Newbie can't get past Level 3!!!

I'm serious. Every time I hit Level 3 or so, the monsters all gang up on
me five or more at a time and whack the snot out of me. "Healing" doesn't
help because I have it in the "4" slot on the right. I go, "4-4-4-4-4-4-4",
but nothing much happens and I end up dying. Morka gets killed too.

Please help!!!

One thing to try: when you see a group of five heading for you, take a healing potion before wading into battle. This will give you immediate healing that will help you absorb the damage. Set Morka so that she heals only, don't waste her trying to do damage. The final idea would be to grab Danselame, a fighter companion. He can absorb some of the damage you're taking. Of course, you have to live long enough to get to him....

Also, mobs don't chase you very far in this game, so if you think you're going to get swarmed, run away. Just pick off the mobs 1 at a time. Always focus on 1 creature at a time (unless you're doing AOE stuff obviously). This will slowly but surely reduce the damage you take.

If you have any cold spells, they can help to stop the attackers considerably.

But usually if I am in a situation where I am losing. I will run, and the mobs just stop chasing you after a little while. Just make sure you run in the direction you came from, and not into more mobs :D

Are you using the healing spell? If so, you need to target yourself with it in order to make it work.

Also, run around, draw the mob, take them on one at a time, and above all: don't be a hero - run away if you need to. Try luring the mob back to camp where the guards can help you.

Finally, consider using a bow / gun or magic. The early parts of the game is much easier to do with ranged attacks.

The best advice I can give you is to complete Morka's companion quest right from the start before you do anything else. That way you have a dedicated healer companion right from the get go. She/he is the troll near the center of town. Trying to solo the first part of the game can be rough. I'd recommend doing the chest quest next, so you can buy death insurance.

Don't worry though, while the game starts out hard, you'll be mowing through baddies with ease before you know it.

Hmm...I'm not sure what to suggest then. As long as he has Morka set to heal only in the beginning, which I think is her default script, he should be ok. There are a few spots in the starter swamp map where champion groups will spawn, but nothing where popping a few health potions plus Morka's healing can't overcome. The only other thing I can think of is to ramp up the damage output so he's killing things at a reasonable rate.
