Hey all.
My 6 previous sets havent been bad. But I have been learning more about Milkshape, and the tutorial using various tutorials by Vodhin, and by other Milkshape users. However, I am finding less inspiration as the day goes by. My park (Parque del Oro) is going well, and despite it not being great, well, I really enjoy it.
However, the same cannot be said for my scenery. I am finding that during making a set, I am getting easily frustrated, my temper is lost quickly, and I feel no one cares. Dont have a go at me, but I find it hard to motivate myself when I update and no one has replied. I am not like I used to be. My temper used to be under control, but now I have outrages every second.
But I feel there is a way you guys can help me, and then I will help you. I want an idea for a set that is big, bold, and useful for everyone. I am fed up of making simple boxes or cylinders. Gimme a tough, complicated pack to make, I'll give it my best shot. Maybe a sense of achievement is all I am missing. I look at most parks in the forum, not once have I seen my scenery involved. Infact, maybe only once, in Metoer Valley. I would love to have a set that more people would use, so I can enjoy scenery. Because, being honest, I dont enjoy creating CS at the moment. I dont get anything out of it. Not even pride. But maybe you can help. Let me here your ideas for a useful set that RCT3 has been missing, and I'll make it.
Many thanks for reading.

Don't feel down. I have all your scenery sets (I think, its hard to keep track of all the sets ever released) and have used them before. I think the way you present something can go a long way.
And, I was thinking (something I have been been wanting to try, whenever I have free time) is Wooden Roller coaster supports. The in game ones are really ugly. It may be hard, but could be what you need for your "ego"

This perhaps may come off sounding mean, which isn't what I really want it to sound like, but I'm not sure how to give an honest opinion without coming off sounding harsh.
If you are at the point where people not posting to your threads is bothering you that much that you need to make this post, then perhaps it is time to take a short vacation from custom scenery making? I read on your CoasterMania thread where you wrote "To others-thanks for replying. Please post, remember we give hours of our time, you could give 2 minutes of yours to reply."
That may be somewhat true, but I think you are looking at it the wrong way. You need to do this because YOU want too, not because you think anyone else wants you to. And because you're doing it because YOU want to, you should not get upset if people don't post as you think they should, because you are doing it to please YOU. Does that make sense? I'm getting the impression that there's an expectation on your part that you may not even be aware of, and when people don't meet that expectation it's frustrating you.
I personally don't read every thread here every day, and I do not post that often, especially if others have already said the exact same thing I would. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate what you do, in fact if I download a set I almost always make sure I thank the designer for their hard work and effort. But I'll be honest, I'm not going to post comments daily or even weekly on anyone's thread, and that does NOT mean that I don't appreciate their work. I also have some of your sets. I've used them in several spots where they worked perfectly. But I don't have any parks being displayed here currently.
The number of comments or posts is not a reflection of the quality of the work being commented on. Take a look in other forum topics here. There are parks with tons of comments that are not very good, while some outstanding parks don't get as many. That's just the way things are, and it's not likely to change any time soon.
Instead of expecting everyone to suddenly change their ways and post like you expect, it probably would be easier and more successful to change your expectations. If you want specific comments ask those people who have given them to you before, don't wait for others to maybe post. Do things only if YOU enjoy them, if you are happy then offer to share the feelings with others. If you are getting frustrated then get away for awhile or do something else in the game. You'll recharge and maybe even get some fresh new ideas.
It's not that people don't care, it's that maybe people don't care in the way as you expect them to. Get back to enjoying this, it's not worth it otherwise.

Fair enough

I understand. But can you not see how it must feel to not have any replies?

Once again I understand. Maybe I am 'too' quick to lose it.

Thanks for taking the time to post that Wagi. I see now I have been to quick to jump on the band wagon. I understand, and now see maybe it is me who is wrong, not everyone else.
Many thanks.

