New set in progress: Movie Studio Set
Me and Xss2077s from Atari (he made the animated Space Mountain tunnels) are doing a CS set! It is a movie studio set. I will be doing the modeling on SketchUp, as well as the texturing. he will do the Importer.
I've noticed a lot of people like to do movie studios. That is why we decided on this set. It should end up including:
- movie studio entrances (maybe 2 if i have time)
- walls (fancy)
- Equipment (such as cameras and sound equipment)
- Others (small stuff like directors chairs)
- Monitors and Effect Generators (small TVs and stuff for on the set)
- Stage Signs
POSSIBILITIES
The following are some items I will attempt to model.
- Animation studio equipment (desks and office supplies
- Giant palm trees (the ultimate sign of movie studios
- A logo for all studios, much like Universal's globe: possibly a fountain
I may add more as I go along. Any requests?
Well, in case some are unsure it will work since I am modeling, here are a few items. They are not textured yet, I just used SketchUp's textures as an example.
An entrance:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2408/entrance1realnottextureok0.png
Note the little rectangles will be billboards.
Wall:
http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/3180/wall1sketckn9.png
Corner Wall:
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/9248/wallcorner1sketcql0.png
Camera:
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1103/camera1wj8.png
I know the items have lines through them, but I will fix it...somehow :D
Comments? Suggestions? Requests? Complaints?
WOW! This is cool! If someone actually bothered to make DCA recreation, this would be very useful.

Just to specify, it's me, xss277x working on it. Not Xs2077x. :p Oh, and something else I would like to specify, I'm not making any models. I am merely the importer. :)
Here is the first ingame screenshot:

Please use JPGs not pngs, they take longer to load. The models look nice, I'll be doing a tutorial on billboards soon.

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWwoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw, I can't wait, I'm just creating a "LIGHT, ACTION PARK" and I have a land with the Hollywood Studios and I've no camera and equipements under projectors!

Sorry for the pictures. I was having a problem. When I clicked the image button [the one with the mountain :D ...where u type the URL] it just made a noise and nothing happened. :( Anyway, does anyone know where I can get a roof texture, like the one on the entance in the first shot [the one shown is SketchUp's texture]
Looking good, but the camera seems to have too mny polys.
J_DeRosa15
04-29-2007, 04:52 PM
Its only 70 faces. I am really new to CS and I know quite some things, but I am not an expert. As soon as I find out what polys are I will fix it. I saw a tutorial on a site. :D

UPDATE
here is a small update. By the way, I also hope to make a water tower, possibly a billboard. Don't know yet, though. :D
Really sorry, but Atari is being a pain and not letting me post pictures. So I have to use these thumbnails. :(
A GATE
The texture will be alphaed [or however you say it :p]
This gate can also be fit in the movie studio entrance to make it look like your studio is closed.
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/5609/gatejr9.th.png
I may also make an open gate!
LETTERS FOR STUDIO
I have accomplished this, but 2 problems. 1, it has way too many faces. And 2, Xss277x and I still need to see if it fits on a wall...if we can get it into the game.
(Wall not included)
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/8545/exampleofsignij6.th.png (http://img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=exampleofsignij6.png)
Just a small update.
Please post any comments, requests, complains, questions, etc.

Never heard of Einstein's theory of relativity? ;)
I like the idea very much. Don't forget this large lights and maybe a large decorative golden statue that looks like this academy award-statue (you know, the "O..", but if you make it, don't call it "Os..", because the name is copyrighted).
Good start, I hope to see a few in-game shoots soon. Keep it up, that idea is great.

I tend to be a fast worker. By the way, util this morning, I had 65 messages. :D
Now. Thanks for the comments. Spanky, we have one in-game shot: Post 3
As of right now, all I do is model. I make a small rough sketch of the model. Then, I go back and reduce the faces, group it, etc. I texture last so keep that in mind if you have any complaints on textures.

