Hello,
I'm getting an error message when I try to install the editor.
Some details...
I have the download edition and it installed and activated with out problem. And the game runs.
However when I go to the Autorun and click the "Install editor" option nothing happens.
And if I go into the "Editor" folder and run the editor setup I get an error message that says:
- "Game installation not found - aborting"
I also get the same error message when trying to run the 1.16 editor patch I found here:
Anyone heard of anything like this? Or have any clues? Thanks!
EDIT:
Tried a reinstall and get the same things.

There could be a problem with your installation of the game. The Editor actually works off of the games files in order to run.
Where did you install the Map Editor?
Have you tried installing the game to your C:/ drive and then running the editor setup?

All I did was next through the install. Not like I changed any of the default settings, such as install location, etc. The game works, but the editor will not install... so dunno...

I thought the map editor is what I was trying to install?!?! All that's located in the "Editor" folder that was made during the extraction of the download edition are the files:
- MC_ExporterViewer.exe
- Silverfall_Editor_Setup.exe files
I installed the Exporter without problem. But when I try to install the Silverfall Editor I get the error I posted earlier.
Where did you install the Map Editor?
No, it installed to the default C:\Program Files\Monte Cristo. Which is the same place I installed during my initial install and when I tried to reinstall. That is also the same location the Exporter was installed to as well.

That's very strange. When the game is installed, it writes registry keys to your registry. When you run the Map Editor installer, it simply looks at these registry keys to "figure out" where the game is installed. If it can't find where the game is installed, then there is some kind of problem preventing the installer from checking your registry, that or the registry keys were not created.
What operating system are you using?
Are you running on an administrative account?

There are definitely some Silverfall entries in the registry, I did a "Find" in the registry and found some entries. Whether or not they're correct, I have no clue...
OS: Win XP Pro SP2, with all current updates... yes an Admin account.

Found your answer... I had the same problem.
FYI: i had the digital download.
The fix:
Open Regedit. (Backup your registry, i assume no liability for this fix whatsoever. Google: Backup Registry, Google:Restore Registry, or if you have XP or Vista, to a system state backup.)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Monte Cristo
Create New Key: Silverfall
Open New Silverfall Key
Create STRING Value: HD_PATH
Enter Data value: <your install drive letter:>\<installation folder>
Exit regedit
Launch Silverfall_Editor_Setup.exeExample of how mine looks:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Monte Cristo\Silverfall
(default) REG_SZ (value not set)
HD_PATH REG_SZ F:\Silverfall
FYI I did a custom install of Silverfall on my F: in the Silverfall directory hence the path is different from C:\Program Files\Monte Cristo\Silverfall.Methodology:
Download Regmon (microsoft technet/sysinternals)
Launch Regmon and start recording/logging
Launch Silverfall_Editor_Setup.exe >wait for the error message
Stop recording/logging in Regmon
Search for "monte"
You will find the error NOT FOUND
Thus you create the key and the DWORD value found in the registry editor under Monte Cristo.Bottom LIne:
Add the reg key and point to your install location on your hard drive.
FINAL NOTE:
The SilverfallEditor.exe will be located the same place as your silverfall.exe

I have the same problem installing the editor. Later today I'll try Zargonoth's fix and report back with my results.

This worked, but I had to create the "HD_PATH" registry entry as a string value, not a DWORD. DWORD values want to be 8 digit hex or binary entries as far as I know.
Maybe the download version of the game doesn't write the proper registry entries. I also have the atari downloaded version.

Well this worked in a fashion, for the Steam version too. But how do you tell it the correct path for the GFX directory and files? The editor can't find any of them and I have a feeling the names employed for the Steam version are different to the ones the editor is looking for =/
**update**
I now know the problem, the files it wants to open don't exist. I guess I need to extract them from the gfx.pak, but what do I use to do that?
