I remember my first exposure to "The Guyver" was back in the 1990s seeing a live action film (Mark Hamil known as Luke Skywalker of Star Wars fame was also in it) where the Guyver went up against humans who transformed into Zoanoids, which are beings from other planets. Essentially the movie looked like a sophisticated version of Power Rangers, with far better suits and effects on a serious scale.
I will come back with some pics and movie info more in depth.
Though today I bought at Deep Discount DVD the anime volume 1. These are the details:

The classic 1980s sci-fi anime series THE GUYVER receives a contemporary makeover with this 2005 remake crafted by the creative masterminds behind BUBBLEGUM CRISIS, GODDANNAR, and RAHXEPHON. Based on Yoshiki Takaya's popular manga, the series still centers on a normal high-school student who is thrust into an epic battle of good and evil when he stumbles upon a suit of alien robot armor that transforms him into a powerful mechanized warrior. But the remake aims to follow in a more modernist tradition with stunningly stylized animation and character designs as well as amped-up levels of violence and gore. Gearing up to appeal to a whole new generation of anime fans, the remake kicks off with this collection of the series' first four episodes.

Its got a big fandom in Japan and it still has some influence. To me it can exist quite well among other Japanese greats like Ultraman and Kamen Masked Rider.

So anyone else familiar with this or do you want to find out more about it? Let's discuss...:)