I have 130 messages, which means I'd better get them cleared out sooner rather than later....
One problem is that the camera seems a little too top-heavy. Like the top is fatter than it needs to be and the camera lens is too big IMO.

look great! I used to work at warner bros studios..
How about clapboard, spotlight tower, camera lifter truck, canned of films, dresser room with make up like lights and mirror, camper rv trailer or bunkhouse trailer, camera cart on train track, microphone holding, stage number, red light, water tower, whole stages, and many more.....
J_DeRosa15
05-01-2007, 08:52 PM
wow! Thank god for you! I really apprechiate this. Some of the ones you mentioned I had planned, some I didn't really think of, and some I can't picture. Can you please describe or possibly give me a picture of the following:
- clapboard :D
- canned of films
- microphone holding
- whole stages
I know what all of these are but i want to get a very clear picture of them. I don't know about the dresser room desk, because i don't know how to do mirrors or transparents...yet. And some things, like a water tower, may have a billboard for complete customization.
I am thinking of making some other items, too. I may make a rack with films on it. Maybe some boxes of props and stuff.
And you guys know Universal Studios? Maybe some ticket booths for a Movie Studio theme park. And you know those giant palm trees? I haven't forgotten them! :D Sound good?
By the way, I may open up a small request for studio names, if anyone is depending on this set for upcoming projects. But I am not going to do that until I can make text, because as of right now there are too many faces.
Thanks again rideslover!
Small Update:
Sound Studio Equipment:
A small multi-purpose machine that can be placed behind the set. It is used to monitor sounds. Can be used in recording studios, movie studios, maybe inside a maintence room of a ride that plays music, etc.
http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/6197/soundequipmenttestmb5.png (http://imageshack.us)
The textures were custom made on paint so they aren't that good. I am on the search for some real ones. If anyone can spare some, I would greatly apprechiate it. COMING SOON: The same object with some different textures, to show some things like editing (such as greenscreen)
By the way, I know a lot of you guys want to see some in-game shots. I will supply them ASAP. Only some objects are in the game: the entrance, the gate, and a wall. As far as I know, they all work fine, even the gate. But we will see. :D

05-02-2007, 05:02 PM
Okay, today in school, I drew some plans. At the time, I was also thinking of USF Geek's USF scenery so some of them may be originated from that set :p
here is what I drew...I will try to model them all and even talk to Xss277x about making some effects.
Open Gate
Sound Equipment
Studio Light
Fence (desinged)
Water Tower
Director Chair
Sound Filter
Trailer
Editing Studio Equipment
Giant Scene (A giant backdrop that will come with 4-5 possibilities)
Animation Desk
Fountain
Giant Palm Tree
Rolling Camera (with tracks)
Several Signs
Ticket Booth (for movie studio themed theme parks)
Stage Numbers (see bottom)
Stage Awning (see bottom)
Stickers for Wall (see bottom)
Doors
Cinema Seats
Food Court Items
Lighting Controls
Lights w/ catwalk with working lights
Ladder to Catwalk
WallsNot to mention all of the other things from the first post!
I know your all thinking that this will be a VERY big set. I know that. If worst goes to worst, I may just make seperate versions. It would be hollywood's INSANE volume 1...hollywood's INSANE volume 2...and so on.
Now, Stage Numbers.
I have tried some 3D text in SketchUp and it don't look like it's going to happen. :( But, I may make some walls that have letters on them. It would kind of be a waste, though, because this can easily be a billboard. I may talk to X about making it an alpha
Studio Awning...
Look in USF Geek's old Universal Studios thread. I am going to try to customize the awnings in his creations. I think they would go great.
Stickers for Walls...
Yea. Based on USF Geek's work again. I was looking at the Jimmy Neutron logos and throught...hey! Why not do this...only with common movie studio items, like a camera, or a roll of film?
I thought these would all be great ideas. Do you all agree? :D I know it seems like I'm stealing USF Geek's creations but I am actually not. I am, how you say, using them for inspiration! :p (No i do not really talk like that!)
Comments, request, complaints, etc.?

