"Spanky's World" is currently a little bit on hold, because I wait for the coaster of my China-area. I'm using the time to play a little bit with Milkshape and try to build my own custom scenery.

I've created the "Bubba Gump"-sign for the scandinavian part of "Spanky's World". Meanwhile, I have resized into a game-compatible size.

http://www.rct-theme-world.de/newpics/bubbasign.jpg

As I played around with Milkshape I had a lot of ideas. Somethin' that I really miss is a signpost:

http://www.rct-theme-world.de/newpics/wegweiser.jpg

I must work on the texture, and I'm not sure, what I will write on the both signs. I think about "Restrooms" on one of the pointers and "Information" on the other. So they are some kind of neutral and can be used anywhere.

Last but not least I've tried to build some walls for a complete set. Any idea what this could be, when it was finished? ;)

http://www.rct-theme-world.de/newpics/gingerbread.jpg

Currently none of this is complete. But I have tested the "Bubba"-sign in the game.

I need some hints:

Is it better to work with mirrored textures in Milkshape or can I leave the textures correct? My "Bubba"-texture was mirrored as I imported the sign in the game. I have seen, that Vodhin use mirrored textures for his objects.

How can I use Alpha Textures in Milkshape? Any link for helpful informations?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Looks good, Spanky! the Bubba-Gump sign will come in handy. That last item...Gingerbread houses!

Looking good. Perhaps you could make the signpost as a billboard?

Well, Spanky, I've never used mirrored textures before, I'm sure if you just set them to mirror it'll work...Also, try Milkshape's web page for turorials and such...also, For alpha textures, you can assign the actual texture of the Alpha on the object, it doesn't matter as it's only to map it correctly. Then, when importing, when creating a texture, make the texture the object's texture, and for alpha, put in the alpha....I'm sure Belgabor's home page in his sig has much more info you might wanna look over....

BTW: Gingerbread Houses?

Mirroring: You should use a MirrorZ model transformation matrix for MS files, this should get rid of the mirrored textures (in fact you whole model is mirrored, not only the texture).
Sign: How about making the post one item and the actual signs another one each? That way every user can build his/her own =)

Awesome stuff, Spanky.

What about making the pointers on that sign-post into billboards?

looking good, the last pic, the wall section would be a great start to an Ice Cream Parlour or a Willy Wonka type ride.

the sign post it would be great as Belgador suggested, make the sign and the post seperat, and as errt said, make the sign bit a billboard, so peeps can ad there own ride names or shop names to them.

Thumbs up from me

Thanks for your kind coments about my first CS-tries. I like the billboard-idea for the signs very much and will se, if i can manage this.

Looks like the solution for the last picture was to easy. Off course, you're all have the correct answer. I work on a gingerbread-house.

Here's small update:

http://www.rct-theme-world.de/newpics/gingerbread2.jpg

The picture shows an 1H-wall with cream-decoration, an 3H-wall, an 1H-wall with coloured choco-pills (in Germany they called "Smarties") and an 4H Candy-Post.

Could anyone tell me, how I can repeat the texture on the object in milkshape? That's all for today.

More soon ...

Umm... You need to go into the uv map and dink it there, by stretching the uv map for those faces to larger than the texture, at which point MS will automactically tile the texture.

It looks very nice! A gingerbread-house was a very good idea!

Nice work there Spanky! I like that sign post - handy for realtic parks. Would be good if you could make them just one arrow and allow them to be billboards. Then make addition arrows that act like billboards to make them board in various directions. But, as your only starting we can't expect too much. I admire any one who can create CS - they make the game more realistic

Well done :)

If you put the post exactly on the corner and use quarter tile placement you actually need only one direction for the sign. All others can be achieved by putting it rotated in adjacent tiles. Rather make a few variants with tiny angular differences, lengths and heights.

Belagbors idea is great. I just make the post for the corner and make the pointers as billboards. This allows also a varity of pointers. But at the moment I'm totally occupied with the gingerbread-house. The problem is that I always need always a complete new model for every new item.

Before modelling:
http://ayalogue.cocolog-nifty.com/ayas_journal/images/Hexenhaus.jpg

After modelling:
http://www.foolforfood.de/media/kekskruemel.jpg

I have added the first window-wall (3H) and an gumdrop (at the bottom of the candy-cone), which was currenty untextured.
http://www.rct-theme-world.de/newpics/gingerbread3.jpg

Any wall has just 12 polygons. The sugar-cream over the window and on the 1H-wall looks very 3D, but it's totally flat. I hope it has the same 3D-effect in the game. (Not tested yet). I want add an alpha texture to the wall with the window, so the peeps can see through it. Hopefully I get that baked. (german phrase :))

Comments are always welcome.

Looks great! I can't wait to use these myself.

This looks really good, Spanky...

Maybe you could make the "sugar-cream" into separate objects, so that not everyone's gingerbread houses look the same...

And the Smarties too, perhaps... Recolourable small circles would be nice to have to many other things...

Just thoughts... I know you're new to all this CS-creation stuff and I don't mean to flood you with requests or anything... Hmmm...:D ...

Thanks El Toro, thanks Magnum;

I have think the same about the sugar cream. I need it anyhow later for fences, so I can make it as a seperate wall too. The smarties are seperate objects. I have placed them on a simple 1H-gingerbread wall. The smartis are geospheres, but the invisilbe site is open, because i have removed the invisble faces. I hope I can manage that, too make them recolourable.

Currently I play more around with milkshape, as I concentrate myself on the finished objects. I really want to learn more about milkshape and find out a lot of interesting things in the past days. I think, that I first should know the basic of the program and learn to create a basic-set, before I start to learn how to import the objects in the game.

I have reworked the window-wall. I added the transparency with an .png-texture. The problem for me is, that I don't know, if I can use this .png-texture in the importer or if I need an seperate alpha-texture. If not, I hope, we could with one of the next updates.

Nothing special, but for me an important step.

Spanky, this ginger bread house looks gorgeous!
About the png texture, I am not too sure. As far as I know you have to use a indexed bmp texture for normal textures, the png is only used for icons.
Just create a black/grey texture that matches your first one. In the importer you directly have the option to import the alpha texture.
Hope this helps.

Belgabor

Indeed it is as Luckygirl says. The background is that the ovls store icon textures and model textures with transparency differently, ie the icon texture is converted with transparency into a special compressed format and model textures are basically 1:1 of the grayscale alpha texture and the indexed color texture.
I may add support for png transparency, but don't hold your breath. I may do this in the next big refurbishment when I plan to add some more model texture processing.
