I have seen some advertising about it, but I know nothing about this anime. I have heard the key character is a guy named Alucard.

Anyone got some comments on this anime?

Hellsing is awesome! The story is very good, the music is good and the characters are really cool.
It has some cool fights like the Alucard vs Incognito
I recommend this anime to everyone:p

Oh and if you haven't noticed, try reading Alucard backwords ;)

draculA is pretty cool. I've never seen him fight, or the anime Hellsing, but I do have this one sick avatar. I hear the english dub is better than the original japanese dub.

I mentioned in the Anime Discussion Thread on the Godzilla portion of the message board, that I bought & watched it.

It is a short series, just 13 episodes. It also is pretty violent & bloody.

The main characters are:

Sir Integra Wingates Hellsing, the female head of the Hellsing orginization (not sure why they call her a "Sir")

Seras Victoria, a police officer who gets involved with the Hellsing orginization after encountering Alucard. She also makes a choice to become a vampire, and is the servant of Alucard. Although at first she refuses to drink blood (which is supplied by a medical facility).

Alucard, a mysterious and very powerful vampire, who was somehow captured & made into a servant of the Hellsing family. BTW the Alucard name is just a name given to him by Integra's father, so it might be another famous vampire (hint spell Alucard backwards).

The Hellsing orginization is not the only vampire hunters on Earth, there is also the Iscariot part of the Vatican. They send their hunter Paladin Alexander Anderson to England.

Cause England is the source of a new scourge of vampires. This scourge is not a normal scourge, it is a technological scourge. There is a chip that causes vampire-like abilities and hunger in humans. It also gives the psudo-vampires the ability to create ghouls, after draining humans of blood they become zombie like creatures that serve their "vampire" masters.

Also a true vampire shows up as well, he is also under the control of the humans, who are making the "chip". His name, as he gives it, is Incognito, he is also very powerful.

For some reason, the vampires Alucard & Incognito like to fight with guns. And Alucard's guns look kind of similar to Vash the Stampede's guns in Trigun (big & powerful).

The series is being remade currently as Hellsing Ultimate, the series I am discussing is the Studio Gonzo release that they did in 2001. They did not wait until the end of the Manga to finish the series, which is why it is short. The new series will tell the entire story.

I picked the entire 13 episode series at Best Buy for $30 (It was the last one though, so you might need to find it elsewhere).

The original series also only follows the manga up until around episode 8. Incognito doesn't exist at all in the manga.

The new series, Hellsing Ultimate is being produced by the manga author and follows it much more closely (and is a lot more violent in parts too.)

Oops, forgot to mention that one of the songs during the big battle near the end of the Gonzo series features some very familiar sounding roars (Godzilla & King Ghidorah).