Currently, I am having no luck with the water tower. Probubally for the fact that I can not make a sphere on sketchup. Is this possible in any way I don't know of...besides making a bunch of faces. Do not post an easy way to make faces or reduce the faces PLEASE! I know how. BTW, just to any sketchup users...how do u make vertexes? :D I may have an update soon.
surfingoz
05-04-2007, 06:18 PM
To create vertex's just use the text tool, where ever click on is the vertex. This method is very effective because you can name the effect points in SketchUp making it easier to import. As for making a sphere draw a horizontal circle(be sure to reduce the number of sides through the "entity info" window. Then draw a vertical circle that touches your horizontal circle at two opposite points. Now if you draw a diameter through the middle of the horizontal(this does not touch the edges of the vertical), now delete one half of the circle, now you have a semi-circle use the push pull tool to drag the semi-circle in to a sphere.
If you don't make sense out of my wondering talking just let me know and I'll post some pictures on how to do it.
J_DeRosa15
05-04-2007, 06:49 PM
I get the sphere part but not the vertex part. I would greatly apprechiate it. :)
surfingoz
05-04-2007, 06:57 PM
Ok I will try to explain the vertex in more detail, I wont be able to place pictures as the computer I am on does not have SketchUp.
Look at your main toolbar, follow your toolbar along until you see a button that looks like it is used to label things(its actually called the text tool), now click this. Simply click anywhere on your model(where you click is where the vertex is placed), now you just need to click some where else on the screen for the label to be placed(the position of the label does not effect anything, it is unimportant), once you have placed the label part you can then type a name. This is all you need to do to add a vertex, when you import the model in the importer it will recognize it as a vertex(this is when creating an OVL and then click add model). But you still need to assign the vertex an effect, to do this look to the left(the effects frame) and click the 'A' button this automatically detects the vertex, now you can assign the vertex an effect. The position is already set so do not change that. You have just created an effect point.
J_DeRosa15

Okay...i will try it later. And I'm sure X will have a look at the importer part :D

J_DeRosa15
05-04-2007, 10:30 PM
Okay, I am doing something unexpected. It is a recording studio. It will be two pieces that can simply be placed. All you must do is enclose them. I will make sure they will look good so you will have use for them, and i will also make it just be the surface. In other words, you must add the walls, giving you the chance to possibly theme it. Sound good?...i hope so, because I already started :)

05-06-2007, 07:26 PM
First of all, sorry for the double post.
Today, I am upset (as you could see from my mushroom (avatar.) I am upset because one of my items is giving me trouble.
I am not going to lie to my viewers, but I haven't been working on this as much as I should have, but I am making progress. Currently, I am working on a giant backdrop (which is why I am upset.) See, I wanted to make a giant billboard backdrop, so people can customize it. But that may not happen. After I saw surfingoz's tutorial, I started having trouble with the actual texture.
I did, however, make a model, and if the billboard doesn't work out, I will still have a variety of these with different scenes.
So without furthere ado...
UPDATE
here it is. I just rushed through this. The wood texture isn't the correct demensions yet and the backdrop is not perminate.
http://img456.imageshack.us/img456/4071/backdroptestsv2.png (http://imageshack.us)
I am NOT going to spend a lot of time on the billboard problem. I think it's the demensions of this particular item. I will get more into it later.
SMALL REQUEST POINT
If you have anything you want as a backdrop, I'd be happy to include it. Just send me the picture. Just remember this: anything with items going off the bottom of the picture is useless! SO DON'T SEND ME ThEM! ;)
Animation Desk:
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/3158/animationdeskaw3.png (http://imageshack.us)
This is basically a teaser picture. IT IS NO WhERE NEAR FINIShED! It still has to be textured (textures shown except wood is SketchUp's) and grouped and stuff. :D I plan to include some cabinets, a chair maybe, a computer, etc.
*faces will be reduced*
------------------------------------------------
COMING SOON...
------------------------------------------------
Depending on my communications with X, I will try to provide some in-game shots. I did my best with the gate, and we also imported a wall. I will try to get to him both gates, the other wall, and something else.
I also made a small awning. It will be useful, trust me :p I will show some in-game shots soon.
I will put some pictures of the nearly completed recording studio.
Finally, I am making a park. Pictures from this MOVIE STUDIO park will be used for examples, guidenece, and Icon textures :D
Comments? Requests? Complains? Etc.?
LightGrenades
05-06-2007, 07:40 PM
You should try and learn to import things your self, so you aren't so dependant on someone else to import things for you. It takes some practice, but once you get the hang of it, it is easier. And then, when you make something, you can see what it looks like without waiting too long.
J_DeRosa15
05-06-2007, 07:59 PM
Agreed. Trust me, I am still trying to this day. I can't tell you how many tutorial's I've read and how many suggestion's i've gotton. I read a tutorial with pictures on how to make a simple cube, and it didn't work out!
I do everything correct, that I know. I can breeze through the importer and modeling and texturing, etc. My problem is after the importer is complete. When I click install and open my game, it is not there! :( I think this is the problem: I have a very lot of CS, so a while ago, I move the entire RCT3 folder (with the style/themed) directory to my desktop. Maybe the importer can't find the file. I don't know. But if i try to put it back, it just makes a copy. I would really love assistance, but please PM me because that is not what this thread is about. If you know any really helpful threads that walk you through making an object, please PM it to me.
By the way, and only one person answer this, when you click INSTALL, does it take long or as soon as u click it does it say suscessful?

