Someone told me that it has Windows XP on the box only.

Yes, it works on XP, 2000, and Vista. The game is just finicky as all hell. You might have to run the game with administrator privileges, but it'll work. Bear in mind that 2000 isn't a gaming platform - it was designed to replace Windows NT.
