doubt it will work with billboards, because as far as I'm aware billboards only appear in the billboards menu, and to have anything full conforming it appears in the flowers menu.

Looks, like the people have spoken, i shall hopefully be releasing a beta pack tomorrow;)

Obi_Wan_Cannoli
11-18-2006, 03:24 PM
NO!! Then people will have to download the next set, and then confusion, and if you have some in your park, you have to fix em', no, just finish the whole set...

Coaster Freak
11-18-2006, 03:26 PM
He put up the pole and thats how it came out. If he puts up the beta pack then ppl can try it out and tell him if any thing is rong with it. At first the pole was winning on NO, But now its YES and its a yes. So Give it a chamce.

yesnt
11-18-2006, 03:28 PM
Too late, its a bit unfair to say ill do whatever the poll says then suddenly decide i dont like the outcome and i will do the opposite, no, the poll has spoken.

EDIT: Coaster Freak beat me to it

-Nuclear Fish-
11-18-2006, 03:30 PM
If it's a BETA pack, he's allowed to make it have problems and even remove everything if he wants. It's the user's own fault if they have to replace everything, seeingas it's only a BETA. Something I should have done with my particle effects... :(

-Nuclear Fish-
11-19-2006, 04:26 PM
They seem pretty good, except for the alignment.

The only one which lined up properly was the standard floor tile. All the others are placed weird. Shouldn't they be aligned to the edge of the tile?

yesnt
11-19-2006, 04:28 PM
Thanks for pointing that out -Nuclear Fish- i will fix that as soon as possible.

-Nuclear Fish-
11-19-2006, 04:46 PM
Yeah, make sure you have the grid turned on so you can see how they align. They seem to be a sixteenth of a tile offset.

UPDATE
Sorry for the lack of updates (i have been busy with exams) but look, here comes an update now:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v661/yesnt/Shot0137.jpg

Incase you didn't guess, thats a television (it's recolourable), because i will be moving on from plain billboards and making ones such as signposts, flags, banners etc. and of course things like that television. :)

I'd edit this update into your last/next post if I were you. Have you not seen Skipper's new thread about double posting? He's deleting any double posts he sees regardless of content. He only posted the thread in the Parks forum, but I think it applies to everywhere.

Anyway, that looks pretty good! I noticed in the Beta set you hadn't included the regular sized billboards (2x1, 2x2, etc) or any large ones. Are these still going to be in the release?

Any news on this set? Today I realised I couldn't use Iceact's 1H billboards how I wanted cause they have collision detection, so I could really do with yours being aligned correctly. There's no rush though, take your time.
