"Published in May" could mean "ships in June" so I was hoping for a street date.

You can actually get a UK download version now or a boxed version... US is basically gonna be a patch and add-on to this release.

Well Atari has updated the Arma link and added a street date of 5/1/2007 although BI's website says 5/7/2007 but hey its getting closer. Also seems there will be added content not yet available with previous versions. Sweet! Amazon currently lists it for $40 (less than I have found anywhere overseas or online) so hey I guess it wasn't too bad waiting a few more months after all. I would rather support Atari for bringing us this remarkable game to North America. Its really going to usher in a new era for milsim/FPS user made content in the years to come.

First off congrats to Atari for landing the Armed Assault game - ArmA is going to be bigger than all the Ghost Recon series combined. The diversity of the game, graphics and the ability to mod the game will set it apart from the other games.
With all the excitement of the game, I can't help but to wonder why the US is being released something different than the rest of the world is.
This question is for Atari -
1) Why is the US version different from the world release version?
2) What are the differences between the 2 versions?
3) If a patch is required for our players across the pond (UK) to play, then what are we or they missing? - It cannot be a language difference as the UK version is in english.

This question is for Atari -
1) Why is the US version different from the world release version?
Most likely for name clarification. Maybe the Atari wanted it to be clear to the store browsing gamer that it is a Combat game.
2) What are the differences between the 2 versions?
Name only
3) If a patch is required for our players across the pond (UK) to play, then what are we or they missing? - It cannot be a language difference as the UK version is in english.
Nothing will be different from the info I can gather from the BIS forums or readings from interviews. The games will be compatible worldwide and the only difference will be the name. All patches will keep people current.
I think everything comes down to regional publishing and Atari wanting the freshen the name up for it's market.

Thanks for the reply, however, the question was for Atari. Your post while appreciated, is only assumption which is all the gaming community has until we get the official word.
Clearly there is a difference other than the name, otherwise a patch would not be needed to play with our european community. The Demo is a worldwide release and no patch is needed for me to play with my team members in europe.
As far as rating the game for the US, It is federal law that all PC games must be rated ( ie....rated "teen" with warning for violence & blood) - So the different name is not to warn of combat conditions.
The long & the short of it, is there is a difference, someone, either the US or the european release is missing something somewhere.

Thanks for the reply,
No problem
We both are wondering the same thing. I think things will work out in the end
So far the Czech release which was last Dec started at...1.01 I think. Then as the German release came it was at 1.02. Then the 505games release was 1.04 with a quick patch that put everyone at 1.05.So the same thinking can go towards the US release
Us release will be a higher version, the rest of the world will catch up to it with a patch, then after everyone is at equal footing another patch may be released to catch any bugs between all the different published version.
But just like you say, mine is speculation only, and assumptions. I'm just going on the history of the game so far. What do we have, 4 publishers, 5? They all are on the same page though and the version have the same equipment. Yes, there are a few differences in what missions some have but they don't affect MP at all.
