Hey all,

Just wanted to create a thread where users could post tips for getting the most out of their game performance wise and even graphics wise.

I was actually testing the full game Digital Download (coming May 1, 2007 to Atari.com/us) of ArmA: Combat Operations this weekend and found that I got the best performance when I Disabled Antialiasing and Disabled Anisotropic Filtering in the In-Game Video Settings. For me this made a HUGE performance difference and actually allowed me to turn up the resolution of the game to 1920 x 1200 x 32 (really really high) and set all the graphics settings to Very High and the Visibility Distance to almost full.

To access that menu once the game loads just click Options > Video Options > Advanced.

The game looks Absolutely Stunning and runs flawlessly once I turned those two things off and turned up my resolution and graphics settings. The same thing applies to the demo.

This is a quick and easy way to get better perfomance and have it look reallly good.

Hope that helps!

See you all on the battlefield May 1!

Matt

I did this with the demo last week, kind of out of habit. This was the same for the old OFP games too. Disableing Antialiasing, Anisotropic Filtering and a few other of the video options would usualy get the average desktop gamer beter framerates and performance.

The only case that this was not true was on my old laptop I played OFP on. In my old laptop's case (with its limited on-board video card), having one of them enabled (honsestly forgot which) actualy made a signifigant improvement in the game's performance.

I guess it all depends on your overall machine specs. I dont see any performance difference whether I have Aniso off or on full.
Generally, its the post-effects along with AA that affect the fps the most.

The community over at BIS' own forum have collected alot of hint and tips regarding performance in Arma here (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=68;t=56898). Everything relevant is edited into the first post so you dont need to browse the thread.
The post is so long I didnt feel like copying it over.
Keep in mind the hints about SLI is not that relevant anymore if you are using 1xx.xx drivers (they support Arma in SLI).
Hope this helps :)

Hopefully you spent a little more time with ArmA then what appeared to go into the twice broken digital release of Test Drive Unlimited.:p

Honestly for a 22 year old (Ominous Gamer) you act a little immature sometimes... some of the posts you make can be considered trolling...

Anyways... I can say with full confidence that the Digital Download for ArmA: Combat Operations works and that there are no issues associated with the download.

Also staying on topic with this thread... Thanks for the added tips, Shadow, and the link to the guide!

Just keeping it real.
I've seen Atari put out the same PR for TDU and NWN2. Just to see both games fall to the wayside weeks later. NWN2 ended up with a 1000 post thread asking for securom to be removed and TDU is still so broken that no one is able to complete the game.

It would be a shame to go 3 in a row. Here is to hoping ArmA is different.

What does Arma:CO have to do with NWN2 and TDU? Last I heard, Atari's part in Arma is publishing and distributing it to North America (created and developed by Bohemia Interactive Studios over in Europe).

Your last two posts in this forum have just been you trolling at Atari over a game which they are only putting in a nice package and distributing in North America for another company (IE: if you don't like your sweater from grandma, going after the UPS guy that delivered the box it came in is pointless).

You are trying to undermine a great company (BIS) and their next great game (Arma:CO) by blindly taking pot-shots at their North American distributor (Atari).

Publishing and distributing a game is a pretty big deal. When a publisher fails to correctly compile a digital release (TDU), or bundles rootkit software like SecuRom (NWN2, TDU, Silverfall), it doesn't matter how much time the developer put into the game. Their hard work is pretty much ruined.

I'm sorry if you consider it "blind pot shots", but you are free to surf the forums to verify everything I have said so far to be true. I've got nothing againist BIS, I'm just tired of seeing large franchise names completely dropped to the way side.

My first post in this thread was a valid concern I have from my previous experience dealing with Atari. In return I was attacked as being immature.

Except in my case, but that's unusual circumstances...I think the hard drive I was using was messed up. Now everything so far is peachy, and should be.

I am the first case of problems, and it seems to me it might be on my side, though all my software says I dont have a problem...but reasoning says I do. Either way, The digital download aint so bad, and Atari(at least Mattlab) has gone waaaaaaaay out of their way to help me with my issue.

So for that, it's all nice and peachy and groovy. At least someone cares *cough*EA*cough*

Other than my issues, I will definately buy from Atari again. Provided it's my Genre, of course.
