I have to disagree, I actually think its very different from the previous versions now with a larger emphasis on character development. I am yet to see if I actually like paying a daily visit to the Gym to give him a work out, or if I will like food shopping. But it certainly adds more depth and realism to the whole thing. I dont think it will suit the casual GTA player though and I think thats the one area people loved about the game. Just turning it on, going for a drive about and kill some people, not to have to go eat or go for a run to burn off the few extra pounds gained from your happy meal.

Not really sat down and played it much yet, but I do like what I have seen so far, the storyline is good and the look and feel of the game is great. There are enough new things to it to keep me entertained for a long time and I am sure it will give me hours of enjoyment, well worth my £30!

Also the thing with GTA is you dont really see all the cool new stuff until you get a good bit into the game, I mean every time you switch it on you can suaully find something new. Give it time, play it a lot and then you can appreciate just how good it is.

I have to agree with Baker on this topic and I for one was not at all impressed with Rockstar's last bid at improving GTA, in which you ran around as a sweaty, fat, flamboyant Tommy Vercetti.

I love the character development in San Andreas and I love the range of different characters that come from different areas of town. Finally a game has arrived in which I could make myself out to be one of the guys you see on cops beating their trailer trash wife and getting arrested by the cops that pull up in their white Ford Bronco with the cowboy hat on and a nightstick.

Way to go Rockstar

Hmmmmm, interesting comments so far. Keep them up so I can make my decision ready for when the definitive version (PC) comes out. :D

If you liked the last one (Vice City) you will love this one. We have now jumped to the 90s so its a sound track i can actually remember well (God im old!) It has now got houses you can enter and take what you fancy for some cash. Now has clubs where you can actually dance, also play retro video games in there. Pool halls where you can play for money. Loads more little side games to keep you amused.

I just wish I had the time to sit down and play a couple hours a time, there really is so much to do. The motorbikes are superb now, they actually handle well and once you build up your motorbike skill you rarely fall off. Can even go to a stadium and race cars when you have sufficient driving skill. On top of this you have you storyline missions, and the cut scenes are very good, actually feels more a part of the game where as Vice Cities seemed a little "stuck on" at times.

Ok sales pitch over.

Old??? I actually remember pretty much all of the songs from Vice City!!! 90's music sucked so there may be one bad point for SA.

well i know pretty much all the Vice City songs and im 16  . from what i hear so far its kind of a mix between the older GTA games and The Sims almost, where u have to build up skill points to suceed and u can eat etc. sounds very good. kudos Baker u just made me make my decision. i am so getting it!

im only 16 and i remember loads of songs off vice city and quiet a few on san andreas.

i do think its a good game but the shear fun has been exchanged for realism: where as b4 on previous versions of gta you can just run around robbin cars n shootin ppl and generally wreaking havoc but now you cant because you have to eat or go to the gym which i do think is a good idead but it does take a certain ammount of fun out of the gta title which previous 1`s have had.

That's the thing, the console versions will remain that way now, but the PC version can be patched or modded to allow that system to change. It wouldn't be too hard to make an option to switch from realism to mindless fun. Hopefully Rockstar will take user comments into account before they release the PC version.

To be fair, if all you want to do is run around shooting people, you actually dont need to go to the gym or eat. Just play, but if you want to follow the storyline then yes you do need to develop the character. I prefer it this way as it just adds more depth to the game.

Oh, by what people where saying I thought you had to do it. Thought you'd die or something otherwise.

I'll shut up now.

I think basically all it does is eat away at your stamina. Yeah it might be fatal, but if all your doing is booting up to play it for a quick killing, then you dont need to worry about croaking it as you probably wont play it long enough.

UK-Big_Ian
11-03-2004, 01:46 PM
i think its just to heal your health and recover your stamina but ive never been long enough without the bugers to find out if you die from hunger.

Most_Awesome_Nianth
11-03-2004, 03:37 PM
It is only to regain stamina but Ian I have played mine for almost 12 hours and have done 3 missions the rest was mindless killing of people and stealing tractors.

Another great feature is the AI attacking cops which I am not sure was in Vice City but I have never before seen an old woman go up to a cop car pull the cop out and take off.

DoeEyedSniper
11-03-2004, 04:43 PM
I never bothered with the GTA games because of the mindlessness.

WEA-Mothhive
11-03-2004, 04:55 PM
That's only there if you get bored of the story or missions. It's for instant gratification. It's when you want to take out your aggression on something that can't fight back. Basically, it has a Man mode.

DoeEyedSniper
11-03-2004, 04:57 PM
...I'd rather take my agression out on SUV drivers in real life <_< >_>
Damn them!

put it on 2 players and have 2nd player cut off 1st players head with the katana...its pretty interesting running around the city headless with blood shooting everywhere

You need to get yourself a girlfriend, the two player option sits outside her front door.

Well, where do I begin...

Fist I'd like to say hello as this is my first post.

I am a moderator from gta-sanandreas.com so I have been involved with all the pre-release hype since may '04. First, let me get the bad points out of the way... It is unfortunate that both R* and magazines felt the need to hype up this game with false information, while some may just be the way they worded it, some things are just flat out lies.

it was Dan Houser who said...

"In Las Venturra, you'll be able to run a casino there, which you will have bought and built." -Game Informer June '04

Thats just one thing that we were told that isn't true...but I don't want to bring us down with bad news so on to the good part.

I think San Andreas is a huge step forward for not only R* but for the whole gamming industry. It really raises the bar in open ended gameplay. To go from Liberty City to San Andreas, which is about 10-12 times the size of Liberty City in GTA III, is just amazing. All the new features that they brought to the table really make San Andreas feel like a living breathing world. Yes, it isn't perfect, and we all know how annoying pop ups are, but look past that. There really is a lot of depth to the game world.

The storyline, in my opinion, was well written...however I belive that the missions were too easy. I only got cought up on a few of them and I breezed through a lot more missions in San Andreas than I did in Vice City or GTA III. The voice acting is very well done and I think young maylay was a great choice to voice CJ.

I could go on and on, but I don't mean to write a book so I'll wrap this up. The guys at R* have hit a goldmine with the GTA series and who knows what they'll dish out to us on PS3.

Got to agree with it being a bit easier than the past versions. Only one I would say had me stumped is that geeky guys missions, the RC ones. But thats only because I hate those damn RC planes!

LOL.

I wonder what R* are trying to tell us with that.

yeah that mision with the rc plane where you had to kill everyone before you ran out of fuel then get back, It me a while to beat that one.

Actually, it first eats away all of your fat, then muscle, and then health. Causing you to die if you don't go to the nearest fast food joint. Right now I'm working for myself in a way where I need to make my garrage better. To be precise I'm on the Vallet mission. The other mission is the first mission for Zero which I can't seem to beat. Damn R.C. planes are too small! :(

I'd like to give my congrats to R* for winning 4 video game awards including Game of the Year! =D>

Right now i'm about 80% complete, i finished the story missions a long time ago...just other little things left now, but i'm not really rushing to get 100%.

i don't think it is bad at all i definitly think it's a major improvment from vice city i love gang wars

but i hate that if u do 2 many cheat codes u might not b able 2 beat it fully

and i also don't like that it can freeze so easy cause it was suppose 2 be realeased on ps3
