Hi

New here. :p

Trying to install and run Silverfall on my PC with the Home Premium version of Vista.

Won't even install. :haha:

Have all new NVIDIA and PhysX drivers.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

What errors are you getting and what are your system specs?

Here is what I had to do to get my Vista install to work.

Steam version of Silverfall
Download the Agea drivers from their web site for Vista
turn off UAC (user accounts, account name, turn off UAC)
Run the game as an administrator
Turn my DPI settings on my faunts to the default, small size. Had them at 120 DPI as I run at 1600 x 1200 resolution normally. If you dont do this, you will not be able to run the Gamesetup to set graphics settings.

Now it works like a charm.

You don't need to run it as administrator, the full version works fine with normal user access.
I run Vista Ultimate 64bit as administrator, but with UAC on, and it works fine for me.
OK not totally fine, it crashes from time to time but I suppose that ain't the access rights doing that

This is correct. Silverfall does not explicitly support Vista, but you can get it to work most of the time by performing those steps.

As you serious?! I really was going to buy Silverfall off of Atari's download service today, but I could not see that Vista was supported. Thanks for posting on the forum, but I will not be buying Silverfall until it supports Vista without jumping through hoops.

Vista is my main gaming system now with the 8800GTX and X-Fi GamerExtreme.

So get with it Atari, and support Vista!!!

I had to run as admin with Steam at least, not sure about the retail CD. In steam I kept getting errors trying to install it.

I have had no crashes though, so thats a good thing on my part anyway.

Atari isnt the one to blame for all these hoops. Vista itself causes these issues and they should be working on the other end to remedy it. If
Microsoft wants to be a game friendly OS, they need to work at the compatibility mode a bit more at least. Others games I have installed have had similar issues, Titan Quest even gimps out with Vista.

Sure there are plenty of games that don't work well. Pick any punkbuster-type game like Battlefield2 and I have to run as Admin. But games like Supreme Commander work great. Company of Heroes works great (DX10 patch coming soon). Oblivion works fine. Fight Sim X (Microsoft) works great.

Vista is the most extensive beta (2+ years) for an operating system. Working betas have been available since last summer and it went gold last November. Granted Nvidia and Creative have had a hard time getting their drivers out of beta, but from what I read, this game doesn't support UAC! I have no problem typing my Admin password (running as non-privledged acct) to install a game. But if I have to log in as Admin to play the game, then I'll pass.

This games seems like a good one, especially with its likeness to Diablo 2. Once a Silverfall releases their Vista patch, I'll buy it.

Just my 2 cents

I actually have it running with UAC on.

It installed just fine, except for PhysX, which i had to get the Vista compatible driver for, but otherwise the install seemed to go fine with the Atari digital download.

From this point when i would try to run the game it would always return an error about SecuROM not running so I re-installed a couple times disbling different "Features" then I got frustrated ... so I ran it in XP compatibility mode and it works fine. Though I am running it as an admin, haven't tried using a restricted accout yet because I wanted to play the game a bit.

Thanks for the information. If you get around to running it in a non-admin account, I would be interested in how it ran (with Win XP compat mode on).
