I will endeavor to relate my G-Fest experiences and use the pics as illustrations. I arrived in Chicago on Wednesday, July 5 and immediately checked in to my room at the Motel 6 in Arlington Heights. Yes, I could have stayed at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare but the rooms were more expensive and would have hampered my spending for the event. One of the first things I did was to go to the Mitsuwa Marketplace less than 1 block away!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_1023.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_1023.jpg)

While there, I went to the Asahiya Bookstore, purchased 4 Godzilla books, and was told that there was a Japanese Toy Store about 1 block away! I went there but found that it was closed. *sigh* I went out to eat and tried to check out the Crowne Plaza O'Hare for G-Fest activities but found that nothing would be happening until the next day. Well, that was a waste of time and gas!

On Thursday, July 6th, I decided to make a return trip to the Japanese Toy Store but found that it was still closed. For Pete's sake, this is G-Fest time. Why would they want to skip town? After eating at Denny's, I decided to go back to the Crowne Plaza O'Hare and helped some of the dealer's transport their stock into the dealer's room. With this done, I decided to volunteer my services in Minya's Room. One of these activities was to decorate the doors.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0911.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0911.jpg)

Other activities included helping to decorate the ceiling and walls and with the setup of a maze (black tiles in the background). As time passed, kids begin to show up and participate in the games and crafts.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0910.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0910.jpg)

Among the games were Kaiju Twister (seen on the floor in the second pic), the King Ghidorah ring toss, and GINO dart game.

Yes, I did participate with the kids in the KG ring toss. I couldn't resist.

As the evening wore on, 2 of the guests of honor arrived!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0908.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0908.jpg)

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0909.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0909.jpg)

Yoshikazu Ishii and Robert Scott Field talked with the kids and later sat down to enjoy one of the 14 pizzas and countless pepsi products that were ordered as refreshment. Normally, I don't drink carbonated drinks but even I grabbed a few. Due to the fact that Ishii-san wasn't fluent in the English language and Robert Scott Field knew Japanese, Field acted as an interpreter. Both were gracious enough to donate their time to our questions and I learned a lot from the experience. Field had other business to attend to and left earlier than Ishii-san who helped John Lees, Stan Hyde and I put the finishing touches on the maze. Even with all of the people that showed up, there were still at least 4 2-Liters, 10 cans of pop, and 1 pizza left (which Ishii-san claimed laughingly). Earlier he had helped John, Stan, David, and I transport the maze boards from John's truck into the building. That elevator was quite an experience and caused some comical moments including a button mashing session reminiscent of what you might expect in a G:STE tournament. LOL
Well, my first full day involving G-Fest activites had come to a close (at around 2:45 AM) and a full day it was!

I will continue tomorrow with more pics and dialog.

Very persuasive the way you told the story with the pics, and they are well selected shots for the story as well.

Bravo!!! :)

I can't wait to see the rest of the story/pics.

Yeah, that's the only time that I have wanted to ring KG's neck. :haha: Did I just say that?

Well, back to G-Fest:

Friday began with another trip to Denny's for breakfast. I started to go back to the Japanese Toy Store and check to see if they were open but thought better of it. I found an easier way to get to the Crowne Plaza and arrived shortly before noon to register. From there, I went to the Main Hall to watch an indie film named "Raki vs Gramuda". It was an interesting film but I decided to volunteer some more time at Minya's Room before it completely finished. At 2PM, the first of 4 G-Pardy games was played and I decided to attend. Now G-Pardy is just like Jeopardy except that all of the topics involve Godzilla. The video monitor added to the realistic feel of this game and made watching the game an enjoyable experience. The next 2 1/2 hours would either find me in the Video Gaming Room participating in the 18-player tournament.....

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0920.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0920.jpg)

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0919.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0919.jpg)

...or roaming from room to room, soaking in all of the sights.

