My game was running well, but I couldn't play online, so I tried patching. The game shows the splash screen and then loads up the main menu, but after the turning-gear loading sequence, there's just my mouse cursor (the special one used by the game) on a black screen for about 5-10 seconds. After this, I get a "Silverfall has encountered a problem and needs to close" error. I tried updating my graphics and sound drivers, but this has had no effect. DirectX is up to date. System specs are fantastic.

So, I went from not being able to play online to not being able to play at all! What should I do?

Do you get the same problem with a new character?

You can try removing all of the files in your save folder in the Silverfall install directory EXCEPT for the ones that end in .BAK. These are the backup save files and should take over upon restarting Silverfall.

Well the backups didn't "take over" - I apparently don't have any character at all - but at least it's running!

He was only level 10 anyway, so no big deal. I know people disparage everything they can think of in these forums, so here's your pat on the back:

 Thank you for resolving my issue!
