As far as I know, public betas aren't generally made for consoles. Well, except for Halo 3, but that's the only one I've ever heard of.

You actually have it pretty much backwards. There generally aren't public betas for 360 games because of the retarded way Microsoft handles its Live and quality control services.

Atari just finished a public beta for Test Drive Unlimited on the PS2.

I got one, and I'd love to test a game for the Wii that is not released yet. Maybe Nintendo will let some people test upcoming Wii channels, because that would be so dang cool.

It's not often you see a beta for a console. Most console titles are tested in the office by the companies hired Q/A Testers. Don't get me wrong I have seen console public betas before and I do think it would be a good idea. The testers accepted would be able to download the builds, but I don't think you'll see anything like that no time soon.

Nintendo does not beta test for bugs and general gameplay issues.
They only test for game breaking problems. In fact, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all treat it like this. If the game doesn't break, they don't provide feedback to the publisher or developer.

And this is actually incorrect. When publishers submit games to the first parties, there is a lengthy submission process involved. Part of which are technical checks and functionality checks. Believe me, they almost always send bug reports whether the game passes compliance or not. :)

cool, sounds like the story I was going off of was just someone covering their own butt then.
Reports get submitted, but its still up to the developer if they want to follow up:haha:
