Did you know that you can actually shoot the enemies from very far away? No, I'm not talking about 10, 12, or 14 feet (plus whatever +% range boost). I'm talking about shooting from 30-40 feet away and the monsters can not retaliate and chase you because you were out of their "Line of Sight". LOL, I don't know if this is a bug or it is intended gameplay, but it's a lot of fun to be a sniper :)
How does it work?
First of all, you need to know how to shoot a target that is out of your weapon's range. Simply press left [Shift] on your keyboard while you left click to shoot. This will make your shoot on the spot without first, having to move closer to the target.
Second, your target must have some kind of "wall" behind them. For example, a monster with a tree behind it, a dungeon wall or even a mountain. The "wall" object doesn't even have to be in the proximity of the target, it just need to be viewable in the target's background.
Third, zoom your view all the way in so your character will look mostly like in a first person shooter view. Then press left [Shift], aim your cursor to the "wall" object couple inches above your target and start shooting.
Why does it work?
First, It looks like all ranged weapons projectiles can travel in far distances without disappearing into the background (unlike spell projectiles). So if you aim it high, it will either hit a stood object on the distance or fall down to the ground.
Second, you can actually aim and shoot at any part of an object. Just press left [Shift] and aim your cursor at the roof of the house, the door, the window, etc.
Third, thanks to somewhat sophisticated physics engine in Silverfall, all range weapons' projectiles will travel in a arc (curved) trajectory instead of a flat line (like a real gun). So you can make the projectile travel farther than its advertised range, simply by aiming higher to shoot and make a curvier trajectory.
Where does it work?
All ranged weapons can shoot farther than its advertised range, yes, even crossbow. Although I prefer to use the gun since it has farther advertised range, thus flatter trajectory, hence it's easier to adjust your aim for long distance and small targets. You can shoot almost all the monsters (provided they have somekind of "wall" object behind them as mentioned above). Yes, even the boss can be killed silently this way. If you have to start a dialog first before fighting, simply run away far enough until they stop chasing. Then start shooting them from a safe distance. LOL, they have no idea what hit them. They will just squirm there like their a$$ on fire. :haha:
OK, that's all. Go give it a try and have fun sniping!!
