View Full Version : [WIP] RC Station Set- (With custom ride entrances)

Hi I'm new to these forums and also new to CS, (though I have done a bit of 3D modeling before).
Since I am new to CS I might ask some questions in this thread. There are already some things I would like to do but I don't know how...
So hopefully some experienced CS makers will read this!
I've always thought that Roller Coaster Stations looked unrealistic and decided to do something about it and creat this set. basically It will be a series of pieces that you place on top of the original RCT3 station to create a 'custom' one. Confused? :bulb: (I am) Look at the pics below of my current progress:
(Page 2 - Custom entrances)
In my next Update I will give more detailed inforation to what the set will include.

awsome, Very handy. i will use it!!
APeX3181
03-13-2007, 03:27 PM
Won't it seem like the peeps are walking into the scenery when boarding the ride?
some1
03-13-2007, 03:43 PM
Apex3181- Yes it will. I have got some ideas of how to sort this out though. It's still very much in the developent stage, this the first model I have done for it.
Details On The Set
It will contain:
- Station Pieces (like above)
- Entrance and exit Covers (to place over the entrance and exit in a more realistic style)
- Gates (Idealy these would be animated but that is a far off dream. I would need loads of help.)
That is all for now but if anyone else has anything they think i should aslo make please suggest it, i am always looking for Ideas. If anyone also wants to help me with this set (Hint: Alpha textures!) I would be greatful.
Help!!
I would ideally in my set not have the station section so high, but it needs to be this high to get rid of the stations railings. Is there any way possibly using Alpha Textures to make them invible then the plateform could be 1h rather than 2h.

This looks great, though I ask: Could you release a version of that piece that covers only the station and nothing else?
some1
03-13-2007, 03:47 PM
Coinich - yes I'll add that to my list of pieces to make. (I suppose a piece like that would sort out the problems of peeps walking though it)

Are you saying that you want help with alpha textures?
Me, Rctmaniac and Dkimber have made some video tutorials
about how to do alpha textures (Dkimber).
I thought it might help you with the set aswell as many of our other
tutorials that have been made.

Jonnyears (Mr. Ears!)- Thanks! I just watched the alpha textures tutorial and it makes alot more sense now.

That's alright but it's DKimber to thank for that one!
If you visit my Youtube site, there are more of my tutorials
such as a tutorial about modelling complex shapes out of vertices and
faces. And UV Mapping (If you don't know how to do it)

Thanks for the support!
Unfortunatly I got School and H/W so the progress could be quite slow.
Expect an update later today.
Question:
Do you think I should go for realism and have the platforms high or
Peep friendliness and lower the plateforms so that is interacts with peeps better?
coinich
03-14-2007, 07:19 AM
Why not both?
RCT-Spanky
03-14-2007, 02:23 PM
I like the idea. Adding a lot of realism for all that coaster enthusiasts here. I always wonder, that the peeps here needs supports, launch fins, brakes and "christmas trees" for their coasters and are always satisfied with the loading area of their coasters. Good start!!! I'm curious what's next.

Here's a realistic idea! how about putting a ride operators booth in the station platform. It can either be connected to the platform or it could be a separate piece so that it can be placed anywhere(front, middle, back)!!!

03-15-2007, 04:33 AM
-Thanks everyone for the support. I really will have some time to day to do a bit more work and post some new pics.
-I also think I will do what cornich suggested, there will be one half of the pack going for pure realism and the other half going for a more 'peep friendly approach'
-Coaster freak I am very interested in this idea but I don't fully understand it. Could you post a diagram or picture showing what you mean?
-Also, If anyone else has any other ideas for the set they would like me to make that would be great!

how about real-looking breaks?
or curved catwalks that turn in angles...just like when a coaster leaves a station.
just like this :
http://p2.rcdb.com/picmax/knotts-berry-farm/silver-bullet13.jpg
can u do those but like in the middle break it apart so it can be used for steel coasters? k thx
P.S. Dont you just love my newb language?