Since I didn't have a watch, I ended up being late to Robert Scott Field's M-11's Eye on Japan session (where he discussed what he was doing in Japan and what Japan's recent trends were). Shortly before 6 PM, I made the trip down the hall toward the dealer's room. There was an extremely long line but, since I was a volunteer, I was allowed to go to the front with the other volunteers.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0918.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0918.jpg)

Finally, the time arrived and I was able to go in and do some shopping! The first table (on your right) as you go in was John Lee's table. Among the items for sale were Godzilla coffee mugs, Godzilla T-shirts, and, of course, the current G-Fan magazine. At the next table, Monsters Direct had stuff for sale. Most of merchandise featured involved figures, but there were posters as well. One of the eye-catching items was the Final Wars Gigan figure. Gigan 12345, this pic is for you especially. :D

Unfortunately, I am limited to 10 images per post and will show more pics of the dealer's room when I continue my Friday experiences tomorrow (or perhaps sooner if someone else posts in the interim...I like to avoid double-posting if possible).

Hey I tried the Ghidora ring toss 3 times and I missed 3 times ahhhh it aint easy getting a ring around one of Ghidoras heads. I also tried the Godzilla dart board now that was fun. I just went into the Minya room to see what was going on. This is the 2nd year the Minya room had a maze. The best dealer at G-Fest for really good deals on vinyl figures was Applause INC owned by Scott Horton. I bought a bandai 1964 adult Mothra w/box priced at $100 and Scott sold it to me for $85. Clawmark has the same figure at $190. I think I am the only guy at G-Fest who bought a Bandai Super Final Premium Godzilla and i made the deal before friday. When the dealers room opened friday at 6:30pm nobody had that figure for sale damn I feel lucky!!! My friend Ryan Smith bought one of the Gamera skot machines for $250.

Speaking of Applause Inc. and their Gamera slot machines........Next to Monsters Direct, on the side wall, was Applause Inc. One of the first things that the buyer notices when viewing their items is the Ultraman display and the 2 Gamera slot machines.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ApplausePic1.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ApplausePic1.jpg)

I was amazed at the amount of stock that Applause brought with them. Their stock seemed to be comprised only of figures, mostly Godzilla film kaiju....

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ApplausePic2.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ApplausePic2.jpg)

....but also some Gamera...

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ApplausePic5.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ApplausePic5.jpg)

and even the kaiju from Warning from Outer Space!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ApplausePic7.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ApplausePic7.jpg)

Next to Applause was another massive display of Godzilla eiga set up by Clawmark Toys.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ClawmarkPic3.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ClawmarkPic3.jpg)

Although Clawmark has a lot of figures, their stock was also comprised of trading cards, some posters, and many other novelties. Due to crowd problems, I was unable to get any pictures of their other stock.

I will continue this tour of the dealer's room in a little while. :D

Ah KG, you got some pics of Gyaos.

Yes, the Gamera movie figures were also present.

Speaking of Gamera, the next dealer (on the back wall) was Cool Stuff. Most of his stock was comprised of figures (but there were also a few trading cards as well).

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_CoolStuffPic1.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/CoolStuffPic1.jpg)

Although one of my favorite figures among the vast array offered was that of Hedorah, Ultraman and Gamera were also represented.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_CoolStuffPic5.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/CoolStuffPic5.jpg)

Of course, Gamera foes were also available.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_CoolStuffPic3.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/CoolStuffPic3.jpg)

Ultraman foes also made an appearance.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_CoolStuffPic2.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/CoolStuffPic2.jpg)

In fact, not even the shelves could escape the onslaught of Ultraman eiga!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_CoolStuffPic6.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/CoolStuffPic6.jpg)

A quick glance at the tables used by the next vendor, Extreme Collectibles, revealed an abundance of Gamera movie figures.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ExtremeCollectiblesPic2.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ExtremeCollectiblesPic2.jpg)

The high grade figures attracted my attention and featured not only Gamera but Godzilla figures as well.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ExtremeCollectiblesPic4.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ExtremeCollectiblesPic4.jpg)

The stock at Extreme Collectibles was not confined to vinyl and resin figures alone; books...