Hi Jack,
This is supposed to be a hobby and therefore should make you feel good. Personally when I am not creative or I can't be bothered, I don't work on CS - very simple. I take my own time to complete sets, it is my freetime after all.
Have a look at the forum. So many threads gets hundreds and thousands of views, but only a small fraction of people actually answers - this is normal.
I was absolutely astonished yesterday when two peeps mentioned my Harbour Set 2 as one of their essentials - I have NEVER seen it on the forum but know a lot of people downloaded it. I kinda felt I should ask if there is anything I could improve with future sets, as I wanted to create things people like, but never bothered - didn't want to come across as arrogant or desperate.
Now, I suppose this is the time to give you an honest opinion, as you kinda openly ask for it. I see you make a lot of progress and your scenery is permanently improving. I feel you do learn from experience and advice, which is why I like to follow and reply to your threads. However, I do not feel it is a good idea to go for a difficult project. I feel you should learn step by step, like chosing the correct testures. Your modeling is not advanced yet, and you barely use realistic textures, which would improve a model instantly.
Learn to make your models look more realistic, and then go for advanced modelling. You definitely have talent, but as everything, this needs practise.
If you feel frustrated now - remember, when I was your age, my highlight was Corel Draw and Paint :D

I have to say that i love your sets. You latest release of Coaster Mania is excellent and once I start making coasters again then I will for use it as well as your other sets :D I know how you feel when your talking about cs being frustrating. I have just started cs and it does get quite aggrivating. Just keep telling yourself "I can do this, I can pull this off no matter how frustrating it is." I say that to myself and it motivates me to keep going and then I eventually learn what is wrong and feel great :D Your models may be simple but they are very cool :)
I think a great ide for your next set would be a Suburb/City set. It would include stuff you see all around neighbor hoods and city such as firehydrants, mailboxes, walls with house and Skyscraper textures, sidewalks, trashcans and dumpsters, and much more. I hope that you stay with cs making because I really enjoy your modles and will use as soon as I start making coasters. You'll see your name in the credits of my Big Band II coaster ;) Keep up the great work with you sets :)

The best stuff comes from experience. Plain and simple. It doesn't matter what the stuff is, but experience makes it better. Young writers or composers or painters might be good, but even the good ones improve with age and- well, experience.
I've had 30+ years of sketching stuff on graph paper, doodling on napkins, and now, shaping stuff in 3D on a computer. My hand has had 30+ years of guidance and I have met fustration before, too. Simply find something else to do and the fustration goes away.
Now. I want you to make a set in the style of Tim Burton! I know you can do it because you already have the eye for it. As for blocs and cilynders, well, that's what I'm using! You just need a little practice in shaping the vertex points, using the scale and rotate features. Nevermind about textures, use simple, bold colors (im thinking Beetlejuice here). Make wonky doorways, tilting columns, distorted shapes of all kinds. Go out on the internet and look for pics from Tim's films, get inspiration from them, see the shapes within and make what you can.
I know you can do it ;)

Take an example from me. At this rate, the support killer pack may come out before Chrismas, and my Wood set by the end of next year or so. I simply work when I feel the need to.

I know what you mean about the people not commenting. I made one set that I was planning on releasing, but got very few replies, so I didn't release it. If you search you might be able to find the thread.
But after that, I just decided to make CS for myself, without ever making a post about it on here. Perhaps if you are feeling unappreciated you should just make CS for yourself, and just keep it without having to deal with poor or, no feedback even when you are constantly posting updates.

Ill tell you RCTManiac that you pieces are way better than mine. I may have created animated textures but there all just walls and slabs, any cs n00b could make. I appreciate your work and you objects are way better tahn mine :D I hope to one day get as good as you :)

I love that idea, thats quite hard but not impossible, yes I might just try that one.

Well I have done in the past, I have made my own signs and a small 16 piece wall set, but I would rather make a pack for more people.

I done animated textures to ya know! lol Thanks
Well the suburb set is No.1 so far.

Tim Burton films - Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas (that'd be cool), Sleepy Hollow, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Big Fish, Batman, Beetlejuice... If I've forgotten any, feel free to add them. But personally, I'd say Nightmare Before Christmas and Sleepy Hollow (wink wink) :)

We don't have here a competition who has the most sets released within' a month or somethin' like this. The result is, that the peeps here didn't realize, that you have release a new set, because they play just a few days with your last release. You set yourself under a pressure that isn't nessacary.
My personal "problem" with your scenery is, that the objects looks sometimes like quick preview-modells. I miss real details. You've made one set "Racing Mania" that shows, that you can create custom scenery with details. I don't have downloaded your last set, but on the pics I see the coaster-nets, which looks also very detailed to me.
Spend a little more time in details and play around in milkshape. I make currently my own scenery with Milkshape, but I have a lot too learn to create the objects as I would like to see them later in the game.
I don't want to bring you down. This is just my very personal opinion. Just a little critic, nothing more..
If you have no idea what you can do next, read the "Scenery Requests"-thread. I'm sure, you'll find a few good ideas there.