ok Some1 what coasterfreak was talking about was that usually in a coaster (such as Top Thrill Dragster) u see a person sitting in a little room with windows on it before u leave the station. He's the one who operates the controls for the ride (speed, acceleration, chain lift speed, brakes, etc.).
Does this give u an idea or will this little picture give u a better kind of view
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o36/RCTCOLLECTOR2/Clipboard01.jpg
See that man sitting in that booth. That's what coasterfreak is talkin about

skippytim
03-16-2007, 02:05 AM
yea animation would be ideal and also some ride operations and a booth would be far out man totally wicked! I'm not sure that there is anything else in stations worth csing lol.
some1
03-16-2007, 12:15 PM
Ok I will certainly make booths/ operating rooms to go with the set. I will consider making brake runs + brakes but it would be hard work and doesn't fit into the station catorogary so much.
Expect another picture update soon.

I can't wait. Pretty soon, there'll be nothing in the game that isn't customizable.

It would be a godly breakthrough. Especially if the paths actually attached at the level the station platform was at.

would you make a wood floor or stone floor for specal theamed rides some things you could have cubicles(for puting items in) break relealese buttion opening/closing gates (set theses as ride events if you can) any ways love it so far
Spyxgames
03-19-2007, 10:45 AM
This looks really nice

Aroundthehorn- yes this is a rollercoaster custom entrance (see pics below)
Deadly Avenger - Thanks!
Zordork - Spyxgames has now posted a tutorial for it http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=576650
Buckface921 - yes I'm also glad to see the back of those so called 'generic' ones!
Rollerman87- Yes, almost everything has now been customized!
DarkMeasures - If only i could find a way to make the paths connect higher, unfortunatly I believe this to be impossible.
kylr23- Unfortunatly I'm not going to be able to make opening gates as ride events. i have spoken to The_Cook and you need to know C/C++ language and now about .ovl files in great detail. Our only chance of getting some gates is if we persuade him to make some for us that coraform to my set. Could you explain the cubicle idea in more detail becuase i can't imagine what it is.
Spyxgames- Thanks, though without you it wouldn't be as good!
Update Custom entrances Sucess
I have messed around with how they work and have got a few pics. I still need to position the vendor more carefully and build the model to go around it but they show the basic idea:

LightGrenades

Make him a mini vendor. I don't see the need to have one. But meh, it could count as an attendant person for the ride also.
Amazing Job, I am forever greatful!
some1
03-19-2007, 05:10 PM
yes i could very easily just bury the vendor underground out of sight, but I think it adds some realism. (As soon as I have postioned him correctly) what do you think?
-Oh and btw how would you make him a 'mini vendor'?
LightGrenades
03-19-2007, 05:16 PM
No idea about the mini vendor. I was talking about the vendor size. You can make him small, or bigger, which would be preferred if you can position it so its kind of facing the station. Like a ride op. But I don't know how to do that, and I am pretty sure any one who does would be gladly to help.
some1
03-19-2007, 05:22 PM
I have, after taking these pics, found out how to move the vender so i can put him in the right postition on the tile.
coasterfreak
03-20-2007, 12:40 AM
Great work so far..Now that you figured out how to move the vendor faceing the ride, can you lift the vendor up on a platform and put a booth around him and that could be the ride operators booth!!
You can kill two birds with one stone.
some1
03-20-2007, 06:02 PM
Coasterfreak - I think that is what I will do, but I will also make a separate booth that tou can post anywhere.
I think i am now about 50% done so not long until this will be released!
RCT-Spanky
03-20-2007, 06:47 PM
Has this poor peep a problem with the mafia? Or why stand he with his feets in the beton? You should make the floortile thinner.

Umm... Look at the date witch i had posted that reply. If you did look you would have noticed that it was back on April 4th at 4:26 pm. that was 255 days ago. I will not lie, I was an ******* back then, but as time went on i sorta matured on the forums. I dont believe that i have called anyone a noob for quite some time. I try my best not to be a jerk.
so lets leave the past behind, sence there is no way for me to change it. I am stuck with the past i have given myseld and im not happy with it...
