I heard from my friend that at some six flags park, there was a coaster that went over water, and the train fell off the tracks and the train went into the water, everyone drowned because they were locked in with the restrains, i hope thats not true... sounds like a horrible death

Wow, that really made me laugh. A coaster would never ever just spontaneously fall of the tracks.

Everyone knows that Bigfoot doesn't have his own space ship. He was abducted.

While I have not heard of such an issue with a coaster, I did hear of a river rafting ride that flipped over -- in early 1999, a raft on the Roaring Rapids ride at Six Flags Over Texas overturned. One person drowned in that accident.

In mid 1999, and again in 2001, a raft on the Wild River Gorge ride at Visionland Park overturned, involving 5 people. None of them were killed.

In late 1999, a raft on the Blizzard River rapids ride at Riverside Park (now Six Flags New England) overturned, involving 6 people. None of them were killed.

In 2000, Renegade Rapids at Six Flags America also had a raft flip over. While two of the 8 riders were injured, no one was killed in that incident.

In 2003, 4 people were involved in an overturned raft on Piranha at Efteling Theme Park.

As for coming off the rails, the Jack Rabbit roller coaster at Clementon Amusement Park derailed in 1998, crashing into the park's management office. Three people were injured.

Well, yes, he was abducted at first, and the aliens tortured him by making him do obnoxious beef jerky commercials.
Then one day, he got mad and pwned them.
So now it's his space ship..(he learned to fly it by watching Sulu on Star Trek reruns)

True story..

Everyone knows that it's the gremlins who do these things, since airliners now fly too fast for them to hang on. They are directed by the corporation
"Gremlin Rental, Exploitation, Management Limited, INc".
Or Gremlin for short. They are based out of Loch Ness, Scotland, and are responsible for the mis-direction legends of Nessie, BigFoot, and La Cupa Chabra, to divert attention from their devious schemes. They were caught and exposed in two movies, but most just didn't get it and they were thought to be fiction. This relieved G.R.E.M.L.INc. immensely.

^ And what does that have to do with this topic?

Though there have been reports of coaster derailment and raft flippage as Harpo mentioned, fear not this time round, this rumor is bogus.

^ He was explaining the cause of derailings on coasters... :D

Skip, I had been wondering about that myself, thanks for clearing it up. Any truth to the rumors that one of our own could be part of G.R.E.M.L.INc? I remember you telling a new face here not to feed this "gremlin's" ego after midnight...

So G.R.E.M.L.INc. is based out of Loch Ness Scotland? I guess that explains their affinity for water, and why they enjoyed this particular incident.

^ Don't worry, I'm not too ignorant of sarcasm. Just very liable to point out blatant spaming.

So yes, you could blame it on gremlins....or the simple disassembly of the wheel assembly via screws literally coming loose, which as you would predict would mean that the wheels, and quite possibly the rest of the assembly simply comes apart, meaning the coaster train simply derails.

This in turn means that all the king's horses and all the king's men hurry to put the coaster's wheels back together again.

Sort of on topic...

I remember one time at Disneyland experiencing an incident (not really an accident, but I wonder if there could have been one). It had been raining all day and my group decided to ride Thunder Mountain one last time. While we were on it, the ride kept speeding up until finally they manually turned off chains to the lift hills. Apparently the computer controls (at least that's what they told us) malfuntioned and thought we weren't going fast enough, though I suspect the water on the tracks helped out as well (can you hydroplane - of sorts - on a coaster). They said we had reached a speed of over 45 mph (I'm only going by what they told us) while the ride, correct me if I'm wrong, reaches speeds of 25-30mph.

At the time, it was the best ride (that particular one) I had ever been on.

I wonder what could have happened if they hadn't stopped us...

Keep in mind this happened in 1992, so my memories aren't the most reliable. Recalling this, I've questioned how exaggerated they are...

Wildthing at Valleyfair! partially derailed once it hit the brake run back in may 2006

(the last 2 cars of the train were tipped on their side)

I rode it a month later though and it worked fine :)

Just remember, the original post was that a complete coaster just derailed 100% and ended up in the lake.
THAT has never happened, except in movies.
The outrageousness of such a story led to the sarcasm and the possibility of attack by Gremlins.

I know of 2, at Lagoon Utah.

On the old wooden wild mouse, a Car's Wheels snapped off the train and it flew off the Sharp turn... Killed 4 people?

and another on their wooden rollercoaster, It wasnt a derailment, but the train's restraints failed and people went flying out... 6 people killed?

Not according to Snopes, do you have anything to verify this or is it word of mouth?

There was a case where the safety rollbacks failed on a wild mouse and the car slid back into the station from near the top of the lift hill. I believe there was two deaths involved.

And, of course, there's the lady who bypasses the safety restraints on Raven and stood up on a hill. She went flying and died after falling over sixty feet.

Deaths on coasters do happen, but they are extremely rare. You have more risk getting to a park than you do from dying on a ride. Now, being injured slightly... depends on what you call being injured. Bumps and bruises, sure... I get those all the time from OTS restraints. ('Course, I'm a big guy, and I barely fit.) Worse injuries? I've gotten one in my life from a coaster... never turn your head during a loop, I've learned the hard way.

As long as you follow the safety instructions and regulations, you'll be fine.

I’m pretty sure there was a case at “Coney Island” (could’ve been another park” a few months ago. I think it was on “Psyclone” and what happened was a boy was flung out of the train and onto the grass bank, he was killed instantly. It seemed that the boy actually loosened his restraint in order to get more air time. What’s worse than that is the mother tried suing the park when it was her child’s fault!

One class I had to take for my MBA was a business law class. In that class, I learned that, in the case of a minor being injured or killed, it is always viewed as the fault of the property owner.

For example, if you have a swimming pool in your backyard, completely enclosed, with locks that would make Fort Knox look like an easy target, and low-voltage electrification to give a slight shock to anyone trying to enter, but some child finds a way to break in and drowns in the pool, you're still at fault for having the pool.

Anyway, if you want to find reliable information on ride accidents, I've generally found http://www.rideaccidents.com/ to be a useful site. However, I haven't seen an update there for a while, so I'm wondering if the site owner has lost interest, or has gotten too busy with other things.

I don't yet know if its information is as reliable, but another site with accident information is http://www.amusementsafety.org/. I'm watching that one, and trying to compare to news reports I'm able to find in order to determine its reliability.