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ExtremeCollectiblesPic3.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ExtremeCollectiblesPic3.jpg)

and plush dolls were also subjects of interest.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ExtremeCollectiblesPic1.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ExtremeCollectiblesPic1.jpg)

Trading cards for GFW were available and, needless to say, I took advantage of the opportunity. I will supply some pics of those cards when I update made trading cards thread. Later today, I will continue the tour of the G-Fest dealer's room. Until then, take care.

Hey Godzilla '08, tell us about your experience and show us some pics of what you saw if possible.

Continuing with the tour....

Next to Extreme Collectibles was another dealer whose name escapes me but here are pics of his wares.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0963.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0963.jpg)

Although the stock consisted mostly of figures, Godzilla trading cards could be found in abundance (3 Notebooks full!) as well.

The next dealer, on the left wall, was DVD World. As the name suggests, the vast majority of stock was composed of movies....

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_DVDWorldPic1.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/DVDWorldPic1.jpg)

but figures were also present.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_DVDWorldPic2.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/DVDWorldPic2.jpg)

These figures were interesting although I am not sure what movie they were involved in.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_DVDWorldPic4.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/DVDWorldPic4.jpg)

The dealer's room was not devoid of apparel as evidenced by the stock of the next dealer, Aardvark Screenprinting.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_AardvarkScreenprinting.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/AardvarkScreenprinting.jpg)

The tour of the dealer's room will continue shortly with Chibi Goji Toys. I hope everyone is enjoying the tour! :D

LOTS of Stuff!!! Maybe I should have went....when the heck is next years???

I believe we can expect the next G-Fest to occur from July 6-8 at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare. G-Fest is under contract to the Crowne Plaza for 1 more year and then, who knows what will happen after that.
The tour continues......

Next to Aardvark Screenprinting are the tables operated by Chibi Goji Toys. As one might expect, there are plenty of figures to catch the eye.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ChibiGojiToysPic1.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ChibiGojiToysPic1.jpg)

Gamera figures also make an appearance....

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ChibiGojiToysPic5.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ChibiGojiToysPic5.jpg)

...as does this little promo for the newest Gamera movie.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ChibiGojiToysPic6.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ChibiGojiToysPic6.jpg)

Glow-in-the-dark Godzilla figures were also available for purchase and even items like self-promotional dolls and mugs.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ChibiGojiToysPic3.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ChibiGojiToysPic3.jpg)

In fact, Chibi Goji Toys was the only vendor that gave out free items! Granted, they were self-promotional items but they were free! The variety of stock continues with posters, apparel (most sold by the time this pic was taken), and trading cards(not pictured). Sorry about the blur. *sigh*

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_ChibiGojiToysPic4.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/ChibiGojiToysPic4.jpg)

Truly there was a variety of items to be had at Chibi Goji Toys!

In the far right corner was a vendor who never did tell me the name of his shop. We joked around a lot so the name never managed to surface. He did allow me to take pictures of his stock however. Comprised mostly of figures, this booth was actually run by two vendors from St. Louis. As you can see, Ultraman and Godzilla figures were abundant despite the small space.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0979.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0979.jpg)

Most vendors did not have that many Bullmark figures but there was quite a selection here.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0979.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0979.jpg)

A few figures in particular caught my eye. Although I would have liked to have these figures, money was running a little low, so I had to pass. *sigh*

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0982.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0982.jpg)

Figures weren't the only mentionables though. Trading cards and posters were also present as were comics and copies of G-Fan magazine.

The journey will continue shortly.......

when is the next G-fest?

The next G-Fest should occur from July 6th thru 8th at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare in Chicago.

Next to the corner booth, located next to the entrance, was a vendor with more than 5 tables of kaiju merchandise: Monsterland Toys. Although there were a lot of movies for sale, figures were also readily available.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_MonsterlandToysPic1.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/MonsterlandToysPic1.jpg)

The majority of figures involved Godzilla and his foes....

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_MonsterlandToysPic3.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/MonsterlandToysPic3.jpg)

...but other Japanese figures and kaiju also enjoyed some of the limelight.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_MonsterlandToysPic2.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/MonsterlandToysPic2.jpg)

Besides the larger figures, high grade kaiju were in abundance as well.(though I have no pics of them). Though the dealers around the periphery constitute the majority of items, they are, by no means, the only dealers to be seen. In the center of the room is an interior circle of vendors that also add to the variety. As you walk through the dealer's room doors, the vendor straight in front of you is Musashi Enterprises. If you are looking for high grade figures, this is the dealer to go to! The display case can attest to this...

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_MusashiPic5.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/MusashiPic5.jpg)

as can the bins of capsuled figures. The blue bin (upper left in next pic) contained a figure that I had been searching for on ebay for months, Jet Jaguar. The prices on ebay were nearly $20 for this high grade figure. However, I only paid $5 and got the last one! Apparently my timing was perfect because less than 5 minutes after I made the purchase, another collector came up and asked for him! *Whew, that was close*

Musashi's stock did not end with high grades; there were also larger figures, model kits, and Gamera & Godzilla trading cards (upper right corner of next pic in plastic bins).

The next 2 dealers, facing the right wall, were Max Toys and Oriental Cinema. Unfortunately, I was not able to take pics of their stock. Facing the back wall, was the table for Robert Conte (from Comic Images) and a company (whose name escapes me) that was doing a survey involving figures from Godzilla. Their plan is to create figures with authentic roars and sell them in pairs to create a set. I was asked numerous questions, the first of which was to name my top 5 kaiju. LOL One of my first threads on this forum was "Your top 5". They asked my favorite movie as well and asked which 3 kaiju did I think needed to be represented more often. I know that I put Titanosaurus and Gezora but can't remember the third. Oh well, If they put out the wrong figures, you can blame it on me. :p The tour will continue soon with Radioactive Toys.

Hey Moshi, if you show me a pic of your Gamera, I will tell you if I saw it at G-Fest.

...and now we will continue with the tour....

The next vendor you see while continuing around the inner circle is Radioactive Toys. Unfortunately, I was unable to take any pics but can tell you that their stock consisted mostly of figures from Godzilla movies. The vast array of them made seeing the tabletop rather difficult.
Continuing around, the next dealer that you see is K-9 Toys. From figures and books to model kits and posters, this dealer had quite a variety of items. Jiras and other Ultraman kaiju were available as well as Gamera and the usual suspects: Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah.

Along with the aforementioned stock, chess pieces,...

...SD figures, SD dioramas,....

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_K9ToysPic2.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/K9ToysPic2.jpg)

and even this odd grocery item were present.

The next dealer is a familiar name with all of the local kaiju fans: Asahiya Bookstore. Along with the obvious stock of books, Asahiya also boasts a wide array of music CD's and Godzilla movie soundtracks. Some of this merchandise would find it's way to the dealer's room.

The next dealer in the spotlight will be Kaiju Modeler. :D

Here is the Medicom Gamera, tagged as ToTo the teen aged Gamera.
While this is not in the vein of traditional "realistic" looking Kaiju, I can't get enough of the cartoony looking imports. I wish I could find a Godzilla or Ultraman in a design like Gamera; and come on medicom makes some of the BEST import toys next to Bandai.

Uh huh, I am just WAITING for someone to say "Hey that looks like a Pokemon" Grrrrr~

And now, to continue the tour.....

Next to Asahiya is our last seller, Kaiju Modeler.

Of course, with a name like Kaiju Modeler, one can expect a lot of model kits and model displays. One of the eye-catching models was one of Mechani-Kong.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_KaijuModelerPic1.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/KaijuModelerPic1.jpg)

The Rodan model was also impressive in it's detail....

and these other models, one of which is Varan.

Some of the smaller models also received excellent treatment although some, like the Gabara models were unfinished.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_KaijuModelerPic8.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/KaijuModelerPic8.jpg)

The most impressive piece of all was this diorama, which acted as the centerpiece of Kaiju Modeler's booth display.

Finished models weren't the only items up for sale. For those that want to try their hand at modeling, KM also had boxed kits.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_KaijuModelerPic6.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/KaijuModelerPic6.jpg)

The time had come for me to depart from the dealer's room and so I left to attend the kaiju swap meet. Unfortunately, I had spent so much time in the dealer's room that I missed all but the last few minutes of the session. By the time I arrived, the packing-up process was about to get underway so I was unable to trade at that time. Disappointed, I decided to go to the video gaming room to sign up for the tournament. Unfortunately, though I was able to register, the disappointment continued as I was unable to practice with anyone due to the crowd of participants already playing. I called "winner" on one of the games only to hear that the video gaming room was about to be shut down. *sigh* Meanwhile, a clip of Godzilla:Zero Hour was being shown in the room next door. Yeah, you guessed it...I missed it completely. Thankfully, I did get to go to the opening ceremonies that followed even though the pics, one of which I will show next time, were too dark. After the opening ceremonies were completed, I opted to head back to my motel where I unleashed some unbridled fury on Orga, Godzilla, and the other kaiju in my quest to ready myself for the next day's tournament. Thus ended Friday's events but the promise of Saturday lay before me.......

Saturday began at McDonald's where I ate breakfast and proceeded on to the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Unfortunately, breakfast had caused me to be a little late but I still arrived in time to view the pairings for the G:STE tournament and mentally prepare myself for battle. Since my first battle was at 2:10 PM, I had time to spare. Most of this "spare time" was spent watching other contestants play and thus, stressing myself out in the process. After over an hour and a half of tense game observing, I realized that I was late to the Ultraman Tribute being held next door (Main Hall). By the time I got there, the tribute was almost over. The only thing I remember is a spoof video being played to a song called "Beans in their ears" LOL Obviously I had missed the informative lecture.

At 1PM, a swap meet hosted by Randy Giesey was held downstairs in the Haneda Room. Although the turnout could have been better, I did some card trading and even purchased a set (The Legends of Godzilla) and part of another [Konami Booster set Vol 1 (G vs MG)]. After the swap meet ended (2 PM), I rushed over to the Video Game room to do battle with my first opponent whose name was Daniel. He decided to be player 1 and chose Moguera while I was player 2 with KG (of course LOL ). The battle started out well with some "neck moves", causing my opponent to back off quite a bit. When he did so, I charged my triple lightning and shocked him. Due to the fact that he didn't block (He tried to get behind some buildings but didn't quite make it), he got nailed with the full force of the beams which knocked his bar down by about 50%! By this time, he was hanging on by a thread and was just trying to get away. I feel bad about it now but I mercilessly shocked him again, ending the first game. The second game saw him make a few more moves but never putting any real combos together (he only used a few weapons in his arsenal and never used the grenades). I tried a few different tactics but was getting nowhere so I reverted back to the "neck and shock technique" and managed to grind it out. After that game, I was spent and decided to go back downstairs to the video room (not to be confused with the video game room) , where Wraith of Daimajin was being played. Before I could get through the door, I noticed some Godzilla fans in the hall and engaged them in a lengthy conversation. One of the fans (whose name eludes me) was from Atlanta and I found out that his favorite kaiju was King Ghidorah!!! Needless to say, we had quite an interesting conversation! I would have talked with both of them longer but had to go back to the video game room to see who I would be playing the next round. By the time I entered the threshold of the game room, it was about 3:30. I looked on the schedule and, for a moment, I panicked. Right next to my name, 3:00 was typed! I was the first one scheduled in the second round. Fortunately, my opponent was named "bye". Whew! I was about to leave when I heard the dreaded words "Don't leave yet. One of the participants doesn't have an opponent. We may need you." When I saw who it was, my heart began to sink. I remember thinking to myself that I had two choices: 1. Stay there and hope that his opponent shows up or.....2. Run like the wind when the guy's back is turned. The second option looked so good and I was honestly contemplating it.......but then, I was told that I would be needed as an opponent for Luke, who was last year's runner-up. Crestfallen, I dragged myself over to the computer and sat down in the other chair. Luke decided to be player 2 and requested that we each tell the guy in charge our kaiju in secret. Unfortunately, he heard me say King Ghidorah and chose to be Orga. The cards were definitely stacked against me in this one. Surprisingly, though everything is a blur now, I do remember making the first game a challenge for him in a losing cause. Then I opened my big mouth and stated that it was "surprising that I did that well without blocking". I got mauled in that game. LOL He timed his moves and, by the end of the game, he still had about 90% health. Helplessness immediately gave way to acceptance as I shook his hand and wished him well. Other than a short stint in the dealer's room (where I picked up the Jet Jaguar, Godzilla 2004, and Ebirah HG figures) and the autograph session (where I had my picture taken with Robert Scott Field, Yoshikazu Ishii, and Kazuki Omori),.....