Have you followed surfingoz's tutorial on billboards? A great texture to use is:
Flip it and map it so only the text is visible and the correct way.

texturing is the problem Does he give you a texture? I think it is the size or shape of the object that is conflicting the texture
rctmaniac
05-08-2007, 05:12 PM
I dont understand you? You texture the texture that I linked you to. You will see the text is upside down and flipped, map it so it is not.
J_DeRosa15
05-08-2007, 05:45 PM
No. When I use SketchUp and Import the texture, the entire texture shows...including the X. I know how to flip it but i DONT know how to stretch a texture out over the side, meaning I dont know how to make it so that only the actual logo part (not the X) shows

Umm, not really. I will certainly, however, work hard. I do want this set to be released soon. I don't think I will have some objects like the camera, unless you want to use it only once :( But I have almost all of the objects I've created imported
Oh, and I got importing down. I just can't get on RCT3, so I hired a tester. But my objects are now flipped 90 degrees. :|

J_DeRosa-I managed to map the billboard texture:
http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/7793/billboardinsuve8.th.jpg (http://img511.imageshack.us/my.php?image=billboardinsuve8.jpg)
Here are the steps:
1) File->Import
2) Find the texture. Make sure 'Use as Texture' is ticked. The option is above the OK button
3) Right Click, and hover your mouse over the 'Texture' text in the menu
4) Flip->Up/Down.
5) Then click on 'Postion' (Again under the texture text in the menu)
6) You will see lots of the texture come up in a tiled format. Just drag until the letters 'This is aligned for RCT3' fill up the face you are texturing.
7) If you can still see the part of the cross, do the following:
-->Click on 'Postion'
-->In the bottom right will be a blue square.
-->Click and drag that, you will see your texture changing shape, just drag until it is the same size as the box.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!
If not, email me the object if you like. Just PM if you need me to help.

It certainly did! Took me 10 minutes to locate the blue box, though!
NEWS
I have imported some objects and they have been tested. Well, first, they were flipped, but I fixed that problem. Next, the recolorable textures were too light, so I have to change the textures. And third, some parts of my objects are invisible. Do walls have to be double sided? :(

Either double side them or find how to flip faces in sketchup... cause whats happening is the 'visible' side of the wall is pointing at the inside, not the outside of the model.
Probobly easiest to just go with DS faces though.

does the work on this set continue ?
Yes...althouth, and unfortunatetly, it continues slowly. But, now that I got RCT3 back, it is easier to test.

okay , that sounds interesting... Thanks for the good news anyway JD .Nice set are you gonna release a beta or the full pack in one portion?
J_DeRosa15

If you want a beta, I'd be happy. All I don't know how to do is the Icon Textures...but I am learning.
Don't know why you would want a beta pack though, since there are not a lot of pieces.

(you know, the "O..", but if you make it, don't call it "Os..", because the name is copyrighted)
its copyrighted?:bulb: people must be gettin sued left and right....what would it be called?
Nice entrance! may the gate should have collision detection so the peeps dont walk in on the park? just a suggestion.

okay J , good luck with the pack and the icon textures. This is the best hollywood studio pack for now ! Could you also include such old cars like those in the movie theme parks , MGM Studios , Walt Disney Studios , Universal... cars or even helicopters to make some stunt shows or limo's ... this are only suggestions

Well, I would, but first my modeling skills aren't that advanced yet. Second, and excluding the helicopterss, i think Dkimber already made a set with old fashioned cars

that looks really cool, but (sorry for the late comment) i think that the entrance to the park could have a little more realistic look to it you know? mabey you could add a sign? that way, we would be able to type what we want, or, you could just add a billboard on the top? but, it all looks great! keep it up!

Not sure if you found a texture yet, but heres the one from Sketch Up:

yeah i know , i have that set , but theres no set i think that includes planes , or things that may be needed along with a stuntshow that is custom-made (speld it right?) and also there are limo's in studio themed parks sometimes like walt disney studios for the 'movie stars'.
thanks and good luck with the set , comes along nicely:up:
