Right now the download version cannot connect to the online servers, the offline play is choppy as hell, and there is no patch to download.

Bottom line: Don't go digital, the game is broken.

I'd wait ... unless you have a 360 or a PSP or PS2 ...the PS versions will rock ... the 360 works good. I'd avoid the PC version at the moment like the avian flu ...

Heres the problems i encountered:

1) Soon as the game starts it freezes every 10 to 15 seconds. then it will run for 10 to 15 seconds. everything freezes, mouse keyboard, entire game locks up for 10 to 15 seconds. then plays fine for a few.. ect ect...

2) After installing game asked for the key digital river provided. Started intro and then at profile page it said the key was invalid, then i entered it again. it loaded the profile page again

3) Then at the profile page it says a newer version is available and to upgrade to this new version and asked if i wanted to update. No Updates are available.

3) so then your forced to create an offline profile but when you get to the first tutorial race it has multi-player options and single player. the race wont progress no matter what you do.

yep, keep the faith there.
Just did my first online race (had no time to try before), and it was fun and smooth (it was choppy at the beginning, just shut down zone alarm and smooth it became; I will figure out later which ports to open).

The only annoying thing are the people probably not even aware that their microphone is on, so you get their engines and tires squealing noises (but you can turn them off).

im surprised you still believe in atari that much... I mean honestly, have they done anything to lead us to believe that this product will work correctly, or that they deserve any of our trust in their word??? How many times was this game delayed, and for how many days??? not only that, the downloaded version DOESNT EVEN WORK!! thats a step backward from the open beta that actually worked quite well!! WTH?? i am about to request a refund if the issues arent squared away asap.

Agree.

So far I've spent the best part of four hours trying to get the thing installed, dealing with no CD messages for the ****ing download version, then finally when I get it running I cant get online and it freezes every minute or so.

So IMO eagletalk, no, don't spend your hard earned just yet.

I'm not even gonna touch this thing again until a patch is released, if its no better I'm getting my hard earned back.

you know what i think your all cheeky for releasing an on line game that cant even connect online, surley thats wrong and you know it, this so called m.o.o.d thing your on about ill tell you the mood im in, pissed off, ive spent money on a product thats worth ****.

you need to compensate those of us who downloaded the game big time.

if theres anyone else who downloaded it you should reply to this and push Atari into a corner and give us something back in return for wasting our time and money.

So UKman... how long have you been a part of this forum... I ask because you said you have spent the last 4 hours trying to get it to work...

I read over and over again that it's not working....

So chill... get some rest watch a movie, do something to take your mind off of the wait... Me I can't play... so I've been spending my time on the boards.

Why do I have faith in Atari... because the need customers to succeed... I am just so happy they have ported this game over for us that I'm willing to wait 'til they get it right.

I want them to succeed so we can play... I don't want to buy another console, then wait for a decent wheel to come out to drive it... I want to use the stuff I have...

I know they are gonna fix it... just wait...

they shouldnt have released it till it worked its as simple as that. giving people false pretences is wrong, i thought i could download the game and play it online tonight but no i have to wait till they sort it out, when will that be Atari today, tomorrow, next week, you owe us big time youve taken our money put it in your big bank account and made us wait. im angry and should never have paid you for the game.

If you will go back through the original post telling us about the release you will see Matt did download and run the game...

What I think happened is when they built the digital download... they grabbed some code from the BETA now do I know that for a fact... no but I know how easily it could happen.

I understand there were patches for the closed BETA...

I think it was a programmer error they will find and fix...

I don't believe it is some big Atari Conspiracy to get our money.

I was up 'til 3am this morning trying to get it to work... when I finally gave up and posted I was having problems then the flood gate opened..

They are gonna fix it... I know they are... :)

I've been a part of this forum since yesterday mate, I joined when I learned of the download version being released, but I dont see what that has to do with anything?(please tell me its not the usual "new member has no right to comment" nonsense that many forums exude)

I was also part of the beta, which despite its flaws ran much better than this release and was even dare I say it, fun.

Most of the 4 hours has been spent installing and uninstalling the game, it was asking me to put the CD in the first coupla times I installed it. I had to manually remove the last of the registry keys to make it work the third time round.

I then spent a while going round in circles trying with the whole you must update to go online bug, before realising I could play with an offline profile. During this time faffing around in the menu's I noticed the freezing bug.

Only then did I get into the game where I found the aforementioned freezing bug pretty much makes the game unplayable.

So forgive my terse tone in these posts, but I am a little miffed at the whole situation since I have paid out my hard earned for what seems to me a subpar product. Yes, a patch is coming, and we'll see what that fixes.

Should it solve all the problems I will happily eat my words and sing the praises of the game and the devs from the highest rooftop, but for now I am content to vent my frustration here, put the game down and go "chill" as you recomend.

No sir nothing to do with "you are new here" I know a lot of your frustration has come from that fact that you spent the better part of 4 hours trying to get it to work...

The posts started last night that it didn't... me I gave up after 2 hours last night...

I would not have persevered like you did while they admitted they had a problem and were looking for the solution.

When you get up in the morning... it will be better... I just know it will be...

although it's almost quittin' time here now... I wonder will they stay after hours to fix it?

We'll see.

Blessings!

The posts started last night that it didn't... me I gave up after 2 hours last night...

The wonder of time differences, I bought the game when I got up this morning 6am GMT and left it downloading while at work, got home and started the install so I hadnt seen the posts from the first batch of users

I hope they are working after hours to fix it, it'd be great to have a patch in the next coupla hours, but I'm not hung up on it.

Yessir... time differences are something aren't they... we spent 10 years overseas in the tropics... it was always fun going over because we go there before we left...

The wife finished school in Norway... and her parents were in Scotland .... so I know all about those...

When mine didn't load the first time I went straight to the boards to see if I was the only one...

No other posts so I kept trying... finally other posts came flooding in...

Cya tomorrow!

Or would that be yesterday or the day after tomorrow? :noob:

I really like playing the Xbox version, so I was very excited about the release of the PC version. Downloaded and installed without a hitch, no stuttering in gameplay. However: 22-28 fps in 1900x1200 with all goodies turned on, a 3!! FPS gain by switching to 1024x768, AA and HDR off. Handling: my Audi TT floats like a '71 Buick Electra... My system: 6300 C2Duo, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, Nvidia 8800 GTX, 100.65 Nvidia drivers, Vista 5744 RC2. As of now, I am very dissapointed.

I have a decent PC and the open beta ran smooth ... however, I have the 360 version and after testing the betas, I felt no overwhelming need to buy the PC version. I love TDU, but graphically, my 360 version looks just as good as my PC beta.

When all of the bugs are worked out, I'll likely pick this up, but in the meantime, I'll turn to the PS2 version and my 360 version.

What is so frustrating for me is that in the closed beta, I had no problems. In the open beta, my FF wheel decided to only include forces from the left, and now I hear about the retail d/l version not working at all! Luckily, I still have the closed beta files and am able to enjoy TDU on my PC with my FF wheel until they get this mess sorted out, but what a pathetic launch. Seriously, this is a really sorry thing going on here. I truly hope they fix this fast, because being in the viral world of information we are in these days, bad news travels faster than light and can really have an impact on the success of a product. C'mon Atari, don't leave me high and dry like EA!

I really want to play this frigging game, but I am so disappointed by all the comments here so far. ok, now that some time has passed, atari has stepped up and is addressing the situation in a very fair, if not generous, manner. I would recommend waiting just a little after they relist the download before purchasing although i now have faith in atari. they showed us how to treat a customer the correct way.

So i suppose the answer to the question at the top was :download, cos those that did have ended up with 2 copies, a box and a digital and 75% off our next Atari purchase.