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0929.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0929.jpg)

I would spend most of the next 1 1/2 hours in the game room watching the winners advance. After the winners in the adult division had been crowned,.....

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0931.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0931.jpg)

...there was about 1 hour of down time.

This was the perfect time for "Raki" to show up. As I was leaving the video game room, I heard someone play Ifikube's Godzilla theme music on a piano. Raki strode up and said (he is a talking kaiju), "That's not how you do it. Let me show you." As he proceeded to strike a discordant set of notes, I chuckled to myself. After he got through pecking the keys, he exclaimed, "You must have broken it!" What a ham! We talked for a little while as Raki continued to ham-it-up. Occasionally, a camera would flash as his picture was being taken and Raki would fake dizziness and grope at the air. One of those pictures was the one I took.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0932.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0932.jpg)

After about an hour had elapsed, the time had come for the G-Pardy Final which was held in the Main Hall(7 PM). This would last close to an hour though it was so fun trying to "play along" that the time just flew by. Immediately afterward was the Costume Parade. Where I managed to get these pics:

There were a couple of Godzilla costumes being worn......

as well as this impressive Gigan creation among others.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0939.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0939.jpg)

The festivities continued with the showing of some amateur kaiju videos. The creative talent behind those entries was amazing!!! The filming techniques spanned the gamut, from time lapse and claymation to live action and more. This was one of my favorite events on the G-Fest schedule! Following the amateur videos was the presentation of Negadon, a kaiju film composed exclusively with CGI. The movie was entertaining toward the end but had a slowly evolving plot that dragged a little. After Negadon, there was another down time of close to 2 hours. In the meantime, I was invited to join about 15 other G-fans for a meal at Giordano's, an Italian eatery. I had planned to eat at McDonald's but, after a little coaxing, got into their van and we left. Since the pizza was quite expensive, I opted for a less expensive (but expensive nonetheless) hamburger and side salad. I also sampled the appetizers which consisted of zucchini, squid, mozzarella sticks, and other mouth-watering items. Embarrassment was the dessert as I gazed in my wallet and found that my money had been left in my car. Thankfully, the family in charge of organizing the trip to Giordano's decided to help me out with the promise to pay them back (which I almost forgot to do). The remaining down time was spent talking with other fans. Once the time had elapsed, the big moment loomed ahead....the showing of Gamera: Little Braves at the Pickwick Theater.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/th_100_0927.jpg (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a334/BTread/G-Fest%202006/100_0927.jpg)

After enjoying the movie, I left for my motel. As I was driving back, I felt the urge to get something sweet. After a few failed attempts to find a Wal-Mart and a series of aggravating backtracking maneuvers, I was determined. I was going to find some doughnuts and that was that. Victory was at hand when I spotted a 24 hour Dunkin Donut shop 1 block from my motel *sigh* and believe me, victory tasted good. LOL As I buried my face in the powdery goodness, my thoughts drifted from the day's events to what the next day would hold. So, feeling tired, I excavated my face from the doughnuts and went to bed.

More pics to come!
