View Full Version : Game locks up every few hundred feet

As i said, the game locks up when i go a distance. For example if i slowly creep foward the game is fine, at least 30fps. but once i start to go, the game would lock up for a sec and return. The faster i go the longer the game locks up. Its as if the game is running out of memory but i obviously reach requirements. any ideas?

I see you have a Geforce 7900 GT/ GTO. If this is the same card i have, a Asus Geforce 7900 GT TOP (stock overclocked card), we share the same problem! I tried the set the clocks of the card back using Rivatuner, to a stock 7900 GT, that helped some, but now it plays for 15 minutes tops!

would overclocking be the problem?
right now im running @ GPU 550 MHZ,Memory 1600 Mhz
My ambient temp is 42 and my load temp is 52, thats well within safety range
I tried it back at stock speeds but i still have the same problem
:weird:

I had this same problem with any newere nvidia drivers. Try using the 91.47's
My Specs: AMD dual core 2.4ghz, 1gb DDR2, 7900GTX, MSI K9N motherboard.
Game used to lock up and give me a blue screen after a few minutes of play with any newer driver, now it works fine, excellent frame rates.

Do you play with HDR, high resolution and High graphics-details?
Where can i get this older driver, at the moment there is the newest beta XPdriver is doing his duty, not its best but it does...originaly i have an FX3500M -> 7950GT CAD-Card
Please show me the link ;)

Games actualy run faster with HDR because HDR disables the FSAA and Anistopic filtering. Personaly i dont use HDR cuz i think the game looks alot better with the FSAA and anistopic filtering on. U can find the 91.47's here :

And yes, I run all the graphic options maxed out with 4x FSAA and 8x anistopic filtering, with HDR off for reasons i posted b4.

And as for the clocks on the vid card, my XFX 7900GTX 512mb XXX edition has stock clocks of 700mhz core and 900mhz(900x2=1800mhz) on the memory.

Ok I have a mobile CAD-Card so its the 7950GTX -Mobile - equal to an 7950GT ..575Mhz GPU ....We`ll see what the older driver is good for :)
in which Resolution do you play?
And something beside all this, has anyone tried the old graphicdemos of the 5900 and so on....they are "running" horrible with 16fps.....is it because of no optimisation?

I run the game on 1280x1024 res on 75 refreshrate cuz my 19' LCD maxes out at those numbers.

Woot it works
The problem was that the game was buggin with the drivers
wat i did was completely uninstalled the video driver via add-remove programs and reinstalled the normal current driver and it just worked

Thanks for posting your resolution. Now, do you notice any stuttering while cruising?

i wish i could say the same, im getting the same problem... the game runs very fast in either 1280x1024 or 1024x768 totally playable very fast, but then it grinds to a halt for 3-5 seconds every few minutes... i wouldnt think this is a ram issue as i have 1gb, granted its DDR333 and DDR400 (actually have a chip of each) but the pc is overclocked slightly so the ram is running @ around 350. i tried the stock settings on the board (2200mhz 4400+ vs running it @ 2400) and that didnt change a thing

When i play with WUXGA its running with 30fps sometimes more, but fortunately rarly under 25fps. So its completely playable, but I can`t play with AA/HDR ....ok HDR sucks sometimes because it looks in some situation very ugly and in the intro the plane glows in the night like never seen before

Consider getting the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer. I tried to copy/paste the URL but the link wouldn't work, so Google - 'amd software' and the first link will take you where you need to go.
I had some issues with stuttering etc, but found as you did, running the game under one core all the issues vanished. Then I downloaded and installed the optimizer and the games runs very well (not 100% as very rarely I get a split second stutter).
Give it a shot, hope it works out for you.
Good luck!

i am using the optimizer and every now and then it still happens so i've gotten used to just shutting it down it would be nice if they come out with a patch to get rid of the problem

Just to mix things up I'm having the same problem with a Radeon X850XT PE
fine if I'm driving around slowly but if I pick up the pace every so often I get a lock up, jerk, lockup then I'm in a tree.
System specs are AMD Athlon64 3500+
2x512mb Corsair Ram in dual channel
Radeon X850XT
300gb SATA HDD that's just been defragged.
I'm also using a USB steering wheel and didn't have this problem in the original closed beta but it start during the open and I submitted a bug back then as did many others.
I've also tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling (using 7.2) to no avail and always play after disabling anti virus.

Can you only turn off a core on the AMD's or is it possible on the Intels also? If so, how do I do it?

here's how you shut off one core while the game is running hit ctrl alt delete to bring up your task manager under processes find the test drive process right click it move down to affinity click that it will bring up a sub screen showing core 0 and core 1 uncheck core 1 then hit ok this bug is usually just amd alone
