I've been wanting to create a CS pack for a long time. I realized that even though it's easy, Sketchup doesn't work. What does shyguy use? I don't want my first set to be amazing. I want to start out small. I just want to use a good FREE modeler that gives me a large variety of tools for me to use to create my set.

Well, Belgabor has created a script for Google Sketchup/Sketchup Pro that allows the program to export the models directly to .ase format, which is generally what the importer likes to use. There are also scripts that help in the placement of objects in an RCT3 sized grid in both flavors of Sketchup. And, the best thing is that this export script allows the textures you use for your Sketchup models to be exported with the model. There is no difficult texture mapping anymore if you want to use Sketchup.

Are people using the freebie Sketchup - that actually works with the importer, or do you need to purchase the big daddy version?

You can use the freebie, but I reccomend Blender or Anim8or

Blender is the most widly used FREE program and is excilent (it is the one I use)

Milkshape is the most used comercial program, that has a 30 day free trail

Blender isn't easy to learn ... and as I know, you can't import your objects direct from blender into the importer.

I used milkshape (cost 25$). Lucky Girl and Vodhin used this too. Much easier to learn and if you want later switch to another 3D-programm like 3DS (as I know know Shyguy and MaxInfinty use this) you need no long new learning-phase.

Milkshape is easy to begin with, but I found it very limited, so I moved onto blender. It's quite easy if you learn how to use it and it's FREE. (also, belgabor made an ASE export script (I think) which makes it much easier)

I use Blender and it is a fantastic program. It takes awhile to get the hang of, but it's certainly worth it.

Milkshape has the most friendly interface, but Blender is more capable.

Heres what the results are:

Blender: 6
Milkshape: 2
SketchUp: 1
Animator: 1

Looks like Blender is the way to go :D

Blender will take a lot longer to use, but yes, it is free

Evreryone if forgetting poor little Anim8or:(.
That is a nice program but like all of them requires a little learning, I personally use Sketchup now(I made my first object in Anim8or).
Skechup is great and Really, Really, Really easy! YAY!
So, yeah, that is my opinion.

Blender isn't easy to learn ... and as I know, you can't import your objects direct from blender into the importer.
There's a free python script you can download that will export Blender meshes directly to ASE format. It works beautifully! :)

Anim8or doesn't work good. Started with this, but the object look strange. Blender is great. But it has a lot of features you'll never need for making CSO. If you want to create difficult 3D models, it's the best free program, you can get, I think. But SketchUp's easier and has everything you need for creating CSO. And there are many free plugins making it even easier. But if you want to have a professional modeller, you should use Milkshape or 3DS.

I use sketchup now, maybe later going to use blender ALSO.
But Sketchup is a very easy program to use and it has all the plugins for RCT3 Tiles etc.
I think the best to start are Google Sketchup and Milkshape, than Blender. I like Blender much better than Milkshape, but I think it's better to use Milkshape in the begin :) ..

Blender is great (and no, I didn't write the ase export script for it) and imo the best modeller for CS. Milkshape is good as well, but I started with Blender and when later tried MS I felt too limited in it.
SketchUp is a special case (and in this case I did write the ase export script). It's very easy to make CS with it, the problem is it can be really hard to make GOOD CS in it. If you aren't very careful, it's very easy to waste polygons without recognizing it.
If you're somewhat computer-savvy and not intimidated by unconventional UIs, try Blender. Also using SketchUp as a tool to quickly draw up a basic model and then giving it the finishing touches (and repair the oddities SketchUp introduced) in Blender is a viable option.

i have been trying to make a few objects in sketchup but none turned out well. I'm gonna try blender.

Blender is so freakin' hard to use! I just downloaded it after reading this, but it's so hard!

You misunderstood. You critizied that you need to install Blender, but that's also true for Milkshape...

Yeah, Sketchup has some tricky polygon things.. Just going in the model after creating..
But Blender IS very hard.. My first time I didn't find out how to place a box..
Milkshape is more easy than blender, but I don't care witch one you use the first :bulb:
But I like Sketchup because the plugins ;)

Google sketchup 6 + RCT3 Plugin + ASE exporter + RCT3 Importer

that's the easyest way, just watch some importing video's on youtube or video google

o.... i see what your saying but my computer has the things you need for milkshape already but not blender im gonna try sketchup tommorow or later on my other computer. Plus i hate blender its so freaking hard i tried it i just need more installments to do anything else i rather try sketchup or pay for milkshape

I suggest sketch up for building uses, walls, anything that has straite lines. If you want to create figures, orbs, and circuler, curvy pieces, than use blender or milkshape.

I use sketchup because to me its very easy. I could not understand blender or milkshape so I just use Sketchup 6 NOT pro, If you get pro you have to buy a liscence o just get Sketchup 6

Sketchup, it's great and free once you can get your head round the basics and fix the polys in it.

yeah for most beginners sketchup is easiest.
