This is to make known some of the things that should be in-effect here to help us ensure we have a good forum, and continue to enjoy the community here at Atari.
Though these are not all the rules, but more may be added over time. For updates to this, take notice of the UPDATED date in the thread subject line.
FLAMING:
Flaming is an attack of some sort on another forum member and is greatly not encouraged here. Making a flame post is to be offensive, threatening, or highly vulgar towards another member and is done with the intent to draw another member (or members) into a disruptive & argumentive confrontation.
This is up to the discretion of the Moderator to decide if a post is considered a flame. Though it is advisable if you view such a post (or posts) to send a PM or "report post" message to your moderator if such a situation as described is occuring. If a post is deemed a flame, it will be deleted and the poster will be put on alert and possibly even warned. Repeat offenses can result in a ban from the community. Of course if you feel your post was inappropriately judged, then contact your moderator via email or PM. Do not make a thread on the forum to discuss the matter as it will be promptly deleted.
SPAMMING:
Spamming is a category where posts are identified as having been made with the sole intent of increasing post count, or either not adding to the value of the discussion. This is extremely frowned upon.
Types of posts that could be considered as Spamming are: one word posts, posting just smilieys, making many repeated posts one after another (example - double or triple posting minutes apart), and posting the same exact thing in various threads. Again, this is up to the Moderator to decide if someone is spamming or not.
Any posts that are deemed as spam will be deleted and the poster warned and or banned if this is a reoccurring problem. Anyone that feels that their post was not a spam should contact your Moderator via email or the PM system. Do not start a thread in the forum to discuss it. It will be promptly deleted.
Strong Word Usage (Profanity):
Eventhough a filter is in place to screen out certain words, let's not take the opportunity to bypass it with symbols and spaces to confuse the screening process. Such an example would be a slang reference for "your rump" (get my drift) and other words. It would be a good measure to change around the way you express some ideas so that it doesn't look like "a cursing post" (also known as swearing).
This is to keep the community friendly and to keep things appropriate for the younger members and even parents who post with them in the community.
When posting, if a certain abbreviation looks too similar to an inappropriate word, don't use the abbreviation, but spell the word (or words) out entirely. We don't want to give a false impression in the forum.
Other Gaming Forums:
There are even movie and game specific forums where you may be posting in addition to visiting here. It is ok to talk about other forums as long as it is kept respectful and appropriate. If you were banned at another site or you have had problems with someone from another site, then you need to discuss the problem with the staff at that particular site. Bringing a vent or rant from the other forum will not be accepted here. Posts that do so will be immediately deleted, and you may be warned for "general poor behavior".
Bootlegs & Advertising
Some of you have created forums or have friends that have created forums and are interested in building the base of members. Regarding the promotion of forums and certain sites in particular, making threads and such is a distraction to the community. Posting such threads leads to taking away from the discussion, and also reading of the topics that are active at the time. It is observed in the forums here at Atari that these types of threads are not permitted. What can be done is to indicate the forum in your Signature. In doing so, it must be a modest announcement, in that you do not have excessive colored fonts or smileys.
Please do not post the name, address or website details to any bootleg dealer.
Not interested in ‘free Ipods’ or any thing like that, advertising also includes giving links to sites which have "for profit" intentions.
Treat Members With Respect:
There will be a lot of new people here looking for information or just posting in general. Though some may make errors in spelling or grammar, please be polite. If you provide any data as a reply to posts please do it nicely. If you encounter an odd situation where you feel that the member is being outright offensive with their posts, or annoying give notice by "reporting the post".
Don't Go Severely Offtopic
Thread drift is normal, but we shouldn't have a long side conversation going on in a thread, and taking it into other threads is not good either.
Everyone should have fun, but be mindful that too much offtopic chatter distracts the thread. If you want to do a lot of personal conversation, then use the PMs and instant messengers for that. You may also have other equipment like web cams or microphones to have a more engaging experience.
Other Topics Not Allowed Here:
Trolling – Deliberately posting material with the intention of causing trouble. This includes posting false information for jokes & pranks.
Sex – Discussions of sexuality, sexual politics, and sexual news are not allowed in the forum. We are not "M" rated.
False Atari Claims - In order to avoid confusion, it is forbidden to make false claims about being an employee of Atari, or a moderator.
As with all rules, these rules have been set and are enforced. The final interpretation is held by the moderators and administrators.
Again welcome to the Atari Anime/Manga/Comics board! :)
Feel free to PM if you have questions.
